It's hard to believe he aged so much in just 4 years Tammy did similar in 2, if you look at her in WWF and WCW, wonder if there's a common factor Crack.

Can't believe nobody mentioned Batista yet. I'm not sure how many people wanted Batista to leave versus people wanting Bryan to have his moment.

In terms of hype? Recently Johnny Gargano. For a lot of the people Triple H brought back I don't think there was much hype, but it seemed like there was was excitement to see where Johnny Wrestling would go. But man he's fallen so far. I think Gargano is trending dangerously close to being what I think of as pro wrestling "fool's gold". Guys that LOOK like they have all the tools, and SHOULD be in the upper echelon, if not "The Guy", but never quite get there for one reason or another. Alberto Del Rio, Ken Kennedy, and Lex Luger are probably the best historic examples of the form.

Adds up to the same thing - the fans absolutely did not want him in that spot. Bryan or no Bryan face Batista had been out of juice since whenever he attacked Rey.
