I'll admit, I will miss the ones where the women is back for like the 4th+ time and she's testing the 11th, 12th and 13th potential father. And on all the previous episodes she's said this exact line "It has to be them because it couldn't have been anybody else!" i want to say there's a chick that's had like 18 dudes tested and still hasn't found the father.
And for the dudes, I'll always miss the "IT CAN'T BE MY BABY BECAUSE WE LOOK NOTHING ALIKE", Maury says "YOU ARE THE FATHER" and the dude hangs his head and just gives up on life.
Or the trope where the potential father has this girlfriend that does 98% of the talking (actually more like yelling) and is all like "SHE'S A NASTY ASS HO THAT AIN'T MY STEVE'S BABY!" I feel like "Nasty Ass Ho" is ALWAYS the phrase the girlfriend uses to describe the baby's mother, without fail. And when the mother speaks the girlfriend says "Nuh uh!" twice a second for 20 seconds straight.

One of my favorites was seeing this white-as-f*** couple with a black baby and not only was the white lady insisting that the baby was the white dude's, but the he also insisted on it. And they were visibly SHOCKED that the baby wasn't his when the DNA test came in. Even Maury looked at him like with this "I don't know why I have to read this" look to him.
This was such a guilty pleasure when I was a teenager. If I was sick in high school, it meant watching Maury at 9 and 10, and The Price is Right at 11. And when I had telecom class and it was a studio day, we'd all watch Maury in the other room. Good times.

I wonder if it was as bad back stage as the Jeremy Kyle Show has shown to be. I would guess that Maury, like Jerry Springer, had the producers just making up the ridiculous, outrageous shit to create "good" television. The same goes for Dr. Phil, I'm convinced 90% of the "characters" and insane stories are invented, which Jeremy Kyle was never allowed to do. Maury mainly dealt in DNA and lie detector tests, pretty sure they're not allowed to fake those. It'd damage the reputations of the people conducting the tests for the show.

Before it devolved into Springer lite, I enjoyed it, especially when Jack Hanna had his animals on there.
Always liked the Boot Camp episodes as well.

I don't think it was outright fake (Jerry Springer apparently was), but I also imagine the show producers encouraged the people to embellish the drama for the sake of entertainment.

Is this show an American Jeremy Kyle, which was a British Jerry Springer but real?

Seems Kyle was just a nasty f***er off camera as he was on it I did indeed. The joke was always that it was human cockfighting, but it's closer to that than anyone thought. Proper abusive stuff. Small connection, I worked at a clothes store in Manchester and I used to have producers come in to the shop and buy clothes for some of the participants. I'm guessing because they want them to present a setting way for whatever story they were telling.

To be honest, I'm not sure lie detector tests have much of a reputation to damage.
I don't know, it's not quite as outrageous as Springer or whatever, but I do still suspect a lot of it has been embellished even if they aren't outright hiring actors like Springer used to. Then again, I thought that about bits of Jeremy Kyle and look how that ended up...

There’s no such thing as a lie detector. It’s a fancy-ass heart rate monitor that can’t tell shit.

Daytime talk shows (if they were even real, wrestling has me convinced almost everything is a work, sometimes) are exploitive bullshit and for that reason I'm not sad that another one bites the dust.
There's a weird nostalgic and wistful part of me that will take me right back to like.. 1997, home sick from school, watching trash TV.

and Maury still has maintained that everything is real...

I thought it was just in reruns anyway. Nevertheless farewell to I think the last of the golden era of trash talk show television. Sally, Jenny, Jerry, Riki and finally Maury. A YouTube documentary about this would be great. How daytime talk shows grew and changed especially their evolution into trash talk shows. Say what you will about the likes of Phil Donahue, but he always seemed to try to strive for some legitimacy. Was it Jerry Springer that kind of started the race to the bottom?

Man, I'm really showing my age here, but I still associate Maury Povich more with A Current Affair then I do with this trashy talk show. I remember as a kid watching Maury on the show covering the fall of the Berlin Wall.

In the late 90s a friend was on 3 day time talk shows,Springer was one of them. What it is is the stories are real. They just pay people to be the parts. Like my friend,on Rowanda she was "My parents hate my boyfriend" then on Danny it was "I worship the tree in my yard as God". According to her one dude booked all the guests for all the daytime talk shows, besides Oprah. Oddly about 2 weeks ago I bought the Maury YOU ARE NOT THE FATHER board game.

This was legit the first thing that popped into my head when I saw this thread. The utter ludicrousness of the whole thing blows my mind. You put this on your show and of course people are gonna think it's fake. Either it's fake or they found the absolute stupidest people on the face of the planet to be on the show.

The best thing about the show is when some ho says that one of two guys are the father of her spawn, only to find out that neither of them are the father. The ho then runs off the stage while the guys, who previously may not have even known each other, high five. If you ran track and field in High School or College, you damn sure had a job on the Maury show as a camera man cause those women could not escape them *consoling Maury* Idk how he never broke at least once lmao
