Last night, on SNL In The 90's, Norm MacDonald mentioned that he wanted to do a Jeopardy sketch where he would be playing Burt Reynolds, and the real Burt Reynolds would come out, punch him in the face, and take over. And then turn out to be stupider that Norm playing Burt Reynolds. But Norm got fired before it happened.
And that, gentlemen and prostitutes, would have Been The Best SNL Moment Ever.

I sorta wish they would have done that with Sean Connery. That my friend, would be the greatest thing.

Wow, I'm reminded of how much I appreciated the comedic stylings of Norm MacDonald. His jokes had one of those sweet non-delivery things going on. Similar to Leslie Nielsen or maybe Ryan Reynolds or something like that. His Celebrity Jeopardy Burt was fun. This skit would have owned.

I saw that. That would have been awesome. Sadly, it didn't happen.

They made a lot of great points about Norm last night that made me appreciate him that much more. Like the fact that he basically didn't care what people thought about him and his comedy, especially the higher-ups that thought he was unprofessional.

SNL can draw A-listers, but not the A+ listers (save for Hanks who had SNL roots). Any way you slice it, it would have been nice to do. BTW-Anyone notice NO mention of the Eliot/Garafolo season?

They kind've did like 10 years later. Granted, there was no punching involved, and it was on an entirely different show ( My Name Is Earl), but, Burt & Norm were on the same show playing virtually the same character.

I caught some of that SNL show last night.
I thought Norm had a bad falling out with the higher-ups at NBC and was kind of surprised he was featured so prominently on the special last night.

I always snicker when I turn past the rubbish that is now calling itself "SNL" and remember Norm McDonald got fired because he wasn't funny. Once they lost Will Ferrell and his zany, if not identical, approach to all of his characters, they were dead in the water.
Then again, if Tina Fey is their definition of funny......

SNL has been sinking deeper and deeper since the early-90s.
I mean look at that cast:
Chris Rock, Mike Myers, Phil Hartman, Adam Sandler, David Spade, Chris Farley, Rob Schneider, all of whom had great careers after they left show.
Hell even Dana Carvey and Kevin Nealon, who didn't really go on to big film careers, were great on that show.
Then in the late-90s they had some high spots: McDonald, Colin Quinn, and or course Will Farrell. But in the last 5 or 6 years there's been no real reason to watch the show.
You know what else sucks? That when Viacom bought Comedy Central they took all the old SNL reruns off of that channel and replaced them with crapty Mad TV.

You know, I haven't been that big on SNL in the past couple years, but I've found that this season has been on an upswing again. Probably cause Tina Fey and Jimmy Fallon aren't on the show anymore. There are a couple of them that still annoy me, but for the most part they have a pretty good cast this year.
