It's why I'm thrilled Okada has stayed in Japan

What is booked poorly? Asuka, Shinsuke and Io should not be on the list. They have some iffy stretches but Asuka and Io specifically carried a whole brand while Shinsuke run has been nothing to sneeze at Shinsuke lost to f***ing Jinder Mahal after that promo.
That, and all the other times he choked, puts him on the list.

I mean they gave one of their few Japanese male wrestlers a gimmick where he had a gang of ninja. NINJAS. In 2022. That says it all really.

Still blows my mind that they were seriously trying to build an NXT Japan brand off of NOAH/AJPW/whatever down nane fed they could find that they could buy. I almost wish I could have seen it happen just to see every racist gimmick they could think of happening on Japanese soil to a mortified crowd.

I remember the plan was to buy Stardom so it could serve as the front for NXT Japan and the owner refused when they wouldn't give any details about what the plan was for the promotion or what they would do with the roster and offered to put them in the Hall of Fame if they sold it to them.

I am finding it increasingly hilarious that WWE somehow believes that offering a spot in their meaningless HOF carries any weight...they did it here and recently with Jeff. I imagine Vince offers a HOF spot to get out of everyday traffic tickets.

I've always been curious though. Based on their work over in Japan, should guys like TAKA and KENTA been booked as a bigger deal here in WWE? Foley said that on talent alone Taka should've been the World Champ I mean, a lot of this is usually based around the idea of "They got over, but for whatever reason they didn't go with it either as hard as they could have or they didn't go with it at all". Where do you fit Michinoku in the world title scene in the time they were literally going with some of the hottest hands the entire business had ever seen?

Yeah, TAKA in the attitude era was still pretty damn over but... like... who would you push him over from teh same time frame?

One Japanese star I thought would've been great in WWE is Takeshi Morishma. Put him with a manager and let him wreck shit up and boom, there's your new Vader. They gave him a tryout match against Haas years ago where he was the babyface. He wasn't bad as that but I guess they thought his size wasn't what they were looking for.

Vince took one look at him having not even bothered to look up photos or footage of him from before and said he was too fat

What's so f***ed up is how often Japanese talent are presented as weird goblin like people who can barely speak. Then they get every asian stereotype plastered on top of it. Tozawa's a straight up ninja. Last I saw, Asuka was like some insane screeching kabuki freak, or something.
Like, it's straight up f***ed how some wrestling fans hold WWE to such a lower standard than the competition when it comes to this garbage.

The language barrier is the issue, and it's sad because the WWE has brought in some fantastic Japanese talent over the years. But it's hard to understand what they're saying at times. And I know that he's not Japanese, but it was the same whenever they decided to let Great Khali talk.

So at least for the six woman tag match from RAW tonight, Asuka was a trending topic on Twitter, with users really upset that creative can't find anything for her.

To be fair, Kenta was being booked VERY well in NXT, but the multiple injuries kept him sidelined and it was a completely different environment when he came out.
He should have been a bigger deal in the Cruiserweight division. Not some schlub who came in and kept dropping the ball. That title should have been thrown on him immediately, and he should have been built up as a reason to tune in.

Oh yeah this slipped my mind as well. In KAIRI's most recent post WWE interview, she talked about when she was a heel with Asuka. And she alluded to the fact that management was not too happy that they were still getting cheered over women like Charlotte and Becky at the time.
She mentioned during a house show, they were supposed to go out there and crash the RAW Women's Championship match going on. And instead of booing the Kabuki Warriors, they got cheered.

Hey, at least they stopped giving all Japanese talent the Orient Express "chopsticks" entrance theme. So that's a small step in the right direction.

*🧮 BORING STATS WARNING 🧮* Relevant to this conversation, I have the statistics for longest losing streaks during the timeframe of my points rankings (2004-now)... Three of the Top 10 in this statistic are Japanese cruiserweights, including one that is a currently active streak: So basically, if you're a little bigger like Nakamura (longest losing streak of 7), or a woman like Asuka or Kairi Sane (both with a longest losing streak of 4), it's still not perfect or even good at times, but you won't be made out to be utterly ineffective to the point of uselessness.
