Yeah, they rarely swear. But I also don't think they write very good jokes. That's just me though. Ron White is actually the only one of that group I really enjoy. There dumbed down jokes are a nice change sometimes from say someone like Lewis Black or David Cross... I don't like 'em, but that's just me. I've never found them funny. Especially Larry the Cable Guy...I detest him.

Although he has gotten a bit carried away with the vulgarity as of late, he's still awesome to watch.

It pains me to say it, but George Carlin has been slipping. He's had serious health problems, though, so he at least has an excuse. Well, his books are very enjoyable (Brain Droppings, Napalm and Silly Putty). And I was shocked when I learned he narrated Thomas the Tank Engine. I remembered that from my childhood. I've actually been a fan of him almost my entire life. Heh. I have his booke, " When Will Jesus Bring the Pork Chops." Very good, I like it. Out of the Blue Collar group, I like Ron White and Bill Engvall(for the most part). Foxworthy is hit or miss, and Larry just sucks to me.

I normally don't like it when comedians yell through the whole act, but it works for Black, honestly. He is, in my opinion, this generation's George Carlin.

Sure, he screams and swears constantly...but it works without being overdone for Black. He's amazing. If it weren't for my horse...

I got that book for my Mom (also a Carlin fan) for Christmas, and I spent more time reading it than she did.

I love some 1980's Eddie Murphey though...that's some funny stuff that still applies to today (much like most of Carlin's acts)

I hate when a comedian coasts on their past, and they dip seriously in quality. Robin Williams, for example. Stand up was never what he excelled at, other than his enthusiasm and energy onstage. His HBO special a couple years back was really not very funny at all. Once you get past the dancing, voices, and yelling, you find an entirely hollow act. It pains me to say it, but George Carlin has been slipping. He's had serious health problems, though, so he at least has an excuse. To defend Robin Williams, he was wasted for his comedy shows in the 70s and early 80s. The energy he showed was outstanding, and I'm not a big fan of the guy. He was a master at playing off of people. The man could go straight from jokes about venerial disease to a soliloquy about some Shakespearian play. I just think of him more as an actor now. Steve Martin as well, and he was one of the funniest guys on the planet at one time. There aren't very many people that stick to the whole comedy circuit as a career anymore. Most of them go in for a few years. Then, the lucky ones get discovered, and end up on a show with their name in it or a decent movie. Then they forget where they came from and end up doing crap for the rest of their lives. (Jim Carrey, anyone?) So, we should cherish guys like George Carlin and Jay Leno. (Jay still works the clubs on the weekend; he hates not working - and the guy is worth billions just based on his car collection alone!) You can tell these guys just love going out and meeting people and sharing their thoughts. One guy you may not think a lot of, but is also very funny: Rondell Sheridan. Yes, "Chef Victor" is an accomplished comedian and always makes me laugh.

I mentioned this before in the David Cross thread but I hate comedians that say "Uh" and "Ya know" too much. David Cross is the worst offender, but I some others I have heard are pretty bad about it too. It's your freakin' job to tell jokes and stories, plan them out enough so you don't have to say "Ya know" while you think. Cross sometimes strings together three or four in a row. Makes it very difficult to listen to him sometimes.

I am a fan of george carlin's older material, But I saw his latest stand up three years ago..... to me, hes just a bitter old man now. Pretty much he talked about death for an entire hour.

I think Cross is a better actor than a stand up.

I like Bill Engvall and Ron White, Engvall most of all, though. Larry's just a gimmick, Foxworthy coasts on the "You might be a redneck" thing, White's pretty vulgar and plays up the "drunk" image, and Engvall's just a comedian, honestly. He doesn't really have a gimmick that I've heard. I like that. "Here's Your Sign". "That's Awesome". I like Bill, maybe because I'm a father of two little ones and a lot of his stories make me wonder if he's been looking in my window, stealing material. I connect with him the most.

I'm all about anti-Blue Collar but I like Bill because he seems to be pretty wholesome for the most part. Comedy that derives from living life. You won't always laugh out loud but you can usually identify.
