the Tremors franchise became the Burt Gummer experience from the 2nd movie onwards, I like the character and the actor but the series did become "Burt has problem, Burt fixes it."
Timecop had a sequel & tv series.
R.I.P.D. got a sequel/prequel.
30 days of night got a sequel.

American Psycho 2.
Did that chick from That 70s Show ever make it? I hear her Dad tells her to shut up all the time.

Jingle All the Way getting a sequel 18 years after the fact that had Larry the Cable Guy, Brian Stepanek, and Santino Marella playing the Arnold Schwarzenegger, Phil Hartman, and Sinbad roles is the craziest one I can think of off the top of my head.

RoboCop 3 is sort of closer to the Predator/Terminator mould of the budget being there, but with a much lower-status star to replace Peter Weller.
The Crow got three sequels, two of which were straight-to-DVD, with progressively lower-rent casts, plus a really cheap Canadian-made TV series. The new movie starring Bill Skarsgård may or may not buck the trend, but considering filming wrapped in 2022, it's supposed to be released sometime this year and almost nothing is known about it, I'm not confident.
Starship Troopers has two low budget sequels, though Casper van Dien returned for the third movie.

two films where I'm surprised there is a franchise
there is four Jarhead films and three The Skulls films.
the original film was low budget but there is a sequel to Donnie Darko called S. Darko, where his youngest sister returns (played by Daveigh Chase), it is incredibly boring

Those straight-to-video sequels were bad, but I would watch the third one again before watching the second one.

I'm always surprised cracked is still around, every time they build the website/youtube channel back up, everyone is let go or quits. It's happened like three times.

Does animation count? Recently I learned that FernGully made a direct-to-video sequel and every part was re-cast. And not even re-cast with quality VA's. The only name in it I've heard of is Matt Miller and like the bulk of the cast don't even warrant Wikipedia pages.

George of the Jungle 2 had the new guy straight up say he was there because the studio was too cheap to pay Brendan Fraser.
Knowing the kinda makes me want to check it out.

Someone tried to get a Cruel Intentions TV series off the ground, and then when it didn't get picked up simply sold the pilot as Cruel Intentions 2, which also got a sequel.
Do we count the Dick Tracy Specials that Warren Beatty made to prevent Disney from getting the rights to the character? They obviously have the star, but the budgets were, what? A pack of gum and the loose change in the back of Beatty's couch?
Beatty actually went to the courts to ensure they were legally classified as sequels so he would keep the rights until the character becomes public domain in 2027.

Behind Enemy Lines was a 2001 war film starring Owen Wilson and Gene Hackman. It has 3 sequels that star neither of them (the third one has Mr. Kennedy from WWE in it).

The worst one of these I’ve seen was the WWE produced Leprechaun film…until I watched Showgirls 2: Penny’s from Heaven.
I actually watched the WWE Leprechaun film more than once. That’s the reason I have to admit Showgirls 2 is worse. I’m sure there are some set of circumstances where I would watch it again…but I’m having a hard time coming up with them. I can only recommend Showgirls 2 if you’re like me and seek out the truly worst stuff around. I’m not talking fun bad movies, like the original Showgirls. I’m talking movies that make you wish the process of filmmaking was never conceived.

Not quite, having seen it, it's wholly unconnected in any way, shape or form to the original Jingle All the Way. It's a wholly different script they just slapped an IP's name on, like the Belly sequel.

Has there ever been a low-budget sequel with the main expensive cast dropped that has actually been good?
All I can think of is Lion King 2. It was a massive drop on the original one, but was still a decent enough film.
