I don't think Britt Baker is very good, certainly doesn't justify her push and I find her whole schtick cringey. Her title reign became very painful to watch for me about halfway through. I never thought for a second any of her challengers were serious threats, and Britt burying them on the mic in one-sided promo battles didn't help matters.... I think that's why I really liked the Riho feud. Riho embarrassed her repeatedly, so Britt had to actually work at it for a change. A lot of her feuds, the challenger really didn't get anything over on her in the build, so this was nice.

Sammy Guevara. I liked him a lot until his ladder match with Cody. Dude does not know psychology.

There's a huge amount to like about Mox, but his promos are about 10% as cool or edgy as he thinks they are.

I feel like there's a lot of potential with Sammy but he tends to kind of fall back on lazy outs; he basically doesn't sell because he can just take crazy bumps one after the other instead, and he hasn't bothered to actually develop anything resembling an interesting character because he can always fall back on that stupid sign gimmick that could be just as effectively done by anybody who owns a marker. There's definitely talent there both in the ring and on the mic but he isn't using it.

Long entrance, dominates a corner of the AEW universe with self-indulgent storylines, everyone has to put him over, including those who have momentum of their own that he halts... Malakai Black's pretty guilty of Cody sins, if I am being totally honest. I like him, but he gets a pass for a lot of irritating slog. Hart got misted how many months ago? Is that going anywhere? Yeah, I like Malakai's ring work for the most part... but I'm not really big on vague and creepy for vague and creepy reasons... which a lot of his storylines have been. I feel like every "dark" wrestling character in the past 30 years has basically been riffing out of the Jake Roberts (and to a lesser extent, Raven) playbook. Yeah, Jake could get metaphorical and poetic, but he never spoke in circles and was never TOO vague. Maybe it's where English isn't Black's native language? Anyway... my pick is Britt. Her ring work HAS gotten better, I have to give her that. But she still doesn't move with any degree of urgency or grace and while she knows HOW to be a heel, I honestly think Tony refuses to book her as such (despite playing the role of one in the story) because a large enough segment of the crowd pops for her regardless.

Even though I enjoy his matches/segments, I'm gonna say Mox. While dude is in an interesting angle now with Danielson/Regal, he seems stale.
Prior to his stint in rehab, I was looking forward to the potential heel turn he was heading towards.

Sammy - I only started watching AEW just over a year ago and I just don’t like the dude. Don’t like his attitude or the stuff they have him do. He so bland and generic. He’s the one where I’ll make a drink or get a snack when he’s on.

This kind of sums up part of why I dislike Britt Baker. She's supposed to be a heel, yeah? But every entrance and promo, she has to do the thing. Has to get her shit in, and in a way that the crowd is supposed to chant along. That's not supposed to be a thing. Same goes for Adam Cole's entrance. Some alleged heels these days, it's like they're scared to actually be outright hated. Eddie Kingston, is one who is kinda lost on me. In the context of wrestling shows, he's a perfectly cromulent worker. But in interviews he seems a tad whiny to me, in the way people THINK CM Punk is. Like every quote I see from him is him bitching about someone who might have slighted him years ago. I may be wrong but that's how it looks to me.

He's not really a top guy right now but people backstage clearly want him to be, Daniel Garcia. I just don't see anything special in him.

For me its Britt Baker who comes off a bit one note as a heel. MJF is way better and nuanced as a character but I wonder if its the bookings shortcoming with the women roster

For me it is Mox. Fine wrestler and performer no doubt, but I can never get into him as much as a large part of the fanbase does. I'm just gonna say it... Ambrose>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Mox.

He's not really a top guy right now but people backstage clearly want him to be, Daniel Garcia. I just don't see anything special in him. He has a lot of the fundamentals down well for someone as young as he is. He's also dull as dishwater as a character. Hopefully Jericho rubs off on him.

In Malaki’s defense, he isn’t a supernatural character. He just has a spooky entrance and then he wrestles. I can see why some would find the presentation to be a bit corny though. But then again I’m a massive fan of old school Taker and pre-House of Torture EVIL, so…

On the Lucha Bros subject, I get Fenix, I don't get Penta. Maybe it's just because I've never had any interest in LU but any other capacities I've seen him he seems like a pretty good but largely unremarkable wrestler who's heavily carried by a cool look and his mutant brother.

I didn't follow the early days of NXT. One Saturday night I decided to check out a Takeover PPV (Takeover Brooklyn III) and the moment Aleister Black's music hit and he began making his entrance I immediately became a fan. Not just a fan, but I was a total mark for the guy. As a 37 year old jaded wrestling fan, that was a rarity for me. In many ways, Aleister Black (as well as the rest of the incredible talent on that show) reignited my interest in wresting. Everything about the character was exceptional, in my opinion, that reminded me a lot of the magic that made Jake "The Snake" Roberts so special. His NXT theme was an absolute banger and my favorite jam for the gym. I had such high hopes for Mr. Black but also knew in my mind that WWE would find some way to make him look silly eventually. To be fair though, as cool as the NXT version of Aleister Black was, there still has to be more depth to the character to keep it fresh. Enter Malakai Black.
When it was announced that Black had been released by WWE, I was disappointed but I also knew that it was probably best after the feud with the Mysterios and all that other silliness. I loved the name 'Aleister Black' and I thought 'Malakai Black' was pretty solid as well from a story point-of-view as Malakai is the "darkest side" of Aleister Black. The way he carried the "eye injury" to AEW was brilliant in my opinion and shows that Tom understands importance of storytelling and continuity. He's a true student of the game. However, he has gone from insanely over as the badass vigilante who will kick your head off and do it gracefully to another dark, cult leader. I love dark, scary, morbid shit as much as the next guy but enough is enough already. Not to mention, the weird Andrade alliance. I would almost go as far as to say that AEW "ruined" in more than WWE ever did. I won't say that, however, because I don't think it's too late to turn Malakai Back around. Sadly though, I fear he might not be able to recapture that mystique he once had. I hope I am proven wrong very soon because his material damn near unwatchable.

Reminds me of the dudes in local bands I hang out with at shows and I mean that in a good way.
