Return to Oz
Watership Down
They seem like kid's movies, but they have a dark edge to say the least.

Despite it's tounge-in-cheek roots, Arachnophobia made me REALLY scared of spiders when I was young. It's nothing now-a-days and I don't mind spiders much anymore, but back then.....

Superman III. The scene where the lady gets turned into a robot. I still can't watch it! It gave me nightmares for about two weeks straight when I was a kid!

Of the movies that were coming out during the early '70s, the trailer for one film freaked me out: "The Car". When the woman is on the phone crying and you see the Car's headlights in the window... it's especially freaky when you're young, it's dark out, and you live at the end of a street in a small town where there's not a lot of traffic at night... Also, "Jaws".

My grandpa used to torture me with the Excorcist when I was younger. Hed watch it damn near everytime I came over. I watched it for the first time since then a few years ago and laughed my ass off through most of it.

Jason Goes to Hell, when Debbie gets ripped in half with a tent spike while she's still nailing the guy. More than anything, it's the horrible, gurgle-y scream she lets out and the glob of blood that shoots out of her mouth. I actually still have a hard time watching that one.

The movies that absolutely, positively scared the crap out of me as a kid were the F13 ones. When I was in third-fourth grade I would tape the marathons of these movies that came on the USA network - and they freaking traumatized me to the point that I couldn't sleep, but yet - for some strange reason I still watched them anyway.
Of course, now I watch these things all the time.
