I'm assuming they might have thought it was too obvious (or just wanted him to focus only on Cody for some reason) but Arn Anderson mentoring Brian Pillman Jr. was right there. (I guess they could have done Tully too but Pillman Sr. was not in a Horseman group with Tully) I suppose maybe they would've thought putting the second-gen wrestlers together would've been a bit too Legacy, but you're right. Or Arn didn't want to, which would be pretty damning in and of itself.

One of Pillman Jr's biggest issues, beyond whatever he says on twitter, is just that he's super stalled out. Dude has been all hope and potential since 2018, and in that time he hasn't really developed into much. Four years is way too soon to fully call on the guy's career, but in terms of being in the big leagues, he really exposed himself the moment he started to get any substantial push. Varsity Blonds in the Daily's Place era doing Youtube show matches was fine and they seemed likable enough but once Pillman got a chance to spread his wings out, it was embarrassing. It felt like plans for him to be a bigger deal fell through and they fell through on the weight of him being visibly not ready.
Best thing for the guy's career right now if ith as any chance of being back on a main stage is to get cut loose and go keep grinding away. He has a long way to go and I'm not sure a lack of Youtube show reps is really his issue.

So for those who never had the pleasure of seeing him, Matt Morgan (the Blueprint, the DNA of TNA, etc.) in his TNA run was largely defined by his "potential." "He's got so much potential!" Mike Tenay would say of the man in his mid-30's who'd been wrestling for years.
That's basically where Pillman's at. Dude's been wrestling for 5 years and the most you can really say about him is "he's got potential!"

Award them some release papers. Pillman has floundered every chance he's been given and Griff needs a tour of the indies for a bit. I see promise in keeping Griff, he's improved a ton since he's been there already. Pillman I won't really care if they let him go, but Griff could like, slide into JAS and be developed by them if Garcia gets forced out. I think Griff has potential, but a nice year long tour of the indies would do him huge favors imo. We saw what it did for KiLynn.

Why does everyone hate Pillman again? It’s nothing easily google able I initially wondered this myself. Like if Evil Uno doesn't like you then that's a "something's wrong with you" problem, b/c Uno looks like the nicest man on the planet and could get along with anyone.

I think there is very few people AEW that went from " he seems promising" to "bottom of the barrel". And Pillman definitely is one of then

Was not most wrestling fans bullied by guys just like his character in school? Even then its more like incredibly generic. Hell MJF leans into the high school bully asshole vibe alot.

I know Pillman had a lot of stuff happen to him in the last year but I remember at some point Pillman was having a pity party on Twitter and several AEW wrestlers basically told him he needed to stop getting himself into situations that everyone knew was bad. He's just an airhead from what I've seen. No self awareness and doesn't listen when people try to give him advice

Yeah, one gets the sense he's not the most receptive to life advice one way or another, and unfortunately, like with anything on the spectrum from additions to plain bad behavior, can't do a whole lot for someone who doesn't want help other than hope they eventually come around to wanting it.
It's tough because on one hand he does probably need cut loose to get his shit together, but is bottoming out going to convince him to get his shit together or just enable worse behavior?

Being a straight up dumbass and seemingly never learning from it destroyed his presence in the locker room. I also remember him instagramming himself in a shirt that was... not great, and a ton of people torched him for that too He has had an extremely rough year personally, lost most everything in a house fire and had to move, but his irl personality seems so aggravating that not even THAT has stopped people from dunking on him for his dumb tweets or what have you. The dude has simply played himself, from what I've seen.

The free nature of AEW having the Nightmare Factory to train while doing the indies might work for some folks, but I feel like someone like Pillman Jr. needs a firmer hand to guide him in the right direction. Also a place like NXT 2.0 is a much better, lesser pressure situation that might be ideal for him, cause making it to the being booked on Dynamite vs being booked for NXT is a world of difference. There are so many better prospects that should be on Dynamite compared to Pillman, but he’s fit right learning how to fight with other green dudes with potential like Bron Rex Breakker Steiner.

Why does everyone hate Pillman again? It’s nothing easily google able Made some really stupid social media posts. Examples include wearing a cancel cancel-culture shirt, acting like he's been canceled, bitched about Starbucks having the dining area closed while the drive thru was open and he could see employees inside. Oh, and when Marko Stunt's brother (Logan) was accused of sexual harassment, Pillman messaged the accuser asking if there was any way she made Marko's brother think it was okay, and asked her if she knew what kind of damage it could do to Logan. There's also how AEW wrestlers have no problem dunking on him in public. Giving the hint that what he's said online is just the tip of the iceberg, and he doesn't leave it at home. Yeah, he's been kind of a dumb f***. Which is a shame, because I was hoping he'd go far after his start in Pro wrestling.

Why does everyone hate Pillman again? It’s nothing easily google able He was one of the bigger propents of anti-masking and he's said some really dumb stuff to other wrestlers on twitter. He's sort of like Lio Rush except he doesn't have a fraction of the talent Lio has and doesn't have a leg to stand on like Lio did (the rookie hazing thing).

Dynamite is a shark tank where you either start swimming real fast or get eaten alive, and not everyone is going to be like Hook who have both the charisma, skills, and gimmick to start that strong. So, yeah. You're 100% right... Pillman really needs to be in NXT, not the most arguably stacked 2 hours of wrestling per week.

Pillman is a guy who had a shitty upbringing and is also someone whose status as the son of a famous wrestler is more curse than boon.
And he comes off like a schmuck on top of it so it's hard to feel much sympathy for him. I don't see much in Griff but he's got Pillman as dead weight.
