OK, everyone here should have an invite by now.
We have just 4 spots left in the league (1 if everyone who's posted accepts invites).
Also, are we wanting to move the draft back to Monday? I acknowledge we're likely not going to find a day that works for EVERYONE, but it sounds like Monday might be more convenient for everyone than Saturday. Or am I reading the room wrong?

I have been getting some feedback that a Saturday draft be less convenient than Monday.
It's not too late for me to change it if need be. Would a Monday night draft (per usual) work better?
While we discuss that, everyone that has requested an invite in this thread should have an invite. If I missed you, let me know ASAP.

I'd be OK to join but defer to the priority of people rejoining/it filling up bumps me out. Well if we expand the team cap it might help too, usually when he starts the league everyone just posts that they're in, he can probably keep track of the people who have retroactively called it here, already a good chunk. I’ll be keeping track of anyone who puts their “in” in here. I’m still going to be doing it the way I normally do; on a Saturday at a specific time I’ll send out the invites, and send invites until all spots are full. If we still have spots, I’ll still send invites. Just receiving an invite won’t reserve a spot, but responding to the invite and adding yourself to the league will. I plan on making THE post/thread in the next couple days. I’m on vacation at the moment but have already created the actual league, got a tentative date decided for the draft (it’ll be a Saturday around noon), and it’s just a matter of putting the big mega-post together with all the details.

So last call on all this; I'm likely setting up the league and making the official thread in the next week or two. So we're all good with doing half-PPR, 14 teams, and a Saturday draft (I'm leaning more towards a 12 or 1 PM eastern draft myself). Am I reading the room right on this? I'm not familiar with discord. How does it work? Holy smokes, sorry for the late response!!! It's a messaging program you can either get the app for (mobile, PC, Apple, etc. it's on everything) or you can even just access it in a browser by going to their website. It allows you to join servers or groups and chat that way. So we'd just set up a F.A.N.tasy Football group and go from there. We've done it in the past but only a few people would join and by Weeks 2-3 it'd be basically silent. But it sounds like there might be genuine interest in doing that so I could give it another go.

So sounds like the BIG thing we wanna address is a different (most likely weekend) draft day. Do we have a day of the week/time in mind? We did try a Discord room once but it seemed like no one joined? If we could make that more official it would surely be easier talking about trades instead of me DMing seven people and my mailbox being "Trade? Potential Trade? TRADE??" We've done a Discord room the last few years and it would always fizzle out within a few weeks. We had a couple years where only 2-3 of us would even be on a call on draft day, so I stopped bothering with it once it got to that point. But considering how active in discussion the thread was last year, maybe there would be more demand for a Discord server this time around?

I'm ok with the lottery format, I've never done an auction though that'd need to be explained to me. I know the possibility of a Dynasty league was floated, but idk how much people would be down for that In an auction draft, instead of a draft order you "propose" a player to be bid on. Everyone gets $200. Whoever is willing to bid the most wins that player. There are other variations; the auction league I've been in did "right of first refusal" where once per team the player who selected them to be bid on can pay $1 more than the winning bid to take the player. Once you run out of money, you can only get players if you elect a player for bidding and nobody bids on them, or through the waiver wire post-draft (depending on league settings). It can be fun, but it takes a LOT of time. When we did them in our work league it took a full evening, and that was when we would bail at the halfway point and do a normal draft from there on.

THE 2022 F.A.N.TASY FOOTBALL SEASON IS ABOUT TO BEGIN
REGISTRATION:
Draft Lotto date: Saturday August 6th at 12:00PM EST
DRAFT DATE (NEW DATE, PLEASE NOTE): Monday August 29th at 8:00PM EST
If you post in this thread or PM me that you're interested in signing up, I will send an invite to you once signups are open. This will ensure that shortly after registration opens, you'll get a link to sign up for the league. Simply posting in this thread or receiving the invite WILL NOT guarantee your spot in the league. You MUST accept the invite while slots are still open in order to reserve your place. I will continue to send invites until the league is full, not merely stopping when I've sent 14 invites (the # of teams in the league).
Signups are done in this manner to insure everyone is aware of when registration is open, and it doesn't come down to just whoever "sees the post first".
This is a Yahoo! fantasy football league. This means you will need a Yahoo! account in order to participate. Make sure you have an account and are able to access it before the signup and draft day to prevent any hangups. There is a test link on the main league page once you sign up to make sure your browser/settings will work with the in-browser draft program. There is also a free mobile app for drafts as well (on Google Play and Apple stores) if you would rather do it that way or have any difficulties with the in-browser draft. There will not be any special cases made for technical difficulties with the draft application or your internet/data connection unless it's a global Yahoo issue. -------------------------- LEAGUE INFO:
There will be 14 teams in the league, no more, no less. If a spot is forfeit for any reason (more on that in a moment), I will open a spot back up for another player to take over. So please, if you're going to join in, be certain you're in it for the long haul. Few things in the league suck as much as an inactive team.
The draft will be conducted in a snake-style draft. The draft order will be determined by a draft lottery that (assuming the league fills up at the pace it normally does) will take place on July 31st. The order will be reversed in even-numbered rounds. Example: If I got the 5th selection in the lottery, I'd have the 5th choice in the odd numbered rounds, but would have the 9th pick in even-numbered rounds. And yes, this does mean if you have the 1st pick or the 14th pick, you'll often be making two selections in a row, but in return you'll be waiting awhile before the draft comes back around to you.
The rosters will consist of 1 QB, 2 RBs, 2 WRs, 1 TE, 1 DEF, 1 Kicker, and one Flex position which can be used to play a 3rd RB, a 3rd WR, or 2nd TE on any given week. The flex position CANNOT be used for a QB, defense, or kicker. Defense can score more points than in a normal league, though not so much that defense becomes overvalued.
The schedule will consist of a 14 week regular season starting on Week 1; this means that everybody will play every other team one time during the regular season, and then one randomized rematch to compensate for the additional week in the NFL season
The top 8 teams will qualify for the playoffs, which will take place across weeks 15/16/17 (no games will be played Week 18, as many teams will opt to rest players and/or play backups). There will be losers brackets and the like through the playoffs, so even if you lose in week 15, you will still play on to decide your final ranking. Any teams KO'd from the playoffs will have their teams "locked", preventing them from letting players go or obtaining new players (to prevent meddling or collusion).
The only real grounds for being kicked from the league is collusion between two teams or just being an overall jerk (remember when I said "Few things in the league suck as much as an inactive team"?). If you are suspended from the forums during the league year (and suspension is unrelated to the league) or delete your account, you will be allowed to play out the season, though obviously entering next year might be an issue. if your suspension DOES have to do with the league, action will be taken; most likely, being locked out of your team and future league activity.
And I believe that's about it. If you have any questions or general trash-talk, this thread'll be here all year.

11th Street - Fatal Fury Wild Ambition Hate to say the Smash Ultimate version doesn't do this justice, but......
Irene - Street Fighter EX 2 Love seeing the EX soundtrack appreciation, the soundtracks on those games are incredible
One Night in Neo Kobe City - Snatcher I've always told myself this would be my "entrance theme". Always dug this. Cool and mellow, but carries a "shit's about to go down" vibe.
Egg Carrier - Sonic Adventure I remember being floored the first time I heard this. Always loved the Sonic soundtracks, but this was gold.
Festival Village - Mystical Village Starring Goemon To me, the best song in any videogame ever.

Ya know what's funny? We talk shit every year about the Yahoo predictions being wrong (and they were on some; I was supposed to be a Top 5 team), but after the insanity of this season, for Yahoo to actually call the Championship game correctly is kinda wild. Congrats to Edge of Insanity on being the 2021 F.A.N.tasy Football Champion! Hope to see ya around next year to defend your title.

I've seen the recent report that the NFL is considering postponing games due to the surge in Covid cases.
I'm basically at the mercy of however Yahoo decides to handle the issue of any postponed games. If they give me a choice in the matter I'll update, but keep an eye on how Yahoo calls it.

The whole clustersmurf the RB position turns into is why I considered going high on WR this year and letting the RBs fall where they do, because I felt going high on RB was asking for trouble.
Lo and behold, Ridley had his year (hate to sound like I'm complaining about mental health, just stating that statistically, that pick didn't pan out), Diggs started slow but woke up, AB was a 1 on the D20, Gronk has been solid when he plays (keyword: when). So not a complete collapse, but only one receiver being worth the pick and deciding to lean into the mess at RB while my WR core becomes a mess too...nah, was asking for it.
Which sucked because Darrell Henderson worked out well, my calculated shot at Jalen Hurts (someone I had higher stock than most on) paid off, and Diggs ended up being worth the late 1st I got him for. The rest didn't work out...
.....didn't help Yahoo recommended I dropped James Conner, which I'm starting to think could've flipped a couple wins to me, and maybe would've put me in the hunt this afternoon.

I once started a keeper league on the side of the normal league, and save one or two people, nobody was interested. I had it up for a month and I think 5 people registered, so I just closed it up and didn't do it. That wasn't super-recently, but it wasn't a really long time ago either. I wouldn't mind if someone else did a keeper league (I'd probably even join), but I wouldn't want to do it in place of the normal league. As far as the draft order, I always just thought the rando was the best way to handle it. Default Yahoo rules actually have it where the order is unknown until the lobby is available to load (about 20-30 minutes before the actual draft itself). I thought it'd be more fun (and strategic) to make it a lottery thing I do where you can know beforehand and build a strategy. I've considered balancing newbies to the league and vets in the order (or doing an NBA lottery style where more spaces are taken up on "the wheel" for vets when we do the draft but newbies or bad records just have one space, almost assuring they stick around longer), but have always debated how to sort it especially since the "best position to draft" is subjective as it is. I know people who LOVE drafting at one of the ends of the draft and think the middle is a total valley. I know others that subscribe to spots 7 & 8 are prime territory. In a keeper league, I definitely think the discussion of "where do newbies draft" and how to consider previous results needs to take place, considering you keep players year after year. But in a league that's basically a full-reset year after year, I feel a simple "rando everybody" is best. I've also debated doing an auction draft, so then the draft order wouldn't matter (for those that don't know, there IS an order on who picks the player being bid on, and if nobody bids you get them, but otherwise it just goes to the highest bidder). The draft would go MUCH longer in that case; I've been in a league at a former job where we did an auction draft...then again, we discussed doing the draft at a different day/time next year too. More stuff we can discuss in the off-season. It's not a huge thing to me. Personally, when I made that thing about getting the first pick, I wasn't 100% serious about it. It's more a laugh for me about how bad I am. Oh no, you're not the only one. There's people over the years that have believed that middle ground is the place to be. Groose chases specific players and hopes he's in a spot where they fall (he wanted Kelce BAD and was ecstatic when he was there). I usually have my best luck in the early/middle of the round. Twice I've been deep in the back, and neither time has it gone well. But some people have nailed it.

I would not get my hopes up for a keeper league unless it's a side thing. I kind of like how the leagues here are one and done and everyone starts on a fresh slate. I will say there might be potential in the worst team this year gets the first pick next year as appose to the draft lottery. Maybe returning teams can get the earlier picks based on record of last year and the remining spots go to newer teams, or flip it where new teams get early picks and the returning teams get the later picks depending on where they placed this year. I kind of like the former as it gives perks to keep doing the league each year. Depends on what the commissioner wants to do. At this point I'm just throwing darts to see what sticks. Personally speaking, I don't know why anyone would want the top pick. Way too much risk when you don't get another pick until pick 28. I'm not sure who has McCaffrey this year, but I don't imagine it worked out very well for them. I once started a keeper league on the side of the normal league, and save one or two people, nobody was interested. Usually I go with the default deadline. I also "lock" any non-playoff teams to prevent teams from tampering with the waiver wire. Had that issue back when WrestleCrap had a Yahoo league (before FAN)...a few teams out of the playoffs claiming players on the waiver wire and one team dumped all their good players to the waiver wire (suddenly we had Peyton Manning and Arian Foster up for grabs).
It's also why I'm keeping AB, but that's more a "me" thing. I could see him being the winning move for a Semifinal team.

Let's do a writeup. A tale of playoff spot dogfights and two teams running through EVERYONE right now... - The Fightin Eagles vs Jumping into the Shark: A very big win for my team looking into next week. A very balanced effort and damn near my best overall running back performance combined in weeks. Picking up Devonta Freeman and trading for Clyde Edwards-Helaire has paid dividends. Shark held strong with me for awhile thanks to Myles Gaskin and surprise Waiver pickup Jarvis Landry... but the late push by Tyreek Hill and CEH put it to bed for me. At 7-4 my team is 3rd in the League! The highest I've ever been! With Hill and CEH on late bye however... a win vs Edge of Insanity will not be easy. While Jumping into the Shark sit at 1-10... with 10 straight losses. They will need a lot of help to pull off the upset of the year against The Showstoppas! - The Hurst Business vs Edge of Insanity: This wasn't even fair. It just wasn't. It's not like Hurts Business even had a bad week... their namesake scored 30 points this week! They just faced Edge of Insanity. A team that has won five straight and run a train through this FANtasy league of late. Jonathan Taylor scored 50 POINTS by HIMSELF. Edge racked up over 154 point and was basically in autopilot very early into this contest... it didn't even matter that Russel Wilson sucked! At 3-8... Hurts Business has a season hanging on by a thread going into a Pumpkin Spice Mafia showdown. Edge however is sitting pretty in second place at 8-3... and will look to kill me and my team next behind his lord and savior Taylor - The Groose Football Team vs The Showstoppas: Groose had impressive showings from Aaron Rodgers who massively bounced back with 33 points and Travis Kelce... but the rest of the team underperforming is what inevitably did them in to FAN's first place team and also winners of five straight. The Showstoppas roared back with late games and Tom Brady and Chris Godwin's power trip. Doesn't hurt to have Joe Mixon and James Connor either... and Groose just couldn't overcome it. The Showstoppas are 9-2 and will be the first team to double digits if they pass The Sharks. Groose at 6-5 suddenly finds themselves in danger... Bob's Team looms ahead in what will be a crucial match for both teams. - Hakuna Matata! vs Return of the Jazz: Hakuna Matata has had the second worst luck in the league lately. That did not change despite this being an UGLY game. Jazz didn't dominate but did ENOUGH to put this away at the barn burning score of 72.34 to 64.96. In a contest where both quarterbacks in Prescott and Fields combined for SEVEN POINTS... the deciding factor was inevitably Demented leaving Elijah Mitchell and his 25 fantasy points on the bench for fellow Jet Corey Davis and his... five points. The deciding win came in the last game of the week and the return of Saquon Barkley... as underwhelming as his 8 points were? They were enough. Both teams come out of this at 5-6... Jazz riding momentum is looking to secure a playoff spot and will need to beat Sexy Billy to do it. Demented will look to end a horrific four game losing streak at he worst possible time... and they will need to beat The Fresh Princes to do so! - The Fresh Princes of Bel Air vs Daley's Swell Winners: A team who has seen the highest of highs and the lowest of lows... Daley's Swell Winners had been anything but lately! Until this week! Looking like the Henry lead Daley of old... a completely well balanced attack behind the 18 points each of McLaurin and Mike Williams (Every player but Burrow and the Defense over 10 points!) was able to propel past The Fresh Princes and end their winning streak. The game was decided on Lamar Jackson's last second scratch and Fresh Princes being unable to swap them. Which is a shame... but trying to overcome the combined seven points from Drake/Uzomah/Higgins would also be impossible this week. Fresh Princes can get back on track against Demented in a pivotal playoff race match. Daley will take their own 6-5 record into a showdown with the Comfywolves. - GYN Comfywolves vs Pumpkin Spice Mafia: The Comfywolves don't wanna talk about it ok? I wouldn't either after only scoring 59 points... It doesn't get much worse... with no Aaron Jones (Hated that guy remember?) the last thing needed was a GOOSE EGG from Carlos Hyde... but it was had. The week started out great with 16 points from NICK FOLK... who would unfortunately be the highest scorer on the team. Pumpkin Spice didn't need to do much this week... but decided to score 132 points anyway. Why yes... they did in fact do that with Courtland Sutton left on the roster and in a bye week! Herbert/Ekeler/Cook/Ertz had some of their best games if not THE best games of their seasons this week. A season saving win for Pumpkin Spice... they sit at 4-7 with work to do. Their boom or bust team attitude which has lead to a lot of points but not a lot of wins yet takes them into a match with The Hurts Business while the Comfywolves have to try and save their season at their own 4-7 against Daley's Swell Winners... - Anal Bleeding Bob vs Sexy Billy: Bob has flown under the radar this season. They aren't a flashy team... they just are a consistent one. That consistency has lead to yet another win against Sexy Billy. A CLOSE game decided by 12 points... A zero spot by the kicker Koo and NEGATIVE TWO points by the Chargers Defense did Billy in. This hurts all the more considering Bob scored 101 points with two players scoring ZERO POINTS. Gainwell was a last minute inactive scratch and Dan Arnold simply did nothing this week for Jacksonville which shocked everyone (I was there last week with Gesicki man I get it). When Justin Jefferson scores 33... it really helps lift a teams shortcomings! Despite 25 from Cousins (Offset by Jefferson) and 21 from CMC... Billy falls to 6-5 and now is in a crucial matchup against Return of the Jazz... while at 7-4... Bob also faces a tough matchup in Groose for pivotal playoff standing. - While only 8 of the 14 teams now only have winning records... 12 teams in the league still have a very realistic shot at the playoffs. Thanksgiving Week will be Feast or Famine for multiple teams in very short player weeks. - Pray for me vs Edge of Insanity please? I'm gonna see Jonathan Taylor in my nightmares I just know it! I'll take Aaron Jones over this!! Lemme just say I've thoroughly enjoyed these writeups. I got a new job right before the season started (work-at-home) so I'm BURNT on using a computer by the time I'm off for the day. I've always wanted to do something like this but then I sit down to do it and just go "....blech". Just wanted to show my appreciation for them.

Beating both Demented and Groose in a FANtasy League year feels like it should be some unlocked achievement lmfao Didn't beat the third piece of that puzzle though, did ya? (In case you or others here didn't know, I'm Groose's older brother...used to be a LOT more active on here than I am now, and started a new account a few years back hence the low post count).
