Well at least they’ve gone back the set up in the original series from that trailer. Did the sky reboot have the opening song in it ? I might actually watch this.

I sneered at the original of this until I watched it and wound up actually enjoying it! Now that Strictly is over for another year I need a non singing competition show to watch on a Saturday night. Hopefully this should fit the bill.

"They make Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson look like a pebble"
Thought this was a lot of fun, I was a bit weirded out by some editing choices early on but I got used to it. It crammed a lot in, got to a decent mix of old and new games, some heels were established like the blatant rule-breaking Viper and 'Leg-End' (sorry, Legend). There was some drama with one of the contenders, Finn, sustaining a leg injury but he not only came back to compete, he ended up conquering the eliminator and headed into the quarter finals.

Should also note that an Australian reboot starts this week, the third attempt at the concept here after the very successful mid-1990s version and a kinda mid late-2000s version.

Wow that was actually good. I expected them to mess with it too much but it was in the spirit of the original. The theme song is still a banger. Legend looks a great heel, not sure about a Viper playing Wolf.
The hosts were the only issue. Bradley would be good as the Dad of a 3 person team like Tony in aew but his son doesn’t really fit. I read someone saying Michah Richards would have been the ideal host and couldn’t agree more.

The Sky one felt like it was trying too hard and everyone was trying to be Wolf but more badass. Nitro won me over in 5 seconds, give me more big goofs. I can even forgive him nicking Jet's theme song. Agree on the hosts, I'd say Ian Wright coming back would have been a good choice too.

The shaky camera effect on the replays should be cut. That's the kind of thing Kevin Dunn would come up with.

Not because of his ability to present game shows, but because of how the show will be set up for taping. There's going to be a LOT of dead time during the tapings to set up/break down the equipment and mats and the crowd needs to be entertained and kept hot during those long dead spells. The original version did this by having cheerleaders do choreographed performances. I'm not sure what Sky did. Bradley Walsh will have gotten his start in TV by being a warmup act for the crowd, and has probably done standup in the past so that kind of thing is bread and butter. His son I'm not sold on. I would have preferred a female presenter, because that's just how it always was but he's not offensive or an active turnoff.

I loved it. A collection of new and old games, an authentic feel of the original, decent Gladiators whose personalities will eventually shine through….decent Saturday night viewing.
It has some minor flaws, of course - I didn’t like the backstage parts with the Gladiators talking about events, and while I’ve nothing against Barney Walsh there should maybe be a female presenter for balance. It was off to a good start though, so good luck to all involved.

I enjoyed the heck out of episode 2 as well. Powerball was great, the Edge is an absolute all time great event. Duel and The Wall are classics for a reason. Not a huge fan of how both runs of the wall were affected by shoes coming off - must have been gutting for the glads. Gauntlet is an event I like but it looks like it's a free ten points for everyone (that doesn't get injured) - but it very often was in the classic show too.
Apollo is an absolute beast. In the events he does he is great. Him on Powerball/Ring/Edge is like watching Hunter on The Wall. Legend and Viper are continuing to panto villain style heels. Legend I think gets it, he's completely full of himself and it works it's funny, and it gets heat from the audience. Viper doesn't talk but is angy. I need a little more time with him. Sabre making cat puns and Fury being absolutely the opposite of her namesake is glorious. Most of the other female glads haven't had enough camera time to make an impression on me yet.
Only one locker room segment this week. I still like it, seeing the gladiators pump eachother up after a mildly disappointing result (Diamond fell but the contender stepped across which is what caused her to fall) is nice.
The Travelator was brutal this week. I haven't seen/heard of it being this difficult to get up since Sky series 1 where they'd just... Cut out the times where both contenders couldn't get up because they were soaking wet.
I'm looking forward to episode 3.
