Good, means he's not going to crop up anywhere I watch regularly any time soon.

hmm so I guess he didn't sign his last wrestling contract last time <_< If I had a dollar for every time a wrestler said they were a year or two away from retirement only to end up signing a new contract when the times come... I remember a WCW magazine interview with Scott Steiner around 1998-99. He said he would retire in a couple years before he was 40 and didn't want to be an old guy going out there past his prime embarrassing himself. He completely buried Hogan and Flair and said something like "If I'm still wrestling in 5-10 years someone please shoot me in the head and put me out my misery." And well, he was over 40 when he had that WWE run with those embarrassing matches with HHH/Test and even as of a couple years ago he was still wrestling at almost 60.

I don't know what AJ did to make Vince fall in love with the guy but he is easily the most 'made' signing WWE's had in the past ten years. It's a no-brainer to stick with WWE for a truck full of money He’s arguably the most fundamentally sound wrestler the company’s had in years and years. Vince loves those workhorse types.

So read that it is apparently well over 3mil a year and travel accomidations. So all in all not bad get the bag while he winds down his career and probably wanting a trainer role. It’ll be interesting to see where some of the other veterans end up on the salary scale. Drew, Miz and New Day are all probably good to get a bump on their next contracts, while Dolph and Sheamus probably stay at their current rate. I can also see the women looking to get bumped up, especially if the supposed numbers they’re currently getting are accurate, like Charlotte, Asuka and Bayley making under $1 million a year

Someone like Charlotte though yea they are gonna look to bump her up in pay (probably paying her the highest of any female in the company ever). Bayley seems like someone that would easily jump to AEW regardless of WWE trotting out a gold mine to keep her just because she wants to challenge herself in a new fresh enviroment and face new women.

I’m guessing $3 million per year, plus travel expenses, was a good incentive to change his mind.

I thought he already did. But yeah, makes too much sense. He's probably the quickest built WWE legend in the company's lifetime with all the achievements and likely had a job for life when he carried Shane's son to likely the best match of his career. AJ wrestled Declan McMahon??!! You remember, COVID really ravaged the roster in 2020. (I didn’t even realize this until now so thanks haha)

Guys earned it. Even if his WWE career has peaked he's still one of the best of his generation and can still pull out a great match with anyone when needed. Theyd be foolish to let him slip through.

Three mil a year? Does that sound like a lot or am I just not up on what these guys make anymore?

As far as wrestling goes yea it is up there especially depending on how long he signed for , 3yrs nets him into the 10mil range. But in the larger scope of sports and just entertainment in general it is extremely small potatoes...there are bench guys in the major sports leagues who rarely ever get to play who make more than that.

AJ has no reason to leave this company. They've always done him well even in the beginning when he had the Jericho team up and feud.

AJ Styles is a worker whose character is based solely on his in-ring stuff - the kind of worker who will do what's asked of him. He's also been a big name since the late 1990s who will absolutely anchor down any other promotion if he were to jump.
For all Vince's proclivities towards the bigger guys, he knows enough to keep his workhorses regardless of size or to die trying. If he can't or won't, he won't have much of a company left in five years. All he'll have are his recruits doing everything his way and no other.

Yeah I mean he's maybe the best Indie Talent outside of Danielson or Punk to come into the company and recieve legendary status and damn near a perfect run. I would imagine he has no reason to leave
Just... don't do any more shit with Omos I guess, let him have his Mania match with Edge cause that'd steal the show.

I mean Air Raid didn't debut in WCW until 2001... and they were a jobber team. he was a big name in the 2000s.

Regardless of the company, AJ having made it, having an exemplary career and ending up in the biggest wrestling company and consistently payed and handled alright brings my heart a lot of joy. AJ absolutely deserves it. I don't have anything to add I just want to reiterate this...I have used the styles surname since early TNA and am thrilled to see how his time in the E has played out.

Also to add...WWE lost a bunch of experienced people to free agency and, as I said when Owens signed, you need to sign and keep people to give the perception (to shareholders and networks mostly) that you're not just letting anyone slip away considering the rumored reaction from FOX of Adam Cole's contract going and the like. So keeping people like Owens, Zayn and AJ, that's three vets that'll help keep star power on your show and help get the next generation ready for the main roster. I wonder if the networks and/or shareholder reactions are pushing them to go after Cody? Again, we've seen nothing concrete to suggest that he's signed.

I'd say they paid attention to how well Go Big Show did and would be open to having that guy be a part of WWE as a genuine name but then networks are funny in who they like and WWE is funny about listening to them (the whole story about FOX wanting them to have Punk being a wrestler and them paying for it since he was technically still on a FOX contract at the time being an example).

The fact AJ Styles went overnight from that indy guy WWE will never sign obviously to one of the most protected WWE Champions this century will never cease to surprise me. It was the biggest wow at someone going from Never WWE to Obviously Fit like a Glove since the time "blacklisted" Rob Van Dam showed up on RAW in 2001 like a fait accompli!
