Rick Rude in DX with a bunch of juvenile shitheads. Not to mention he, at 38 years of age (which was considered old at the time for a wrestler), was in a group that was all about being young, rebellious and rubbing their youth into peoples faces.

I'm watching some early 99 RAWs and you can take your pick of members from the Corporation. You've got the core of Vince, Shane, Brisco, Patterson and Big Boss Man. With The Rock as the WWF champ and the jewel in the crown. But then you've got Kane, Big Show, Chyna, Ken Shamrock and Test. Just visually, it's such a weird and confusing array of characters. Actually, I think the original Corporation was fine and nearly everyone made sense. Of course, Vince, Shane, The Stooges and Bossman were obvious choices, with Bossman as head of security. Kane was only in the group because his boss and his father made an arrangement that he would go back to the insane asylum if he didn't do what they said. And even then, he had his share of moments where he clearly rebelled. Big Show was supposed to be Vince's big ace in the hole signing from WCW that would deal with Austin once and for all. Chyna joining, I admit, was kind of stupid, but it made sense down the line when Triple H joined as well. And Test, remember, was originally brought up to TV as a roadie/bouncer for Motley Crue, so him being brought in to serve as a second enforcer made total sense. That leaves The Rock and Shamrock. Neither really made sense to me, since The Rock easily could've won the title on his own and didn't need the Corporation backing him up. And Shamrock really didn't fit the bill of being a jacked-up thug. BUT... if Shamrock had been the Corporate Champion instead, I think it would've worked much better. Dude was aces in the ring and had a good thing going with his tendency to "snap" when pushed. But he wasn't a great talker and not the most charismatic guy on the roster. But he had the right look and enough natural charm that you could almost picture him as the guy the WWF PR machine would've had a field day with. Make him Vince's golden boy who just barely escapes with his title in the face of challengers like Austin, Rock and Foley, and you have a recipe for success.

That's a good one. It's no surprise that when he defected to WCW, instead of taking a step back, the group actually got better.

Remember the League of Nations? A couple of weeks of Sheamus, Barrett, and Rusev together as this trio of Euro brawlers, then Alberto del Rio joins them for no reason at all and all four of them look about as thrilled that he's there as we all do anytime Alberto del Rio shows up anywhere. Worst part was that I loved Sheamus, Rusev, and Barrett as a trio. The chemistry was awesome. And then as Triple H’a muscle for a feud with The Shield wrote itself.

Ezekiel Jackson as part of The Corre. I understood that the Corre was supposed he former Nexus members banding together, but Ezekiel Jackson was added for no reason. He was a face not long before and was over, but I suppose he had nothing going on and the creative team felt that The Corre needed muscle in the group and thought Ezekiel was perfect.
Now that I think about it, while this isn't what the thread is about, but when CM Punk took over leadership of Nexus, it felt different than what it was before. It didn't help that only one member (David Otunga) had stayed a part of the group the entire time while the group had changed dramatically from how it was when it started.

No one is going to accuse CHAOS of having a consistent theme, but Hideo Saito really did not fit with the group. Even if they didn't job him out to where the group fired him, having him become Captain New Japan, he would have likely been ejected anyway for just being a terrible fit. Of course, him later joining Bullet Club as the original Bone Soldier wasn't a good fit, either, even if the mask was neat. Kenny Omega dubbing him an "intergalactic disaster" sums it up nicely. When Tama Tonga casually mentioned that the idea of turning Captain New Japan heel and making him into the Bone Soldier was Kenny's idea, that was the moment I thought "keep him as far away from any kind of creative as possible."

Rick Rude in DX with a bunch of juvenile shitheads. I was just thinking it's so odd that Rude and Hornswoggle are linked in both being DX alumni. Although I did really like Rude's brief role in that original incarnation.

I guess it depends on if it was always meant to be totally laughable, like I don't think they were exactly trying to set the guy up for success there.

Honestly I thought he was fine, he reminded me of a hired gun for the jackass heels to hide behind.
