Like, I get the logic of people saying the surprise is ruined but also... he's literally on the poster as well as the commercials. And I know WWE doesn't have a great history with advertising people for the show but it was clearly obvious they expected him to be there and if they didn't, Cody was going to force the issue himself and shoot enter the thing. This may be painting with a broad brush, but I feel like the 90% of the people who are like "they ruined a surprise" also would be like "oh, we knew he was coming" if they didn't announce it.

Yeah not every injury return needs to be a surprise. And if he’s leveling up, doing it the same way they did for Triple H in 2002 makes sense.

OMG Ricochet looks like the biggest dork. “Yeeeaaahh!!” And Kevin is positioned where he’s like “really, bro?”

Not really related but the poster topic reminds me of that time they put two Xaviers on a poster for I think it was Mania, might've been SummerSlam.

I'm really concerned that him being announced early means he isn't winning.
I know he's on the poster but that doesn't really mean anything, these things are done way in advance. I really hope I'm wrong as he's pretty much the only reason I'll be watching the Rumble.

I don't think him being announced has anything to do with him winning or not. Hunter returned a month before the Rumble after he tore his quad and still won it. I think they just want to get the hype going now and maybe try to sell a few more tickets.

People are used to the mega surprise pop and it is nice to have that name coming in with major build Old school way to build up a star

I swear if Cody ends up not winning the Rumble so he can do YET ANOTHER Seth match...

I'm kind of starting to suspect they're going to do a thing of him and Seth going to a draw and that being what leads to the belts being split. Bret Hart/Lex Luger finish 30 year anniversary

Yeah, if the plan is simply for him to win the Rumble and challenge Roman, they sure are telegraphing it. That said, I still think it’s 100% the direction they should go. I hate the idea of splitting the titles at Mania. Everyone who’s challenged Roman, since he’s held both titles, has challenged for both titles. It would be an absolute anticlimax for the winner of the goddamn Royal Rumble to get a lesser title whot. The titles do have to be split at some point. But do it later. The person that dethrones Roman should do it utterly and completely.

He’s super over, more so because of the sympathy angle of last year, crowd loves him and he’s got a built in legacy story too. Zayn would be amazing but I can’t see it being a ‘Mania feud and they’ve literally never brought up the Rollins draw since it happened which feels insanely weird considering he was the only one to do that with him during Roman’s reign so far.

Sami’s story is better served with him realizing the Bloodline just used him as he and KO team up to win the tag titles from the Usos.

I’m not the biggest Cody fan but the story has been made since he came back in how it shapes for him to put WWE gold on his family name Sami is over and if there was no Cody you’d legit consider putting the title on him but it isn’t warranted now. His best bet is to have the emotional reunion with KO, give them a fun tag run and then circle around to Sami big solo run

So If I understand this correctly:
They are spoiling his return when they could leave bread crumbs.
Telegraphing the RR PPV ending making it entirely pointless to watch.
Then expect people to buy him as a world beater because of reasons.
