Sabu never spoke or talk but after a botch in his match with Benoit where he landed on his head Heyman told him he had to talk if the Doctors were going to save his life

The Iron Sheik took 3 times the recommended daily dose of iron every single day just to keep up kayfabe. Hulk Hogan had his mother legally adopt all fans just so could keep saying "Brother"

Nikita Koloff actually learned to speak Russian, and he spoke in an accent whenever he was in public. Nikita also changed his name from Scott Simpson to Nikita S. Koloff and would kayfabe even around the boys. This to a flight where Arn Anderson had enough and called him out, saying, "Hey G-Cue ball, it's just the boys now. We know you're Scott Simpson from Minnesota, you can drop the accent."

Sid Waddell did an interview with British wrestling legend Mick McManus around his 90th birthday (sadly both men died within 5 years of this) and McManus still kept kayfabe through the entire interview.

Reminds me of Lance Storm saying it insulted him and some others when Great Sasuke wore his mask in the locker room, even in the showers, since it made it come across like Sasuke thought they were all a bunch of marks.

A few bigger examples I remember of this
David Schultz slapping a reporter for asking if wrestling was fake
Ultimate Warrior being in character for talk shot interviews, showing up in full gear, sometimes tearing the set apart looking for Hulk Hogan
Nick Gage not wanting to end the Tournament of Death final vs Thumbtack Jack after light tubes cut into him so bad he started bleeding out because he thought it would make his gimmick look weak. Promoters had to basically fight to keep him from going back out there. He cut an in character promo as he laid on a table. He proceeded to die for seven minutes as he was lifelighted to a hospital pretty soon afterwards.

I feel like a few shoot interviews have gone very badly from older wrestlers refusing to break kayfabe.

I can never remember the specifics, but wasn't there a guy who broke his back in a plane crash and then wrestled another match so people wouldn't know he was traveling with a heel? It wasn't Ric Flair, I think it was a masked wrestler.

On that note, Great Sasuke didn't unmask while serving as a legislator

Arn Anderson talked in kayfabe throughout that entire 4 Horsemen DVD that WWE released in 2007. I've only seen clips of it but it seems he did the same in that RF shoot he did in the late 90's or early 2000's. Even if you listen to Arn's podcast he doesn't go into very much detail about anything. Most answers are very vague and very brief.

Keeping kayfabe didn't work for Dave Schultz

I also seem to remember a story about the guy who worked as Vladimir Koloff introducing himself to someone (I want to say Bobby Fulton of the Fantastics) as "Vladimir Koloff, Ivan's nephew."
Bobby (or whoever) called him a stupid son of a bitch and walked away from him.

I feel like a few shoot interviews have gone very badly from older wrestlers refusing to break kayfabe. Arn was always terrible for this. It's one thing when a super out there character is keeping the act going, or during your career, but long afterwards when you had a pretty basic character, it doesn't really work... ironically.

I remember WWF booked Bret and Owen Hart on seperate flights to keep the illusion of their feud going.
Also, the most famous one had to be WCW booker Kevin Sullivan having his then wife Nancy go everywhere with his then on-screen rival Chris Benoit to make fans think they were really dating. This also included having them booked in the same hotel room. It's been half-joked that he booked his own divorce, sure this will haunt him for the rest of his life, especially with what we know now.
Also, didn't a group of faces and heels bump into each other at a hotel at the town they were staying at and then they ended up "fighting" each other and no one paid attention/cared? I could've sworn I read that somewhere.

Didn't Dusty Rhodes keep kayfabe about his broken leg even to the point of wearing the cast when he was at home?
Sgt. Slaughter kayfabes so hard about his fake military background that it got the actual Marines irritated at him, since he never actually served in the military.

Regarding the crash, they probably could have gotten away with just saying the plane crashed due to the heels and babyfaces fighting in mid air That would have been better than making that one poor fella wrestler after that

I remember WWF booked Bret and Owen Hart on seperate flights to keep the illusion of their feud going. . They drove together to the Royal Rumble in 1994. On the way home, Owen had to lie on the floor of the backseat with a bunch of coats and Bret’s sons on top of him to hide him from the fans. That’s more cute than extreme though.

My understanding is that what Slaughter does technically isn't stolen valor since he never acts like he, Robert Remus, is a veteran, just the character. I also don't think he's tried to cash in on benefits or any of the sort of fraud. That doesn't make it not in poor taste, granted, and he certainly rides the line sometimes.
