At this point, I sort of expect Roman Reign's title run to outlast me, let alone wrestling records.

This is all Shawn Michaels' fault. That boyhood dream shit f***ed up a generation.

NOTE: THIS IS NOT A MOD RULE OR MANDATE. IT'S JUST ME SPITBALLING. DON'T TAKE THIS SUPER SERIOUS.But for real, he said he wanted to be at the "Head OF The Table." He's joined TKO and done just that. He made a slight tease at Roman and everyone automatically wants to turn Cody into the new Daniel Bryan, forever underutilized and a certain blown opportunity on behalf of the Evil Empire that is WWE. (Despite that Bryan was actually booked insanely strong throughout that whole run.) Now, personally? I'd have Rock challenge Roman at Perth. If I can get any Rock match, it's at effing Mania. I think WWE delaying the match is a *bad* idea. If I have the book, I finish the Cody story with him pinning Rock for the belts, and that's to set up Cody/Roman III with Cody defending at ideally Summerslam this year. But sadly, I think they might delay it for like the Netflix premiere or something. Either way, Cody isn't Daniel Bryan and Danielson wasn't even Daniel Bryan. He was never in a bad position, Cody was never in a bad position. Can we still discuss Bitchhalla?

I'd still bet money on Cody walking out of Mania this year as champion, as WWE has a history of giving the fans the ending they want, even if it takes too long to get there, to at least ensure a positive buzz at the end of Wrestlemania, last year being an exception that becomes more logical in retrospect (not a *good* decision, mind, just a more logical one) if Cody wins a rematch this year. They didn't want to risk things like fans turning against the show when Bryan was kept out of the main event or if they hadn't pushed Kofi hard to the title, so I don't think they'll risk it, here. That all said, man, it just makes shit so much tougher when you kind of train your audience to think that really significant things can only happen at one show a year; the drum beat of "gotta save that for Wrestlemania" feels more like a liability at times than an asset...though I suppose it's an asset given how much money those shows make, so what do I know. I absolutely think it was a good (and logical) decision. Business being on the upswing, Roman as champ bringing in ratings, Cody’s momentum and fan support growing exponentially more than it was before their match. I was devastated. I hated it at the time. Time has shown it was the clever call. I do agree that I’d bet Cody gets his moment at this one. I’d like to think so but can’t say I’m certain.

Yeah while I didn’t like it and it totally turned me off for a few weeks (mostly cause it seemed like Vince was back in charge the next nighy), I see some logic in it. Cody just came back, had a couple of months injured so he avoided a couple months of build up, won the rumble at number 30, and essentially was guaranteed a wrestlemania main event spot. Some people would say it was too easy and handed to him. Waiting a year and going through more obstacles, makes it seem more like he earned it in wwe fans’ eyes. Also it’s at wrestlemania 40, and it’s America’s birthplace, home of the liberty bell and his daughter is named Liberty Rhodes

It seems like the SI guy watched Raw, saw Seth/Gunther and Cody/Punk promos and somehow took that to mean they were the Mania matches rather than just promos used to create intrigue for the Rumble match. Those matches never made sense to me. Down the line sure but not for Mania 40.

WM40, appropriately enough, will be Cody's Rocky II, where he gets the rematch against the champ and comes out on top.

I meant potentially “not good” creatively; both Cody and Roman immediately transitioned into stories that really made little sense given the outcome of the match but would’ve been logical had Cody won the belt. It’s worked out for them, yes, since WWE has done a much better job of late getting people to just enjoy the top characters on the shows and keep them over that way, but the actual storytelling involved is pretty shoddy (e.g. Brock attacking Cody only really made sense if Cody was champ, or if Brock was testing Cody to see if he *really* could beat Roman, but they opted for neither).

So when does Cody retire and run a diner, only to get back into the ring after he sees a video of AI Cody beating AI Nick Wayne?

So when does Cody retire and run a diner, only to get back into the ring after he sees a video of AI Cody beating AI Nick Wayne? Right before the one where Cody trains an up and comer named Maxwell Friedman who gets a bit too cocky and is taken in by the arrogant manager, Stokely Hathaway.

Well my interest in the main event of Wrestlemania plummeted. At least I'll be able to go to bed early on Sunday night.

So Cody wins at EC with Rock's help and Rock/Roman happens with no belt.
OK then. Not how I would have done it but whatever.
