Paraeducator. Basically an all-around assistant for the teacher. Currently in high school level special education after spending 12 years in a Conduct Disorder classroom. I could not imagine working in any other field after all these years because of my very generous paid break and vacation schedule every year. Lmao I looked this up actually, the school by me is hiring for it.....they want 2 years of college, a certificate and it pays...13.79. Sir how do you survive? Ooof. My district does me much much better than 13.79.

I'm a nurse, currently working in a Covid unit. Probably not everyone's dream job.

I almost made as much as my sister who was an actual credentialed teacher out in Texas. Well, not quite almost, but like only 1/3rd less which seems wild to me. Cali’s pretty good to educators. I do well enough and my other sister who’s worked in Arizona says it’s great here.

Anyway, don’t go to law school. Also an attorney. I work for a medium-sized firm doing primarily first-party insurance defense. Coverage opinion, bad faith actions, breach of contract, cases of that nature. I can at least say that I've been to trial a few times, but I fully echo the above sentiment.

I help run and operate a wine and spirits distribution warehouse out here in the California desert (right outside of Palm Springs)....backbreaking (due to all the lifting), but it is stress-free, pays really well, and the schedule allows me to drop my kids off at school and pick them up afterwards, which is helpful because my wife is the bread-winner (district attorney), and works long hours and travels (thru the county) for trials.
I've been here for almost ten years, and this is the most that I've ever enjoyed working (plus the side perks are nothing to laugh at)

Here in the midwest, target employees and teachers have similar pay rates.

I'm a Dog Groomer. I too am almost 40. After many years of working odd jobs to get by I was awarded the opportunity to take some time and focus on me and my happiness. I was given the chance to work as a bather in a dog grooming salon and I loved it. Fast forward and this past summer I went to dog grooming school. I applied for a job to be an assistant to a groomer, I really like animals so I thought I'd at least be happy doing it for that reason.

Being an assistant can be a lot of fun.

I am also a Claims Adjuster for an insurance company. Being doing it for 6 months and I really enjoy it. The fact that you are responsible for scheduling your appointments and pretty much left alone to do your thing is awesome for me. Plus, I’ve got a ton of support from my team and the company overall. Paid training and good benefits too.
Before this worked in a grocery store, most of the time working as a produce manager. Tough job but enjoyed it. Left because the company I worked for stopped supporting me and made me and my department an afterthought. Doesn’t hurt that I’m now making $8 more an hour compared to my last job.

I've been offered a few new jobs now.
I'm struggling that f***in Walmart offered me almost 20 an hour so that'll pay my bills without an issue while the Veterinarian assistant job I'd like to do and think I'd get a lot out of is offering me 12 an hour...I just don't think that's enough money even though I like the job.

I am a teacher, which means I take a lot of personal development classes and occasionally give the kids a worksheet or two.

Morning shift I have an ebay business. I've been doing that since January 2009, it's home based and seems small on the surface but I work harder in those few hours than my afternoon job. I work at Home Depot, have been there 9 years this April. It's the longest job I ever had, a few times were rocky but for the most part the management is pretty caring and staff are like family. The customers are overall pretty friendly. An 8 hour shift goes by super quickly.
My biggest joy is being a "new associate coach" as I will always remember the struggle when I was new and one day I hope to have a major coaching/mentorship program in place, company wide. We just got a new store manager and it's always nerve wracking when that happens but in the month I've known her she's been like a beacon of encouragement and positivity and has been nudging me to take on a leadership position which, in my 9 years, no other person has ever suggested.
