It also just made literally no sense that Cena kept yammering on about how he had no path to Wrestlemania like he couldn't find someone to punch in the face and get a match if he really wanted it. They never provided any sort of narrative reason why he was somehow without a match or put any genuine obstacles in his way, just had him chase assorted contendership opportunities and then go "Welp if I don't get these then I'm really boned ain't I". It was an absolute trash storyline, where some upstart heel trying to make himself famous and playing into taunting Taker into coming out would have been way more satisfying and logical. Would've rathered they not run the match at all and leave it as one of history's biggest What Ifs than run it that poorly. But damn yeah even Taker in that program didn't get someone young and new to work with, he got John Cena in a spot that made no sense for him. This is how unwilling they are to let anyone below top star level work with these part-timers. The worst thing about that segment was the very next segment was Braun Strowman doing a promo to camera going "I don't have a path to WrestleMania". F***er, John F***ing Cena was just in the ring saying "HEY, WHO WANTS TO FACE ME AT WRESTLEMANIA?!" and NOBODY SHOWED UP EVEN THOUGH THE DUDE DOING THE CHALLENGE WAS JOHN F***ING CENA! I'm sorry, I do go on about it at this time every year but everything about that whole thing was moronic, made little sense and somehow devalued John F***ing Cena because nobody wanted to face him. Why?! How?! I do remember htem trying to retcon that way later, like a week before Mania later with a throw away... "I Don't want any random match I want a headline match" which... at that point it just made Cena look like a whiny beggar >_>

It's kind of a good indicator of how far the quality of basic aspects of storytelling have fallen in that period. They could have run almost the exact same story, and at least it might have had some substance behind it.

Bill Goldberg can still present himself as a badass. For that reason, I understand WWE wanting to use him to get some of those who are nostalgic to care. But Bill Goldberg should arrive, kill somebody and leave. Honestly, Sami Zayn might be a great WrestleMania program for Goldberg because he can be a smarmy little prick, get killed, and still have his heat the next week. He just shouldn't be wrestling for belts anymore. I heard Goldberg's contract states he gets as many world title shots as his original WCW win streak. 173-0 folks.

Expected, pointless but expected. When the Saudi money says jump, the company says "how high". I would like Goldberg to, well, I'd like Goldberg not to bother at all by this point but if he did then to work with some different talent that need the rub. But Bill's really not going to roll with that ever. It makes me wonder, who's the bigger mark for themselves Goldberg, or Shane? Goldberg was willing to put Lesnar over!

Guess WWE want to add "kicked out of the Jackhammer" to the list of Romans achivements, he would be the 4th dude to do it. The problems with that are Goldberg with his bum shoulder probably isn't going to make the move impressive or safe, and it won't look half as impressive as when Beastie Boy kicked out of the move at WM33.
