Bill Watts is a piece of garbage for getting mad at Rick Steiner for doing that. I know that Bill is old school and times were different back then but come on. What was Rick supposed to do?

Plus, were those people Rick saved wrestling fans who knew who he was? Even if they were, they(Mid South Wrestling) could've kayfabed that by turning him face saying he had a change of heart, simple as that.

Great O-Khan telling the girl he saved when she asked for his name that he was "Great O-Khan from New Japan Pro Wrestling", and keeping kayfabe sorta in his statement on being commended by the police, while not extra exactly, is certainly a bit weird. I do kind of get the impression he's a bit shy and would prefer to maintain a boundary.

Dusty Rhodes in order to keep up his son of a plumber gimmick made his dad become a licensed and bonded plumber.

Even if they were, they(Mid South Wrestling) could've kayfabed that by turning him face saying he had a change of heart, simple as that. Exactly. How, as a promoter, did he NOT see that as a way to get good publicity for the company? It's easy. I know Rick isn't a master on the mic, but he could pull something like this off, I think. Rick Steinar: "You know, I've done a lot of bad things here. I've beat up plenty of guys, and I never even gave it a second thought. But when I witnessed that accident, something triggered in me that I needed to save those people. And once I got them out of the car, and they knew they were going to be OK, they thanks and gratitude they gave me...it made me feel...good. It felt good. I liked that feeling. So from that moment, I decided I no longer wanted to be this big bad bully I've been for my entire career. I want to be a role model. I want to help people. I want to show them that being a nice guy isn't a sign of weakness. I know it's going to take a while to convice the boys in the back, and all of you, but I promise you, you're going to see a new Rick Steinar from here on out." There you go. Big, mean Rick Steinar is now a hot babyface.

Hell there's a kayfabe difference between a beat down, injurying someone, and trying to kill them so saving someone's life isn't outside a heel move because they can have emotions.

Nikita Koloff actually learned to speak Russian, and he spoke in an accent whenever he was in public. Really? I only remember him saying like one word in Russian during his promos and his accent just sounded like a guy who was always choking on Pringles.

Honestly, some of it is just Watts being an asshole, but I also get the feeling he was very neurotic and wanted things a very particular way in order to succeed, and he hated deviating from that. He was definitely not adaptable, so even if this was something he could have easily milked for money, it'd mean taking a fork in the road, and he didn't want to do that unless he absolutely had to.

Didn't Dusty Rhodes keep kayfabe about his broken leg even to the point of wearing the cast when he was at home? Sgt. Slaughter kayfabes so hard about his fake military background that it got the actual Marines irritated at him, since he never actually served in the military. hey now Sarge was a certified member of the GI Joe team. can't get much more military than that. GO JOE!

I think I read someone that during Saturn's moppy gimmick, he was carrying that mop around everywhere he went, even confusing the other wrestlers asking if he was for real?

I believe Sandman in ECW did an angle where someone put a cigarette out in his eye and he didn’t leave his house (or apartment, whatever) nor answer the door for like 3 months to sell it before he came back.
This one isn’t exactly keeping kayfabe but it’s one of my favorite stories so I’m going to put it here anyway:
Dick Slater, Wahoo McDaniels and another wrestler or two (I wanna say maybe Tommy Rich and/or Andre the Giant) were somewhere (I think Slater says in or around Atlanta but other tellings put it in Tampa, where Slater lived) were out at a bar and got into it with one of the locals. So they go out in the parking lot to settle it.
Guy pulls a knife IIRC and Wahoo goes to his car and gets a gun. So Wahoo begins pistol-whipping the guy and the pistol goes off. Bullet hits Slater and goes through his leg (I think thigh area) — fortunately it was through and through with only soft tissue damage.
So of course they realize with a gunshot the cops are going to be coming. Slater tells Wahoo to go put the gun back in the car. When the police get there, Slater is on the ground bleeding. They ask him who shot him and Dick tells them it was a sniper, haha.
(Slater ended up going to Japan for a tour like three weeks later. In Ric Flair’s book he has a section or passage on who the real tough guys in wrestling were and he mentions Slater as the toughest or one of them.)

Didn't the original Sheik, when he WAS out of character, only appear off camera and claim to be the Sheik's agent?

Didn't the original Sheik, when he WAS out of character, only appear off camera and claim to be the Sheik's agent? He was one of the guests at the early John Arrezzi conventions. He was in full gimmick with his wife. His wife would ask the name, write it on the photo herself then Sheik would sign it (not sure if in English). Then when it was time for a photo op he'd slam his sword on the table and stand up with the fan.

Not even going to lie the thought of keeping kayfabe in perpetuity sounds exhausting

So that's where they got the template for Pa Kent in 'Man of Steel' from.
