So the context was Triple H was asked about Drew Gulak being released by WWE during the Backlash Press conference. And in doing so also took aim at Fightful and PWlnsider: “First of all, if you’re gonna cite news sources, pick good ones." PWInsider said the following: Sean Ross Sapp meanwhile: So what's weird here is that apparently someone inside WWE apologized to both PWI and Fightful. But some people on Twitter want a public apology from Triple H himself to both of them. Then there is another side who is happy Triple H dunked on them. Since it feels like WWE works with Fightful somehow in terms of leaks at time, was this just all blown up from a agitated Triple H having to answer the Gulak question? Did this become bigger than it didn't have to? Does one side or both sides need to show more accountability and responsibility when reporting news now?

They inflate those kind of sites too much, I liked it better when they ignored them.

What on earth would Triple H apologise for? Good grief. He can trash them all he wants if he thinks they're spreading shit

I do find it very different how guys like Woj in basketball is basically a dirtsheet kind of guy for basketball yet he's on the official panel of the NBA on ESPN.
That would be like Sean Ross Sapp being a panel person on the WWE countdown shows.
It's odd how one sport accepts news breakers and puts them on their official shows. The other sees them as pests and puts them down. I do sometimes wonder why they can't have a more cordial relationship like Woj does with the NBA.

If Triple H wants to trash the news sites that attempt to spoil storylines and leak shit that he doesn’t want out there then I don’t blame him lol. PWInsider handled it well but SRS is acting like a baby

Yeah. I enjoy Fightful's scoops, but pretty much the entire Fightful team as people are pretty unpleasant with how much they get worked up over everything. I know SRS has been spending the past 12 hours doing nothing but lashing out at others on social media and just generally being a prick about it.

Upon being asked about his thoughts on Rajah news, HHH is reported as saying that he may or may not hold them in utter contempt.

If you trash them in public and then apologize in private…which HHH DID…you have to take your homer hats off and recognize that’s bullshit. If you k ow you were wrong to the point of contrition…the contrition needs to be as public as the burial.
Fightful didn’t even report what the question attributed to them. Blasting where someone gets their sources while you yourself are basing your response on a bad source of information is embarrassing. I don’t care how much you hate news sites…it’s bullshit and HHH knew it to the point of contacting them to apologize for it.
And he never answered the actual part of the question that mattered. He used a technicality on release vs renewal to dodge the entire accusation and investigation. Because covering that up is totally the right way to handle a post Vince company they want to sell as being better now. Right?
Or do you just hate the dirt sheets enough to ignore every actual part of all this? Ask yourself that. And if it’s yes…try again.

If Tony Khan did the same thing, you know Dave Scherer would be having a Phil Mushnick-style meltdown over it. What a sycophant. He's lucky a stand up guy like Mike Johnson works for him.

Nobody ever tries to talk shit about the Wrestling Observer (takes directed at Meltzer excepted), and with good reason.

Exactly. Especially since the story wasn’t something either source reported, they just added context to News Nation’s interview with Ronda Rousey. If you’re trying to smooth things over afterwards, you clearly f***ed up when it happened. And not being funny, who were the people giving stories to Fightful and PWInsider about the free agent negotiations and Drew Gulak’s own reputation in the PC? Because they didn’t get that from thin air and WWE hasn’t gone out of their way to deny any of that.

I feel like I'm still not sure what happened here. I do know HHH is the absolute worst at PR but am a bit confused.

I feel like I'm still not sure what happened here. I do know HHH is the absolute worst at PR but am a bit confused. Someone asked Hunter at the post show scrum about Gulak being gone from WWE and framed it as PWInsider and Fightful reporting it as because Ronda Rousey called him out as a pervert which neither did. Hunter told the guy he needed better sources because Ronda had nothing to do with it, they chose not to renew his deal. This sent the tribalism marks into a frenzy attacking Fightful, SRS and PWInsider. In reality WWE works with them regularly and openly so WWE PR jumped in to apologize to them. It seems it is one of those age old deals where a crap reporter frames something as from a good site when it is their theory or comes from an editorial instead of the actual news and Hunter took the bait.

Are fans actually angry over this? It seems like such a minor issue. I can understand talk over WWE actually acknowledging news outlets, but it seems like casual shit talk at most.

To be slightly fair to the reporter, English wasn’t his first language so the wording might have not come out as intended. It might have done for all we know but we have to consider that in these things, especially since the show was in France.

It’s more, like, he shouldn’t be casually shit talking. If we’re talking about Dijak or someone else on the roster, hey, have at it, who cares? HHH is not only the head of creative but also the vice president of talent relations so not only has a connection with PR to talk to different publications and mediums, he’s also basically the most powerful person concerning the product itself not named Nick Khan. This is stuff that feels so basic to not do. And the worst thing is, this has been happening at least since last year’s WrestleMania and nobody has thought for a second to give him some kind of PR training? I’ve seen football managers being bashed for days for doing less.
