I have an honset question. Lets say it was the 360 who was doing this and doing all the same things sony is. How many of you would be bashing Microsoft and all X-box stuff left and right?
(Note i have nothing wrong with 360's)

If the XBox 360 cost $600, you'd better believe I'd be bashing it.
And let me state for the record that I haven't bought any of the three consoles. I'm going to go through E3 stuff this weekend and make my decisions based on that.

And then, they started being idiots, and made the price way too unreasonable. The hate isn't because of WHO they are, but what they keep doing. Jed Shaffer ~And I did it to Sega in their dying days, and I was a DIE-HARD Sega fan.

I would be on Microsoft in a heartbeat. People aren't hating Sony cause they're Sony, it's because they've seemingly lost touch with their fanbase and don't seem to realize that there's more to gaming than just the hardcore audience.

But ever think that this might be there off system like the GameCube was? I mean yea its bad but it can be just a bad system, they will bounce back, Either it be in a year with this system or a handfull eith the next, Sony will be back up there.

Also, guys, unless everyone stops buying PS3s all together, the system isn't a failure, just....VERY much in last place.
The Wii is the new PlayStation, in terms of it being cheap, good, but weaker than opponents' graphics, and is selling hella fast. The 360 is the new PlayStation in terms of getting 3rd parties.
If anything, Sony will become what Nintendo was last gen, the niche market of the console race. They'll have great 1st party titles, but only a hand ful of exclusive 3rd party titles.

The only problem with that is Gamecube was just outclassed (even though I loved it, and liked it more then my PS2) but Nintendo weren't acting like out and out idiots.
They still had a stratagy and didn't overcharge and basicly tell you to like it.

All of this is well said. The big difference, though, is that Sony may have a difficult time bouncing back with the PS4 simply due to the inhibitive cost of the PS3. With nobody buying the consoles, that's less people buying the games, and it puts more pressure on them to succeed in the future with the next console. Sega lost tons of money in a similar way (by flooding the market with shit console after shit console, bleeding their fan base dry and not selling games) and despite the awesomeness of the Dreamcast couldn't bounce back.

The Xbox never made a profit, and the 360 isn't making a profit, and those both sold over 10 million units. So profit doesn't decide if a system was a success or failure, they just need to sell. The problem with SEGA and 3DO was that they were GAME COMPANIES, video games was their only way of making money. This is true with Nintendo as well, but they make piles of cash. Sony and Microsoft can have a system that makes no profit, and it wouldn't affect them, as they have several other means of making money. Sony can never fail, just come in last place, and this isn't defending them, it is the truth. Now, unless Sony somehow loses billions in all its divisions, Sony will continue to make PlayStations.

Regardless, hardcore gamers would likely go for the 360 over the Wii any day of the week (and I'm leaning 360 right now).

The costs associated with XBox and 360 are offset by the fact that MS is putting a device utilizing their media, drivers, and propreitary formats in your living room that they control. If Zune wasn't such a complete and total failure, they'd effectively control your PC, music device, and entertainment center that delivers media. If they can set the standards and control the delivery methods, they stand to make money. I'd be surprised if the 360 ever returns them any meaningful profit, but it's still doing what they want.

If you compare all of the systems to each other in equal poitns in their life cycle, 360 and PS3 are a dead heat and the Wii is simply crushing them. People tend to forget the 360 was in a similar state as the PS3 (but with issues in regards to distribution and even greater issues in regards to faulty products) until a few of the AAA, or at least AA, titles hit. Also, the foreign markets play a big role, as there are still some launch 360's sitting on Japanese shelves that have yet to be purchased. In short, except for the Wii, this generation has been pretty abysmal for the major companies. MS just has had a year to get on its feet and make a recovery.
