Thinking about just how he's booked and not his build or stature, would Hook count? Save for the stuff with Big Bill they kind of have people react to him like he is one.

To me a hoss is a hoss in both offense and defense. Hence why it looked much easier for Hunico to do the roll through Powerbomb than for Roman, yet Roman feels like much more of a hoss. I don't see someone as a hoss when they don't have the mass to withstand. Chad Gable for sure is better at throwing people around than most wrestlers on the roster, but he is also easy to move due to his size.

Judas Mesias in TNA. People expected a big guy, he was just a guy.

Scott Norton was another one who was hyped as ts behemoth but he never struck me as particularly huge. I think Norton is like the hoss of hosses. He's built like a tank, freakishly strong, zero finesse. Just a guy who seems like he could crush most guys with very little effort if things got real.

The smaller hoss is honestly one of my favorite types of wrestler, but it's all about delivery and impact. When someone's moveset just works with it and they can show off a lot of strength and explosivity despite their size, it sells them in a reall neat way. Someone who's a bit short but incredibly wide throwing people around with suplexes and going toe to toe with someone towering over them will always get a pop out of me. Definitely more than some immobile giant who can't do anything at any speed but the commentators cream themselves over how big he is. Hoss credibility is something you sell as a performer. This. You've got someone like Jeff Cobb now, who I've seen compared to Gary Albright who was sort of the archetypal hoss, and while Cobb isn't anywhere near as big he's still totally believable as a powerhouse hoss because he knows how to sell it. Samoa Joe a decade or more ago too, he wasn't remarkably big for a wrestler but still got himself over as a monster heel with the right moveset.

I remember thinking that ECW Taz was a lot thicker than he actually was, thought that he was just short. Then he showed up in the land of the giants of WWE and he looked quite small all the way around.
ECW Taz is probably my favorite wrestler of all time though.

I feel like XXXL of Acey Romero and Larry D kind of fit that bill. Both are husky for sure, but even in Impact they weren't bigger than a lot of the smaller workers so a lot of their power moves just didn't work... heck Romero actually tried (and on the indies did) more flying around until Scott D'Amore and Don Callis told him to stop

Yeah, "hoss" doesn't have anything to do with height. I think people are mistaking "hoss" for the similar trope "giant."

They presented Roman as the big guy in The Shield. In reality, he's not much bigger than Seth Rollins. Except outweighing him by about 40 pounds?

I think a good term would be Bruiser. Example would be Roderick Strong. He's 5'9, 205-210lbs but he hits like damn mack truck. Look at the UE vs Imperium tag match, WALTER is damn hoss but Strong for a moment was rocking him.

Sienna in TNA
They tried to present her as this big presence and they did the same with Lei'd Tapa as well

When Joey Abs first debuted for the Mean Street Posse they tried to present him as a hoss, with JR literally calling him "huge". It didn't last very long, which was probably a smart move considering apart from his biceps he looked smaller than Pete Gas.

How has no one said Ishii yet Because Ishii is a hoss He’s tiny. He wrestles like a hoss, carries himself like one. But he’s very small. He’s like the perfect example of what this thread is talking about.

I don't how someone like Borga wouldn't qualify as being a hoss. Dude was like 6'3" or 6'4" and about 300 pounds and incredibly strong. Same goes for Volkoff.
As far as faux hosses goes I think that can be applied for a lot of wrestlers today just due to guys being a lot smaller now especially in environments like AEW or NXT. As a result you'll get 6'2" 240 guys like Wardlow and Karrion Kross being booked like powerhouse juggernauts when in reality they are just average sized wrestlers. Like Wardlow is probably about as big as Curt Hennig was. Maybe even a little smaller. And Curt Hennig was never anyone would classify as a hoss.
