One of my first thoughts were “oh boy, that’s a pair I’d never thought I’d see fight again.” What's the backstory here? Not familiar with them and couldn't see anything on Wiki Last year they faced and Nakajima legit knocked out Miyahara in the opening minutes.

What's the backstory here? Not familiar with them and couldn't see anything on Wiki Last year they faced and Nakajima legit knocked out Miyahara in the opening minutes. That was Tetsuya Endo. Nakajima played a part in Kento Miyahara's training with Kensuke Sasaki. Apparently, neither Kensuke nor Nakajima were the nicest teachers but Nakajima basically used his position as Sasaki's prized protege and adopted son to bully Miyahara. As a result, Miyahara refused to work with Nakajima for years.

Yeah, Kensuke was a monster of a trainer in New Japan, known for being abusive to the point of allegedly being the cause of a young boy dying in the dojo. I’m using allegedly here to note his level of involvement – the young boy was killed on his watch either way. That was a whole thing that caused some to leave the program and Tana would later point to those years as a reason why the Noge site needed to change its culture.
Once he moved onto his own promotion (Diamond Ring), he picked Nakajima as the prized pupil and basically adopted him as a son. Everyone else got the usual Kensuke training abuse now x10 without the New Japan brass to restrict him, and Nakajima was right along side him. This led to a lot of horrible stories of pushing guys way too far in addition to hazing. Miyahara was there to start his career and faced all of this, which is why he and Nakajima being in a match is interesting.
As soon as All Japan came calling, Miyahara dumped Diamond Ring and never looked back. That’s why he’s so loyal to AJPW – they gave him the opportunity to get away from those guys and become what we see today.

AFAIK The Great Sasuke has nothing to do with this Also, on the alleged trainee death, the story goes that Sasaki wanted to impress Riki Choshu (who was his mentor and was visiting the dojo at the time) by showing him how much this trainee could bump/take punishment. Don't know how much truth there is to the story, but Sasaki was indeed one of those guys. As far as Nakajima's training, he was picked up way before Diamond Ring was a thing. In fact, he was trained only in part by Sasaki, with Genichiro Tenryu also helping to train him. After that Sasaki formed Kensuke Office with Nakajima and his wife Akira Hokuto, who also trained the wrestlers in their dojo. And I don't think I need to tell anyone how brutal joshi training his, and I don't think Hokuto spared anyone from that either. Diamond Ring only came years down the road from that (KO opened in 2006 and wouldn't become Diamond Ring until 2012).

If so, that makes it all the more pointless a death, considering Choshu and Sasaki would have a falling out later on. That time was definitely Choshu's fault, though, as Riki had been a terrible business partner and just about wiped out Sasaki's savings, resulting in him having to bust his ass to make it back.

The Observer, Tokyo Sports, and Mutoh himself have reported that Mutoh tore the hamstrings in both legs in the final Muta match. It’s so bad he hasn’t been able to stand for extended periods of time and hasn’t trained any of his lower body since the match.
Even still, Mutoh says he’s still going to go through with the Naito match. It’s 18 days away.

He's been wheeled to multiple awards shows they've been holding in Japan, as well. Like I said, he says he's going to white knuckle it. Someone made the joke that if all else fails, just have Kaz Hayashi shave his head and wrestle Naito.

I don't see how someone can power through a match on two torn hamstrings. It seems impossible.

On a lighter note, here's Kenoh in his finest three-piece suit looking thorough a magazine of nudes from STARDOM's Giulia before his press conference for the show. Because Kenoh is odd.
