In the time it's taken this guy to write one book, Tolkien got his hobbits from the Shire to Mount Doom, Bella Swan became a vampire, Christian Gray and Ana Steele had sex 1000 times, Panem collapsed, Count Olaf was defeated, and JK Rowling got through a war in the wizarding world and psychologically imploded. Also, Sam Vimes rose to become Duke of Ankh Morpork, Death retired, unretired, forged a relationship with his granddaughter and Magrat got married and had a kid.

I'm happy for him to be dome when he's done with the books. It's his baby to do with as he pleases, after all and people have gotten an ending in some form, even if it's not one they like.

So, what comes out first: The Winds of Winter or The Elder Scrolls VI?

It could be a close run thing.

It could be a close run thing. Ironically, Skyrim and A Dance of Dragons came out around the same time.

I tapped out after season 1, but when was it the TV show went beyond the books?

I'm very skeptical about this. If anything I'd guess the show runners were begging him for guidance, and he was telling them "do you not have the notes I emailed you? Then piss off, I'm speaking on a panel in 20 minutes and then I've got fans waiting to praise me".

I tapped out after season 1, but when was it the TV show went beyond the books? The last 2 seasons Thanks. I think the producers/writers knew pretty early on that they would catch up and surpass the books, and stopped humouring and including GRRM at the point he descibes.

The entire career of the Beatles, happened in less time.

And again, he's not wrong. But you know what would have solved all those problems he complains about? Finishing the damn books. I mean, since the last book in the series was released the entire show came and went. The more he talks and the more he procrastinates I think it becomes ever more obvious that he simply has no idea how to finish them, and the tepid reaction to the way the show finished probably made that worse.

My friend had been reading these books as they came out. It was frustrating for him that just as Dance with Dragons came out just before the show and people had 5 books right there. Meanwhile he had waited 6 years between books. It's now been 11 years since the last book. I have zero faith that he will ever finish the series.
That was why I ultimately watched the show beyond the books. I knew avoiding spoilers would be impossible and at least I would get an ending.
It's a shame the head writers made the last season with one foot out the door.

Yeah, the last season was absolutely rushed to get to the ending and skipping what needed to be like a season or two's worth of character development... I mean HBO apparently said the show runners could have all the time they needed but they wanted to rush to teh finish to get to started on their "Star Wars" project that got cancelled due to how poorly received the last season was. but yeah... if George had the books out could solve some of the pacing issues... though I think ultimately we'd have the same issue at the end.

It seems like he more interested in dictating things as opposed to finishing the books. He rather be the guy everyone goes to and apparently he has solutions and suggestions for everything involving tv shows but it looks like he has no interest in finishing the books which is a problem in itself. You like the TV side of things, fine. But just you saying they didn’t listen to you about the show, you’re not listening to anyone about the books. If you’re suggesting the show runs 12-13 seasons my follow up question would be, so how many books are getting done in that time frame. Will we have a complete story or will we still end up with way things happened

To be fair I can understand how draining running a show is for nearly a decade and having GRRM poo pooing stuff while not having a book to go on as well. I know he gave them an outline and stuff but some of his ideas were really out there and hasn't even gained traction in the books. Wanting 12-13 seasons is absurd and it wouldve become a shambling bloated mess TBH. I didnt mind them picking things up even it was laughable at how people teleported.

I'm 100% fine when artists come forward and say "You know what, it's done. I can't finish it the way I want." I'd much rather have that then eternal "I'm working on it". And I do understand that functionally those can be the same thing for an artist.
I kinda wish George would say something like "It's over unless I can come up with more story that I'm satisfied with." It would be honest. I think.
Either way: We Need Floppy Weeners

GRRM tried to send notes to HBO about the direction GOT would take in seasons seven and eight via email, but the email is 300,000 words long and he still hasn't finished writing it.
