Cody Rhodes is winning at WrestleMania and we’re about to get clubbed over the head with it until then. When he does, it’ll be a big moment and hopefully they know what’s next, cause I kinda feel it could fall pretty flat. Cody's actual title run doesn't have to be a super-long one. Have a few good defenses and then drop it by the fall of 2024. The way they’ve had him eliminate Gunther two years in a row in similar fashion makes me think one day that man’s going to absolutely decimate Cody.

Not as excited about the Cody vs Roman story this year as I was last year. Last year, the story had everything that made it tailor-made for it to be a masterpiece in storytelling. Cody winning then would've been the chef's kiss as a Hollywood storybook ending to finish the story.
This time around, it feels more like "Ok, let's finish the story already".

He's been the company's top babyface and hasn't lost any momentum, even throughout last year's flirtation with Bitchalla.
I say finish the story, build up Rock/Roman for another show (WM41?) and move along. No need for Roman's title reign to keep going.

I really hope they lean into how Heyman and Reigns were selling it like they were genuinely scared over Cody winning, given how all too often they'll tease at that kind of thing just to immediately slingshot back to, "Roman's going to rip your head off and use it to play fetch with your dog," shit.

I'd be OK with Heyman saying that exact line if it somehow led to Pharaoh biting Roman.

I’ll say, I think the crowds more invested now then they were then. You rewatch the build up of Roman Cody 1 and Roman came off looking better in a lot of those promos, and I don’t think by design. They’ve got to nail the landing as far as building it up this time, but to your point, I think there will be more fervor now.

That pyro for a middle of the pack Rumble entrance means that he's a delusional heel who thinks he's a face, right? That's where we thought he was going in AEW, but no, dude just seems to genuinely think that having the most over-the-top, in-your-face entrance possible is good babyface presentation. I've said it before on the AEW board, but Cody seems like he wants to be the humble, "grandson of a plumber"-type common man, with all the trappings of a wheeling-dealing, ostentatious Ric Flair type, without acknowledging that those two character archetypes don't mesh well.

Honestly I'm wondering what Cody could possibly hit him with to win at this point that wouldn't feel like an anticlimax, given the elbow and two Cross Rhodes last year was shrugged off immediately.

Here’s my guess: Jimmy comes out to help Roman but gets taken out by Jey, Solo comes out to help but is stopped by Rock. Cody hits his CrossRhodes twice and it’s nearly over, until Gunther comes out to stop the count. He chops the shit out of Cody and then Roman hits a spear for the finish. It turns out Gunther’s great grandfather had an affair with a Samoan woman and he’s part bloodline! He brings his jobbers with so Jimmy and Solo don’t need to be bitch of the week for awhile.

As for the winner, and match, it's fine. I was bored by the end of it, and was like "will one of you just win already?!" That's more for not caring about either one, it was like the "opposite Bayley effect".

Just imagine nine years on from 2015 and a smug guest referee Rock gives Reigns the assist at 'Mania, and in raising Roman's arm the crowd shower them with boos at 'Mania, this time he knows EXACTLY what the reason is... LONG TERM BOOKING!

Still should have been one and done on this last year.
If there's one thing I hate, it's predicability. And this is pretty much Roman is losing at Mania levels of predictable.
Unless.....

I think he was going for a third Cross Rhodes before Solo caught him with the spike and I thought Roman sold it well after his win IMO. As for this year, Roman has got to lose otherwise Cody's finished as a face. You can't have your top face lose back to back Mania's challenging for the WWE title.

We badly need a ‘no interference’ rule for the Mania match. Aldis looks like the type of GM that could make that happen. They won’t though just to add the intrigue as to whether Cody can fight off Solo this time or not.

Have Cody challenge at EC so Rock can get the WM match and Roman can get to SummerSlam or Saudi or something. Cody's missing that something now. A climb back up, a major set back, an obstacle that haunted him, something that makes this time mean more. Too much holding pattern and it hurt him, imo. I can’t comment directly on the product since I don’t watch it week to week, but it did seem odd to me just how directionless Cody seemed for much of the year when I’d read results; a lot of repetitive Raw main events against Judgment Day, no real obstacles back up the mountain, etc. And again, the stories he and Roman got post-WM last year really felt inverted, like they only made sense if Cody had won the title. Fans still seem very much behind so no harm, I guess, but it kind of read like he and Roman could’ve just taken the year off between Manias (I know, the Jey storyline, but Roman’s matches remain the same). But if they’re serious about this, they have to have Cody win at Mania. If they don’t, he’s toast from a kayfabe/fan’s perspective, and I think you run a real risk of even Roman fans starting to turn against that title reign.
