The non Disney animated movies of the eighties like American Tail or the Land Before Time. They made a big splash, spawned sequel after sequel and are barely ever referenced now. Seriously The Land Before Time spawned a dozen sequels and an animated series but nobody talks about it. I loved the land before time but I only found out recently there were loads of sequels and I’m glad I never saw them. The land before time is a masterpiece.

I think the only thing that people like about the Land Before Time sequels is Chomper the baby Sharptooth...and he is only in two films and the series IIRC.

Blondie's film series had 28 films between 1938 to 1950. How many of you knew that until I mentioned this? I actually did know that, but I just learned about them in the past couple years

I loved the first two "Major League" movies as a kid and yet don't care about the franchise. "Hot Shots!" is a similar case and coincidentally both feature Charlie Sheen. Major League is an absolute classic. Major League II is decent because of Uecker (sp). Major League: Back to The Minors is a steaming pile of dogsh*t that should never be viewed. I walked out of a dollar movie theater after about a half hour. It is so f'ing bad. Jack Parkman is also one of the good things in Major League II.

I haven't seen Police Academy mentioned or referenced for decades. They seem largely forgotten. American Pie and many of the 90s/early 2000s teen movies, I can't see connecting with today's teens at all. And will likely be forgotten. I gave American Pie a rewatch last year, I still enjoyed it. It absolutely doesn't hold up to modern "thinking", but the American Pie series (minus the some of the direct to DVD offshoots) is great. Even the less than stellar (the last two, IMO) still had some fun parts. Police Academy is a good example. I never hear anyone talk about this. I bought the blu-ray box sent and get through the first two and haven't gone back. The first one is solid, but the second was rough. I remember liking it a lot more when I was younger than I did when I last watched it. I have a feeling it only gets "worse". LOL Police Academy 4 is where I'd stop. Though, I do like those fights at the end of Part 6.

All those "Not Another X Movie" or "Scary/Epic/(insert name here) Movie" type parodies seem to have been mostly flushed from the collective consciousness of humanity outside of the 2 that were pretty funny and good. And I might as well say Girls Gone Wild volumes 1 thru 14,007. Those were all the rage for a while. What were the two good ones? I liked Not Another Teen movie and Scary Movie 1 and 2. The only other ones I remember seeing were Scary Movie 3 and 4 which were a nosedive in quality. Also, I think I tried to watch Epic Movie once, but got interrupted then had no desire to go back and finish it.

I was going to say Scary Movie 1,2 and probably Not Another Teen Movie.

I was bored and was having trouble finding what to watch so I watched it. I chuckled and still found it funny. I have still never seen any of the Scary Movie franchise.

The Universal Monsters, in a way. Like Drac and Frankenstein are still mentioned but never as actual movie monsters, they've been parodied into being jokes for ages now, especially those from that franchise from the 30s-50s

Highlander, but it kind of had it coming when people ever ask me "what is the worst film you've ever seen?" the inevitable answer is always "Highlander: The Source aka Highlander 5" that somehow managed to make the second Highlander film seem good in comparison, it's that bad that even die hard fans of the franchise all agree that the series should have ended at the fourth film. one of the forgotten Gremlins rip off series of films " Critters which the third film helped unleash Leonardo DiCaprio on the acting world.

The Cheech and Chong films are kind of forgotten now too, for various reasons.

Even with the Steve Martin reboots, it feels like the Pink Panther has largely faded from a lot of cultural memory. People who discover them (at least with ones with Peter Sellers) seem to like them, but they've not retained the same contemporary exposure as say the Monty Python films have.

But as a little kid in the 90's with only a handful of VHS tapes that were rated for kids, wasn't much else to watch.

Naked Gun Police Academy Ernest Goes to... Problem Child Honey I Shrunk the.... Ernest is not forgotten. Ernest will never be forgotten. Going old school, The Thin Man was a detective movie that came out in 1934. Between then and 1947 it had five sequels made. Nowadays I imagine only hardcore old-timey film buffs would've ever heard of it and it doesn't seem like anybody in Hollywood is considering a reboot anytime soon. Agreed that he will never be forgotten though I am biased because my father reminded me tremendously of Ernest (down to the chops and denim) and I also will champion the fight of Cena as Ernest until it is made.

Police Academy 4 is where I'd stop. Though, I do like those fights at the end of Part 6. I have to agree. I actually don't really like the ensemble from the first movie, in all honesty they did a great job cutting the fat, with the except of Fackler, who somehow made it to the 2nd and 3rd movies. People remember this movie for Mahoney, Jones, Hightower, Hooks, Tackleberry and Harris. The second movie is slightly better in my opinion. It gets away from the Animal House structure a little more, and like I mentioned they cut the fat for the most part. I actually think Mauser and Proctor were better than Harris, Blankes and Copeland. This movie also has my favorite gag in the series that I still can't help but laugh at...and that is the poxy resin in the shampoo bottle, which leads to the hairy hands and the bad wig. The gift that keeps on giving. Also, I like both Zed and Sweetchuck, and glad there's a formal bad guy in this movie. Third movie is terrible. Bloated cast and no memorable gags. This movie is the one I think gets the least airplay and I don't remember much about it. The fourth movie is great. Zed and Sweetchuck are officially officers now, Fackler is gone...this was the perfect cast overall. It was a shame to see Mauser go, but Proctor works very well with Harris, who ups his ability in this one. And come on...it's funnier that the megaphone gets glued to his mouth instead of a stupid ink circle from the first one. Copeland was unneeded, but he gets a tiny Fast Times at Ridgemont High Reunion with Brian Backer. David Spade's stunt double was Tony Hawk, which is funny. Love the gag where Proctor's portapotty is delivered to the baseball game during the National Anthem. The fifth movie is okay. It definitely feels like the soul is lost without Mahoney...and even Zed and Sweetchuck. House gets promoted, but he is a complete waste of time. René Auberjonois does his best as the bad guy, but the only entertaining part for me was Tackleberry pointing the gun at the shark. The sixth movie is bad. Fackler is back for some reason. I remember taping this off TV for some reason, and almost immediately taping over it. The seventh movie flat out is terrible. Not that Nick Lassard was good, but that little guy from Diagnosis Murder was a downgrade. Hooks and Hightower are gone. Just was just depressing to watch, and I remember hating this movie as a kid, at a time when I loved every other movie.

The Land Before Time I'd say counts here
There are 14 films, but only one has been made in the last 16 years, Journey of the Brave in 2016
Before that the original classic exists but they pumped out those direct to video movies like a faucet, I should know, I was a kid that watched a lot of them lol
