I feel like he’s damned if he does damned if he doesn’t in AEW. LAX never got the tag push they should have. They were Jericho lackeys who got big spots when Jericho’s stories demanded it. As a single he’s not going anywhere there either. But if he doesn’t want to have to be around Ortiz anymore it’s better to go nowhere alone than nowhere with him. The Inner Circle really was a gift and curse for PnP They got LOADS of TV time and usually won, but they were never positioned as top contenders in the actual Tag Team division. Before he got injured, Santana actually WAS getting some good solo moments to shine. I actually thought Ortiz was the more entertaining of the 2

I just don't see a lot of room for Santana as a solo act. I could be mistaken, I mean I do have in my username that I'm wrong, but I just don't see him getting too much traction.

Still makes no sense to be if it's a shoot, genuinely can't wrap my head around Ortiz not knowing Santana was going solo but whatever. I don't think it's "even more stupid if it's a work" though. That was definitely always true of the Brawl Out stuff, it made the company look really bad and I never saw any upside of it being a work, or any logic, but would this Santana/Ortiz exchange be any worse than what Emi and Saraya are doing, if it were a work? To be fair we ve been hearing about a falling out between the two for a while now. Going back to last year Yeah I don't doubt they have had, and probably still do have, heat, but around the time of some of those reports they were also saying Santana wanted to go solo weren't they? That's what I mean with my surprise about Ortiz being taken off guard with Santana doing a worked promo saying he's not going to be in a team anymore. Also seems strange to bring back Santana and Ortiz in the same match and have them not feud or be a team either, like why bring both in? Just seems an awkward thing to do. Bizarre situation really.

Meltzer touched on this a bit on today’s show.
He basically said Santana is very serious about making this solo run work, while Ortiz is happy to be making the life-changing money he is and doesn’t mind not being featured right now.

Still sucks this mentality has like fractured their friendship. It's ok to feel differently, but this feels like they've both gone to either end of the extreme.

That's been the vibe for a while. Problem is, Santana is not making new friends to make up for the people he cut off. It takes more than talent to be a top guy.

That's how it be. Some folks want to keep going higher in their personal career, other folks are just happy to be making a damn good living without all the travel the indies would require. Neither guy is wrong. Just unfortunate they had to come to this crossroads when they still have so much juice as a team, imo.

Right, and honestly, if Ortiz felt he HAD been used well in the Inner Circle, that'd also be valid. Yeah, I'd have loved them as tag champs (Uno/Grayson and Best Friends also should have become tag champs, too, to be frank), but the two were on TV quite a lot, and won a whole lot more often than they lost. I get why Santana would want more, but I can also absolutely see why Ortiz would be satisfied.

I mean, it's really not surprising given how, for an accomplished tag team supposedly reuniting in the match, they didn't interact AT ALL during Stadium Stampede. That, and them pushing the Mike Santana name change hard, but Ortiz didn't get his first name to match him.

They DID interact a bit though, did some double team moves But I guess it's still a broken friendship which sucks.

How hard is it that they reunite for a few weeks n then one turns on another and have a blood feud which elevates both, fulfills both their wishes and we can see who breaks out as the Shawn?

If they're already not getting along personally, I don't know if that's a fire you want to play with in putting them in a feud together.

Looking back it seemed pretty clear that PNP vs FTR was originally supposed to lead to PNP getting the tag titles at the first Grand Slam show but things changed real quick. I wonder if that's when the issues really started

Which is reeeeealllly dumb because wrestling is a medium where there's got to be an understood level of trust to take care of one another.
Unless Tony wants a scenario where someone gets pissy and pulls a Sexy Star

There are a lot of times where people can put aside any personal differences and be professional in the ring. Not sure if Santana and Ortiz are at that point.
