I wouldn't be surprised if this was just an angle and we got a match between them. I agree that their ceiling is higher together as a tag team than as solo wrestlers though. I get that for many, being a solo wrestler is more prestigious but I don't think that's even true in AEW. Some of the most over acts in AEW are tag teams and although the division hasn't been as well-presented recently as it has in the past, you can't argue that guys like the Acclaimed, FTR, and the Young Bucks are overlooked. Would they set up a feud via social media though? It wouldn't be the first time wrestlers have done it. They're not even the only AEW wrestlers trying it right now as Emi Sakura and Saraya seem to be as well. It might be something they're trying to manifest or something they're trying to add heat to.

If Santana wants to work singles, well, let's see what he's got. AEW is giving him a chance to do it, now it's on him to sink or swim. His Rampage vignettes have been a decent start, at least.
Just hope this social media stuff with him and Ortiz is a work and they aren't legit beefing.

Surely a work just purely because of the fact this wouldn't be the first time Ortiz has heard that Santana wants to go solo, that ones been reported for quite a long time hasn't it? And things like Santana returning to his own music, after Ortiz, and wearing very different ring gear to him sort of reinforces the point. Both men will surely be well aware of the plans for them, just can't picture Ortiz sat at home and seeing that vignette and thinking "well this is the first I've heard of it!'" like Homer Simpson when Marge leaves for her Streetcar audition. They might still have some heat IRL but this feels like a definite work to me.

If Santana purely wants to take a stab at a singles run then I’ve got to respect that, he’s backing himself so let’s see.
Ortiz was one of my boys during the early days of Dynamite but man I dunno, just doesn’t seem to have the same energy to his (admittedly limited) on-screen time these days. Perhaps injuries or the tag breakup affecting him

So something I found interesting: there’s a dude on one of Ortiz’s Instagram posts who was all “I don’t know how you and Santana weren’t ever tag champs, Tony dropped the ball on you guys” to which Ortiz replied “it wasn’t Tony, it was mistakes we both made along the way.” Not sure if that’s kayfabe or an indication the issues between the two have been going on longer than people thought.

Well even after All In SRS has maintained that Santana and Ortiz are not on speaking terms. Reading between the lines, it very much became a situation of Santana being very difficult to work with and Ortiz being the peace keeper.

It's unfortunate, but not without precedent.
I am glad they could set it aside for a match, but it sucks that there is bad blood here.

They know that if they go full CM Punk they are fired right away....

I take anything CM Punk's media lapdog says with a grain of salt.

Can then go one week….
With out any shoot nonsense in this company?
If it is a work it’s twice as dumb.

If it's legit, that's both a shame and unnecessary. It's a shame to see friends fall out like that and unnecessary to air in public. That's definitely the kind of stuff that AEW needs to crack down on when it's legit heat.

If it's legit, it sucks, and it should be left off socials
But hell if I'm trusting Hausman as a source anymore.

See that is always my thing when people call for these public outcries to be works as they look even more silly to be something that people thought were good ideas "to work the fans"... It's so wild (and this is across the board) how much stuff is just brushed aside, connected, or taken completely out of context under the guise of it being a work. I am not sure there is another fanbase that has less of a clear view of what they are watching regularly than pro wrestling fans....This is the fans, the news, and even the wrestlers themselves don't even seem to be able to read each other now a days... Maybe that is the selling point after all

How would CM Punk have any idea whether it’s a work or a shoot?

I take anything CM Punk's media lapdog says with a grain of salt. This is the same dude that wrote an article claiming that Rush brought Jose the Assistant and Preston Vance with him to Triplemania without notifying Dorian Roldan first, got fact checked by both Jose AND Rush, and still insisted that his sources were correct. Hausman is about as reliable as a three-wheeled car.

Still makes no sense to be if it's a shoot, genuinely can't wrap my head around Ortiz not knowing Santana was going solo but whatever.
I don't think it's "even more stupid if it's a work" though. That was definitely always true of the Brawl Out stuff, it made the company look really bad and I never saw any upside of it being a work, or any logic, but would this Santana/Ortiz exchange be any worse than what Emi and Saraya are doing, if it were a work?

To be fair we ve been hearing about a falling out between the two for a while now. Going back to last year

It'll be an interesting experiment if nothing else. Santana isn't inherently bad, far from it in fact, but it's hard to see where he excels, especially against the rest of the roster. He's good in the ring, but so is everyone else these days. He can cut a decent promo, but doesn't have the character or magnesium others have and his look is decent enough, but doesn't scream superstar either. Which reminds me, is it just me, or has he got a bit of a Polynesian vibe going on that he didn't have previously?
