As much as I would have loved to see if AJ could tear it up somewhere else, I think WWE is the best place for him. He's a steady hand that is always going to have at least a good match, and can probably still go and get a WWE MOTY candidate. WWE has treated AJ better than anyone could have ever expected, too. I don't think he has any reason to leave.

Up until very recently $1 million per year as a downside guarantee was still the pinnacle. If the reports of WWE switching from downside guarantees to straight guarantees are true then $3 million makes sense.
Both types of contracts have their pros and cons. On the one hand the downside guarantees meant that if you really caught on fire with the fans you could pull in 8-figures by year end (JR revealed that Austin made $13 million one year when all was said and done.) Now you're just getting the same weekly check regardless of what you did.
But with the downside it meant that if you hit your downside early in the year and then got hurt then you weren't getting paid until you came back.

I don't know what AJ did to make Vince fall in love with the guy but he is easily the most 'made' signing WWE's had in the past ten years. It's a no-brainer to stick with WWE for a truck full of money I think AJ talked about it on the interview he had with Stone Cold which was still within his first 6 months of the company From what I remember he basically said Vince loves the "dog in him". If I remember correctly this was basically HHH doing all the ground work to get him there and when Vince saw him and saw how he carried himself and worked and they clicked My assumption was he would have a good WWE run and win the title at some point but I never thought he would have a legendary WWE run.

Gutted I won't get to see him wrestle Adam Cole or Sammy Guevara, but this seems like a no-brainer decision tbh.

For a wrestler that didn't make it the WWE roster until his late thirties, he's always felt like a WWE lifer and I really can't blame him for staying as for the most part he always seems to be protected, able to float back and forth between the upper midcard and main event with every suffering from being demoted from the main event picture.
To be honest, he's filled the role that Chris Jericho left rather well and still can go at a high-level in the ring. It's genuinely a good move on his part, and the WWE's as well.

I just hope they do something different with him over the next few years. He's great in the ring but he's settled back into his boring face persona. Have him try something else. He's also been losing a lot lately so hopefully he started getting protected a bit.

The deal is "well over 3M a year." Raking in that cash money. That could easily turn into a $175,000 90 day contract knowing the way this company has wielded the axe over it's talent recently.

Is 3 mil a year a lot though for someone AJ’s caliber? I know wwe isn’t as big as say the nba, but I feel like wwe lowballs their guys and UFC is even worse

I'd say he's worth it, especially since his merch seemingly sells well. They do give him a lot of it.

There was a time where I thought it was a shame he spent so much time in Tna he wouldn’t have time for a long run in wwe. It’s been six years already this has gotta be at least 3 more. 9 years with a good push and multiple world title reigns, is a pretty good wwe run.

If he's taking on Edge at 'mania, then he's probably going to lose that match in order to heat Edge up for another crack at Roman.

I don't say this about many people signing with WWE, but I think he would be an idiot not to. They gave him the world on a stick from day one.

Honestly for all the talk of NXT and developing new stars I think this is how WWE should work.
Make your name elsewhere, perfect your act, then go to WWE at your peak to get the big money and ride that train for as long as your body/mind allows.

I mean, a good 75% of the people during the 80s were people who did just that and took advantage of what territory those people came from so, like, it makes sense and has worked.

I mean that’s how a lot of the 2010s have been no? Mox, Rollins, Bryan, Punk, Samoa Joe, Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn and AJ have all made it in the Indy’s/TNA before riding WWE

Like, some have been like how they were in the indies but there was still an aspect of them being developed more for WWE and still having faster-paced matches rather than being told "work slower since you don't have to beat the tar out of yourselves to small crowds anymore and people know who you are".

That was HHH's direction not just for his NXT but seemingly how the rest of the WWE would have been with him in power. Then they threw all that out and fired majority of those folk along with the bath water.
