So, fun personal connection on this episode, Wesley Nsereko from tonight's episode is the current champion of my local promotion True Grit Wrestling.

So they went 5 heats, 3 quarters, 2 semis and the grand final. It's a mish-mash of the US formats from the first two seasons and seasons 3 & 4. I'm cool with it. Also, tonights eliminator runs....man. Some of the best runs.

Wesley subbing for Finlay was eerily well-timed to play a little on the WWE's current injury bugs, even though it was all filmed and in the can last year. I hope they use more wrestlers as subs, it makes for a compelling show, and the Eliminator round was terrific.

I just watched the first episode. It was good--good production values, the new games are good, the gladiators all seem entertaining. It is already a step up on the last attempt at a reboot. I like the backstage segments too.

And jsut to add, Sabre automatically makes this show worth watching.

I missed the last two episodes because I was visiting family, so I'm just catching up now.
I think the Ring needs a slight rework, it's an absolutely great game but I don't like how getting tackled doesn't stop competitors from scoring. Gladiators have to release and the contender can continue from where they left off or hit the button from the deck. Comparing it to Powerball, most tackles kill the ball so the contender has to go back to the basket (but the contender has more options for scoring because there's five goal buckets)
EDIT: And then the boys go and prove my point. Nitro and Phantom didn't tackle their contenders, they played passive and their contenders had to try and run past the literal sprinters. It's like the more the gladiator does, the easier it is for the contender.

Unfortunately there will be no more appearances from Comet this series. In episode 4 she suffered a significant injury on Hang Tough. This wasn't mentioned on the show and she even did the interview on the floor after the event. According to my brother who is a friend of her brother, she's recovered very well. www.instagram.com/p/C3LJE0foZbG/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

So far, I think Gauntlet should be retooled or scrapped. I know it's one of the classic games, but from the episodes I have watched so far, it is too easy.

Just finished episode 3 -- Viper is a bit useless isn't he? lol
So--most likely to make a transition to pro-wrestling the way Nick Aldis and Mason Ryan did? Nitro stands out for me.

Legend has his character down. I think quite a few could give it a go, Nitro is up there. Sabre on the female side, another one who has mannerisms down, somehow she does a sexy walk standing still, and last weekend got a new dimension to her character.

Mason Ryan, Nick Aldis, Inferno and Warrior (the latter two were in FCW for like five minutes) were already wrestlers on the indie scene in the UK and we're then signed to TNA/WWE. They didn't transition from being a Gladiator to being a wrestler. They went for the job to get a platform to get signed. Nick Aldis most blatantly because he would just go out and cut a promo. Several of current crop of Gladiators are actively competing in their sports or have retired from them in their thirties. Why would someone go for the grind of pro-wrestling when they're on TV already and can transition into acting or being an influencer? Legend has a character and the look, but he's making three million a year as a fitness YouTuber.

Barney is a terrible host. Bradley isn't much better to be honest.
But Barney is a complete charisma vaccumme, and I find it weird how a father and son can have so little natural chemistry.

Well, someone must have had a word with Apollo.
Still needs a change of look but that was more than he's shown all series.

Nice to see Apollo showing some personality. He's a weird one in that I am always surprised when I see he is 6'6. He always looks much smaller.
Top 5 Gladiators for me
1 - Fury 2 - Sabre 3 - Legend 4 - Giant 5 - Nitro

Ummmmm... is some of this stuff fake? Like, the Gladiators have clearly scripted heel moments, which are whatever, but those are almost always followed up by the contender destroying them, which makes me raise my eyebrow a little.

Probably one of the tamer episodes last night. No Edge or Gauntlet. I think I've just realized by their absence they're my favourite events.
Viper got told off for knocking off a competitor's helmet and really schooling him in a grapple, but it was one of the other contenders who got D.Q'ed on Duel for using her weapon to balance herself on the podium.

Nitro is charming, I suspect he's probably the most likely of the male gladiators to have a media career outside of this show.

That was the on air reason, but the actual reason was that she mounted no offense and just turtled the entire match. By rule, that is also a disqualification.
