With the rise of “legacy series” like Cobra Kai, the Star Wars shows, and ummm *quick thing of a third example* err Willow. They could try making a series. I’m surprised Paramount have not for their Paramount+ service .. could be about paranormal activity starts to drastically inscrease around the World so they go with the franchising idea they have teased since the Ghostbusters videogame. Have it set at one of these new franchises like say Chicago or San Francisco or maybe even London. I feel like Star Wars if nobody else has proven that legacy properties with well-established settings and lore work significantly better with the miniseries/episodic format than with standalone movies. Not sure if Ghostbusters has the same level of lore to work with in comparison, but feel like it could definitely work better as a series than another movie.

There's something slightly off about the art style that I'm still getting used to. At first I thought it was just the FIM look losing something after being translated into 3D CG vs 2D, but then it's like I was still getting the uncanny vibes even while skimming the IDW comics that are out now. I dare say the closest thing I can think of is Shark Tale (though obviously not to THAT extreme) in the sense of "okay, are the faces supposed to be vaguely based off the voice actors or what?" when it's clearly a species and/or art style that it just straight up doesn't translate to.

Is this reference to some pop culture thing that has gone over my head? Otherwise, no I'm fine. I'm just waiting for my cheque from the Nigerian lottery to come through

The very best I can say is at least this clusterfudge is happening when it is and not when it could have happened.

I legit forgot that Sonic Chronicles existed. From what I understand. He owns the rights to his character but he legally can't have them in the SEGA style hence the very bad redesign of them. There are a ton of talented artists out there that have redesigned Sonic characters in different unique styles, trouble is as well as not wanting to move too far away from the status quo (hence why all of Knuckles' relatives look like him with an accessory) Ken's just not particularly good at art in general. Agreed, I've seen plenty of artists do awesome things with the echidna characters themselves, where the style is far removed from the SEGA default but the characters are still clearly recognizable... I just also get the sense that none of said artists are willing to work for Penders. Alternatively, I'd also be willing to bet that Penders thinks he can do it all himself and wouldn't be willing to work with outside artists anyway.

.... Who the hell is Ken Penders??? Former Sonic The Hedgehog Archie comic writer. Well known for winning a lawsuit agaisnt Archie for the rights to his 1 million Knuckles recolor characters and the main reasons why SEGA wont uses Sally Acorn or any of the freedom fighter ever again. And somehow, after having actually won the rights to said characters and being given effectively carte blanche to use them for whatever he wanted independent of the Sonic license, managing to produce pretty much nothing aside from a few bits of... let's just say, impressively awful concept art.

My understanding of British wrestling from the 60s to the 2000s is that it was an endless war between raceswapped guys and fat guys that was so bloody that the leader of the fat guys went to America to become a sea monster. I also feel like the British heels managed to somehow be even lazier with names and backgrounds and such for said raceswapped dudes. Like, I still can't get over Kendo Nagasaki just as an actual name. Still surprised he didn't end up with a tag team partner named Katana Hiroshima or something.

I forget if they ever claimed Vladmimir Kozlov was Russian. He is Ukrainian, which, uhh, deeply unfortunate in hindsight implications involved in WWE conflating the two, if so. I don't remember if they said so outright, but they sure implied the hell out of it between his tron graphics and ring gear. Go on YouTube and search up "Vladimir Kozlov entrance" to get the graphics he used through his ECW run, and it's literally the hammer and sickle plus a Russian military parade, so yeah. Also pretty sure he was called the "Moscow Mauler" at some point.

"a mystery and a wonder.." "Might solve a mystery...in Indie's history..." The feeling when you realize that *technically* there's nothing stopping Indiana Jones from crossing over with Scrooge McDuck now. That being said, I have no clue how a live action, non-duck Scrooge would look or who would be best to play him if you were going to somehow do a crossover.

It's new territory, really: MySpace was supplanted by Facebook in a relatively smooth manner, but the core of the impacted userbase was a bunch of ancient Millenials (like me) - Twitter is the main platform that modern media elites and major figures have really gravitated to and legitimized, to the point that they take Twitter discourse and almost always elevate it far beyond what its actual statistical scope is. Like, reporters from the biggest newspapers, the biggest names in politics and entertainment, etc., Twitter is basically *the* platform for them, and there's no real "organic" transition to a new platform on the horizon. If Twitter was simply being supplanted by a new platform that did similar things ala how Facebook took MySpace's spot on the totem pole, that'd be one thing, but this is going to be kind of wild for awhile. You're right, and as someone who also qualifies as an ancient millennial, I agree that the Myspace->Facebook transition and even the bottom falling out of Tumblr isn't nearly the complete userbase upheaval Twitter exploding would be. (As an aside, I feel like I've never seen a consensus on where the actual transition between Gen X to Millennial is, though I feel like that's also because the claimed cutoff to be called a millennial keeps going earlier and earlier in time, seemingly. But that's another rant for another time.) It's weird, because I feel like Facebook had the same sort of clumsy transition to toxicity. I wouldn't say it started immediately after they opened it to more than just college kids, but arguably by the time it became overrun with Your Aunts That Inexplicably Like Minions ad nauseum.

I'm still trying to think if we've ever seen a platform the size of Twitter crash and burn this badly. Even MySpace at its peak didn't have the level of investment Twitter has had. That, if nothing else, makes me feel that whatever replacement platform gets the most positive momentum, will get built back up pretty quickly.
With as entrenched as Twitter has gotten, for better or for worse, I see people looking to fill that status quo pretty quickly.
Just hoping it's an independent company that gets the momentum and not something put out by Google or Amazon or Facebook or basically any existing tech giant.

I don’t agree with Linehan at all and he’s made his own bed, he can lie in it but I still love most of the shows he had a hand in. Arthur Matthews had an equal part in writing Father Ted and from what I have heard, doesn’t share any of Linehan’s views. Yet because of Linehan’s toxicity, his part in these great characters and shows they both created, is over-shadowed by the views of a twat. That's how I look at it, he was one part of it, but his partner, the actors, the direction, so many people made that show great, he won't get the satisfaction of ruining it. This is pretty much exactly how I feel towards both Linehan's shows and Harry Potter. I'm not going to give JKR the satisfaction of taking away the memories, nostalgia, and magic (pun intended) just because she wound up being as much of a twat as Linehan.

Twitter, for better or for worse, has come to occupy such a specific niche as a communications platform that I can't see it just completely disappearing. If not from someone swooping in and grabbing the scraps as soon as Muskrat cashes out, then from any of the workers that have cashed out over the last few weeks.
I'm just trying to think of any other example of a platform crashing and burning and something picking up the archives.

I was on the wrong side of middle school zero tolerance "we can't objectively claim who was bullying who or who started the fight even if there's a blindingly obvious pattern of behavior that the teachers all know about, so we're going to punish everyone involved equally" policies more than a few times growing up, and it sure feels like that sort of mindset is bleeding over into how a lot of folks want this to be handled.

SRS Jericho started in 2008 right? I remember enjoying his matches with Mysterio and HBK during that time period Yeah, serious Jericho started with the HBK feud, though I don't think he immediately changed to the suits and short trunks. He didn't lose the countdown in the intro until mid-2009 or so. I feel like he definitely unintentionally started the trend of heels being slow-talking, suit-wearing, and boring of presentation, with Swagger and JTG post-Cryme Tyme being the two worst examples I can think of off the top of my head.

Am I the only person who thinks that this gimmick's got more misses than hits when it comes to people being able to convincingly pull it off?
You figure you've got Danielson and Shibata as your textbook examples of how to do the gimmick properly, but I feel like for every Danielson, you've got a half-dozen guys willingly giving themselves the 2010 WWE New Heel makeover and ditching everything that made them stand out because it makes them SERIOUS. They try to be serious but just end up being bland and boring.
Late period pre-TK buyout ROH was utterly filled with these guys, and in hindsight they feel just as interchangeable as the OVW/FCW clones from back when.

Aldis is like the one wrestler I can think of that has managed to somehow be more bland than a generic nationality gimmick.
I'd put him in the same boat as Lethal, in the sense of being 'good enough' guys that were the most interesting with colorful TNA gimmicks, that have spent the last decade trying to be SERIOUS WRESTLER and only succeeding in being blander than Valutime oatmeal. At least Aldis to my knowledge doesn't have any lingering accusations like Lethal does.

Earthquake being only 27 when he debuted still blows my mind. Man looked like he was in his early 40s. This is Quake during his sumo career, at somewhere between 22-23. It's at least 90% the hair.

FIFA hasn't really done themselves any favors with this World Cup and the last one in terms of the host selection not coming off as super shady somewhere, though at the very least the next one is the shared North America hosting so that won't have the level of ick that this one and the last have had in terms of indirectly supporting dubious regimes, but I'll leave that at that.
I usually root for Germany, but I haven't been following much. Plus Brazil always feels like the Yankees when World Cups come around so I'll be sort of rooting against them, but we'll see.

Yeah, I see they're suddenly now showing one winner in CA. This does seem a bit sus, especially after all the mumblings about delaying the drawing due to security precautions or whatever.
Altadena is north of Pasadena and basically part of greater LA, and Cali doesn't allow you to claim anonymously, so yeah, if this is a legit winner, they better be prepared to f***ing hunker down for a while, from Cali media and paparazzi if nothing else.
