I will say this: Sometimes, I wish wCw were still around. I've been wishing that a LOT lately, and you know that's saying something, considering how BAD wCw was at the end there.
But watching a trainwreck like wCw is a helluva lot more entertaining than watching a product that seems like no one involved gives a damn anymore. The writers, the producers, the talent agents.....no one seems like they're even beginning to try. They're just content to sit on their asses and put the whole product on cruise control.
Most days, I pray to God that the wrestling bug bites Ted Turner again and he buys TNA.
I mean, I think about how good the product was when I was watching back in the heydays of the Monday Night Wars, and it's sad to see what it's become. You used to have a solid face to cheer (Austin), a guy that you could sympathize with (Mankind), a guy who was laugh out loud hilarious (The Rock/Y2J), and an evil heel that you hated with all your might (McMahon/HHH). Compare that to the tripe we have today, and it truly is a sad state of affairs. Which is not to say that the WWE of today doesn't have talent....they DO, and that's what is precisely so frustrating. Like I said, with no competition, there's no worry that anyone is going to flip to some other wrestling show on Monday nights. So therefore, the writers/creative/whomever are free to sit there and fiddle while Rome burns.
Bottom line is WWE needs competition to get better. Otherwise, what's the motivation?

Can I just say, there is no "IWC". It's a derogatory term used to throw every wrestling fan under the same blanket. "Will the IWC ever like Cena?", some of them do actually. To have an IWC every single one of us would have to agree on everything all the time and that's not possible.

How has "everything" been garbage?
-ECW is currently the best thing in mainstream wrestling right now. -Smackdown was awesome before the draft. When the champions were Taker, MVP/Londrick/Chavo. If you tune in you still see 1 good Matt Hardy or MVP match. -Raw has been very hit or miss but has had good moments. It's been better outside the ring than inside the ring.
Stop being so pessimistic. I normally don't say this but... don't watch it then. If WWE is the worst EVER. Then don't watch. If it's to the point where nothing is worth watching, don't watch it.

This is the comment that makes this thread null and void. Because I'm sure there was a thread last year about how horrible 2006 was and I'm sure someone made a comment similar to "the first half of 2005 was great." and then it repeated the year before that and the year before that and will continue to repeat next year. You are correct. I seem to recall a lot of people shitting all over 2006 as being the worst year ever.

Personally, I thought 2007 has been a decent year, all things considered. IMO, it was better than 2006, and a lot other years.
As for people who praise the "glory years" of the attitude era. . . The wrestling wasn't all that great back then. Seriously, watch some of those old PPV's. Just sayin

I think the in ring wrestling has been pretty good this year. But the storylines have been so so. I think the year got off to a good start but after Backlash it started to go downhill.
I would say they are doing alright considering the vast amount of injuries and the whole Benoit situation.

Every time I look back at the Attitude Era, I realize more and more that the only reason I enjoyed it for a little bit (about 1998-1999) was basically because I was 13 years old. Once I take the rose colored glasses off, I'm left completely underwhelmed, outside of a few wrestlers and angles I truly enjoyed.

I'll say it again: Competition drove the WWF to be the best it ever was during the Monday Night Wars. When your back is against the wall, you either kick ass or you go home defeated.
Lack of competition is killing the WWE. With no wCw to compete against, they're merely spinning their wheels.

I have to agree. This year looked like it was going to GREAT after Royal Rumble but soon after it all fell apart.
EDIT: ECW has profited most in terms of entertainment value, but even that show is pretty damn stale.

"utter garbage" is a ridiculous knee-jerk overstatement.
Not as good as we've seen in the past? Fine.

For me personally I haven't enjoyed the product at all this year. Bits and pieces here and there, Edge winning the title for one, but other than that, I've just been bored. I've rarely watched Raw or Smackdown and only watch PPVs because I get them free. I wouldn't see PPVs if I had to pay for them. I'm constantly let down and dissapointed and everyone I want to win never does so it's useless for me. I understand a lot may enjoy the product right now and kids love it no matter what, but for me personally I just can't. Yeah, basically the same for me.

It's been bad for awhile and it will continue to be bad until they make obvious changes. Unfortunately, those changes won't come with management firmly seated as they are, so prepare for a long, brutal ride.
