Julia leaving didn't hurt them so much as Pillman's massive regression in ring and those... really bad promos he tried cutting
Garrison has some actual upside as a blue chipper, Pillman needs an entire reset and his personality does him no favors.

I love that he makes it out like Varsity Blondes were going hard as f*** until the moment Julia left a few months back. Dudes were already floundering with no edge or spark to speak of when Malakai first spat in Julia's eye almost a year ago.

Who could forget when he probably traumatized John Harbaugh

I don't think losing Julia had as much to do with it, rather the MJF feud killed Pillman, IMO. You can't have MJF say those things about his family and then have him get tapped out clean in the middle of the ring. Yes, he says dumb things out of the ring and wasn't the most impressive when given his chance but not being able to get revenge for his family was death for the character.

Pillman's promo in Baltimore is one of the funniest I've seen all year. I wish I could find it again.

Just put both of these dudes in the JAS, they would make a fine pair of goons. Guevara should never have went back and Garcia has outgrown the stable, Pillman and Garrison would make fine replacements and bring the stable back to it's original purpose - shameless worship of Jericho.

If taking away your valet ruins a team, then the team isn't very good to begin with

Disagree with Pillman that losing Julia had anything to do with it. They were trying to push Brian as a legit threat last fall and he tanked. Then he was given the mic and it didn't work.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Their gimmick was WCW Saturday Night levels of cheese (I love it personally) and they basically hit their ceiling. Pillman Jr did them no favors with their attempted single pushes of him and fumbling the ball each time.

Julia has way more upside, the initial cheerleader gimmick was a good start for her, but week in and out you can see her improvement on the youtube shows.

Pillman had his chance at the Cinci show during that segment with MJF.
Yeah, MJF was going over because... duh. But that was the moment where Pillman Jr could have really shown us something. Some fire. Some intensity. The promo of his life. Max is a real "keepin' it kayfabe" kinda guy, so I'm sure he would have at least agreed to a busted lip or something to show that Pillman Jr is pissed and is working in a higher gear. It was a weak, underhanded lob at Pillman designed for him to knock it out of the park.
What we got was... not that. The Varsity Blondes have been a fart in church ever since.

Pillman Jr. is an interesting archetype in that he's both the prince and the pauper. His rough upbringing likely made sure people around him were patient when he decided to become a pro wrestler. Him being the son of a minor legend is like being of old money: Wether you're talented or not, there's a network that'll make learning easier. So he was a wrestling fan and had enough drive to get to competent indie levels. Despite having no look, unremarkable wrestling, not being athletic, not being as good looking or expressive as his father, not being a natural talker, not having the unique voice, not having pretty much anything that would pop out on tv. In AEW it was time for him to decide: Bust your ass and become the prince, or stop caring and become the pauper. Naturally in that competetive of an environment, people weren't as eager to teach him, but he seemingly still needs to be proteged in order to figure out if he's even a prospect worth investing in. Left on his own he isn't mature enough, he for sure isn't skillful enough and doesn't seem talented enough. So he either matures or he can be very, very happy popping up in Impact after his contract expires.
It's fun to dunk on him, but I'm not sure if there isn't lots of potential for self destruction in him. He already kind of does it.

Almost all of the things that a wrestler can give down to their children are not hereditary, but conditioned and Pillman didn't spend much time with his dad The main characteristic of his father that is genetic? Susceptibility to substance abuse! And he got into pro wrestling! I think Pillman is a goon and I was rooting for him but was hoping for more from him than he has been able to show. I hope he is able to put it all together, or at the very least avoid all the darker roads his dad went down

I feel like Pillman chose the wrong era of his dad to follow. He went with super babyface, which Pillman did in the beginning, but he made it work because he had such an underdog feeling and he had that natural charisma that people pulled for. It just doesn’t really work for Jr. He should’ve went more loose cannon, crazy apple doesn’t fall far from the tree kinda thing.

Now that you mention it, if Jericho hasn't already asked to bring Pillman in under him, that can't be a good sign. Jericho has gone out of his was since he joined AEW to mentor young or less popular guys he clearly thinks have promise, like him apparently asking to get Garcia first in this recent angle because he knew he could help make him (and boy was he right with how that has all played out).

Since AEW will give the Blondes another chance on tv, here is Julia not regretting leaving the group.
