CM Punk thread got me thinking, the dude went from people being ecstatic for his return to not caring if they ever saw him again in the span of about one year, which is pretty impressive, but I'm positive there are people who did it much quicker.
For instance: Shane McMahon's return in 2016. I thought he was going to be a breath of fresh air after years of misery booking under The Authority, and yet the very first thing they had him do was a Hell in a Cell match with Undertaker at Wrestlemania, which he had to win if he wanted to run the company, which he didn't, but then they just let him run the show anyway. The whole thing was so stupid and pointless it made me wish he hadn't come back at all. That opinion didn't change thanks to him spending the next several years McMahon'ing all over everything he was involved with.
Who else do you have?

Not exactly an example of what you're looking for, but MSG went from losing their shit for Cena at Royal Rumble 2008 to remembering they hated him in the space of about a minute.

Alberto Del Rio beats John Cena for the US title and within a month or so he's doing that Mexican America shit and then ruining the previously great League of Nations group just via his presence.

It’s fairly recent but Bray’s comeback has had the biggest loss of patience I’ve ever seen 😂

Hit Row's return.
They should have left again...yesterday.

Even if down the line everything comes together and the story makes perfect sense, I still feel we’re gonna look back and say “Yeah, the payoff makes sense. The angle still sucked ass tho”

Ronda Rousey returned last year to a huge pop and a Wrestlemania world match and now she's in a nothing midcard tag match this year. The most damning thing is nobody is saying that it's unfair on her. It's more like, "yeah, that makes sense." She's not over enough to deserve a marquee match. Say what you will about Bray but at least he still gets great crowd reactions every time he appears.

To be fair, I don't think anyone said "yay he's back!." I'm gonna say Karrion Kross. Nobody cares about the guy then or now.

Edge. Great return at the Rumble, a true feel-good moment. Been waiting for him to go back to Canada ever since.

I think Edge prior to his heel turn in 2004.

And if he turns out to be leaving again, I would go as far as to call him this generation's Ultimate Warrior: insanely over when he gets back, but soon reveals that he's not worth the pains.

If I have the timing right, him returning instantly killed a lot of his popularity. He'd been the guy kicked out of WWE after someone was racist to HIM he was having a great run on the indies, almost had a folk hero thing going on. Then oh, back at the first opportunity... oh.

Hit Row's return. They should have left again...yesterday. Was anyone particularly happy they were back though? The general online reaction when they returned seemed to be "Well, I'm glad they have jobs again, but they aren't shit without Swerve."

You can point to them when you say that Hunter was just generally, quickly undoing what Vince/Nick K. did before anyone else went to AEW.

So He's Mainstream (again) Now He Sucks? I did like meeting him and Scarlett on said indies though. I didn't know/forgot about the part of someone being racist to him.

Thats because since she been back her matches mostly been the shits and she shown zero personality. Even at the Rumble half the people where like ok she back but no I don't want her to like win.

I think Edge prior to his heel turn in 2004. Yeah, I mean I can't believe how quick I turned on him, given he was one of my favorites before he left. But he returns with a more intense attitude, different tights, a cover up tattoo, different music and completely roided to the gills. He may as well have been a different wrestler entirely. They really should have called an audible and have him not beat Orton for the IC title. They ended a great reign and started a terrible one. There was a reason why people were calling him Garb-Edge during this time. Thankfully he was able to course correct in 2005, otherwise he was probably going to burn out.

I just remember he went from having his Rob Zombie to back to his old theme and for a while the old attire. The new attire was fine. But he lost his character than got him over on Smackdown prior. The more comedy style that worked. Thank god his heel turn as Rated R changed it all.
