The Universal Monsters, in a way. Like Drac and Frankenstein are still mentioned but never as actual movie monsters, they've been parodied into being jokes for ages now, especially those from that franchise from the 30s-50s Admittedly its a niche audience, but they still get plenty of play from horror movie fans and conventions, even the ones that are dedicated to more modern horror characters like Jason and Freddy.

It absolutely doesn't hold up to modern "thinking", but the American Pie series (minus the some of the direct to DVD offshoots) is great. Even the less than stellar (the last two, IMO) still had some fun parts. Police Academy is a good example. I never hear anyone talk about this. I bought the blu-ray box sent and get through the first two and haven't gone back. The first one is solid, but the second was rough. I remember liking it a lot more when I was younger than I did when I last watched it. I have a feeling it only gets "worse". LOL Yep, I enjoyed them when I gave them a watch. I actually liked Wedding and Reunion more than I did American Pie 2.

Since Andy Hardy, The Thin Man, and Blondie were mentioned, there were a lot of other long-running franchises back in the black-and-white era that are all but forgotten today. You had detective series like The Falcon, The Saint, Bulldog Drummond, and Boston Blackie, as well as comedy series like Ma & Pa Kettle and The Dead End Kids (later known as The East Side Kids, The Little Tough Guys, and The Bowery Boys). There was also this entire unfortunate subgenre of mystery series featuring problematic Asian stereotypes which included Charlie Chan, Mr. Moto, Mr. Wong, and Fu Manchu.
Also, since someone brought up the Universal Monsters, most people are familiar with the big guns of the franchise like Dracula, Frankenstein, and the Wolf Man, but the Wild Woman and Inner Sanctum films are pretty obscure even among horror aficionados.
Then if you move into the color era, you get stuff like the Hercules series and its Italian counterpart Maciste, the Beach Party series and its many knockoffs, and the Zatoichi series from Japan.

The Land Before Time I'd say counts here There are 14 films, but only one has been made in the last 16 years, Journey of the Brave in 2016 Before that the original classic exists but they pumped out those direct to video movies like a faucet, I should know, I was a kid that watched a lot of them lol The first one is the only one that counts.

Naked Gun Police Academy Ernest Goes to... Problem Child Honey I Shrunk the.... Ernest is not forgotten. Ernest will never be forgotten. Going old school, The Thin Man was a detective movie that came out in 1934. Between then and 1947 it had five sequels made. Nowadays I imagine only hardcore old-timey film buffs would've ever heard of it and it doesn't seem like anybody in Hollywood is considering a reboot anytime soon. They actually got rereleased on DVD probably 5 years ago as a box set much to my surprise.

Even with the Steve Martin reboots, it feels like the Pink Panther has largely faded from a lot of cultural memory. People who discover them (at least with ones with Peter Sellers) seem to like them, but they've not retained the same contemporary exposure as say the Monty Python films have. When Hollywood Video came to my area, it seemed like they had a bunch of movies I never saw before. The Panther movies were a few of them. I laughed so hard at Peter Sellers' accent and antics. I watched them all and many times. The scene were he gets groceries and they bust out of the bag is one of my favorites. In 2016, some movie channel played Martin's version every few days-if not every day. I watched it as much as I could and would watch it every day if I could and it would never get old. I watched one Peter movie since then and it fell flat to me. Peter Sellers may have made Clouseau but Steve Martin claimed it as his own in 2016 (though #2 was just awful-not Martin's fault). I think Steve is just a once in a lifetime type actor/comedian and he made the role special to me. I think as silly as Sellers was, I felt like he was a serious guy pretending to be silly whereas Martin's character was the absolute dunce. And everyone has to have worked with someone like this who takes themselves seriously and everything they do it done wrong.

The Airport movies from the ‘70s.
Airplane, the parody of those movies, is much more widely known and acclaimed today.

I liked quite a lot of the direct to video ones and a lot of other kids did too I guess because they pumped them out for like a decade plus So I have to say it was a popular franchise lol I think the original was the first or one of the first movies I ever saw in theatre. Don't recall a thing, I just know I did. But then I aged up and the D2V sequels started pouring out and I knew it was something I hated.

The Airport movies from the ‘70s. Airplane, the parody of those movies, is much more widely known and acclaimed today. The thing is that Airplane! basically took the plot, characters, a noticeable amount of dialog, and specific shots from Zero Hour!, then peppered in Airport references before making it all classically absurd.

Conan the barbarian, had 2 films in the 80s.Then 2 cartoons and a live action show in the 90s. And for a bit Marvel was publishing 3 Conan comics.
Now pretty much forgotten outside of comic circles.

Have to Say I really like Police Academy 3, much more that Police Academy 2. It had more structure, Zed and Sweetchuck are in training and there is a better finish with the jet ski and marina chase/robbery.

I don't know that I'd necessarily say forgotten since they keep trying to make it a thing but in terms of a series with no real cultural cache left, they have been trying and trying and trying to further milk Terminator since 2 and every installment since has made less money than the one prior (Genisys being an exception granted, though it does still apply domestically), all of them have at best broken even, and even with them throwing everything they possibly could behind marketing Dark Fate including sticking it in Mortal Kombat and Gears of War no one cared. Feels like a series where the only thing keeping it on anyone's radar is the fact they keep trying to milk it when nobody actually wants more of it.

Witchcraft, for a series with 16 films you never hear any talk about them. The franchise made a mistake by insisting everything needed to be about William Spanner and not continuing to do Lutz solo movies after Mistress of the Craft.

There was the Momoa reboot in the 2000s too, and Kull the Conqueror in the 90s was a spinoff intended to be a Conan movie, but Arnie passed and Kevin Sorbo didn't want to play that character.
