AHah I think its hillarious how some people are getting all pissy just cause some dudes on a forum are calling this a pr move. I dont know why Vince wants to waste his money on a lost cause like Jake Roberts. Even if he gets clean all the years of drug abuse have probably taken a huge toll on his body. Best case sceanrio I se is he ends up like Hawk. *bites tongue*

They did it purely for PR; that doesn't mean it's not good. If this was true, wouldn't they have announced it or commented on it or posted it on WWE.com?

It's sad that I live in a world where I can't quite imagine a sober Jake Roberts. Imagine Jake walking into a bar and having ... water? It would blow our freakin' minds. Or a Diet Pepsi. And then the internet freaks out and says he's off the wagon because they think he's having a Miller Lite. I'll stop now.

They did it purely for PR; that doesn't mean it's not good. I haven't seen one mention of this on wwe.com or any of their media outputs. If it was a PR move, wouldn't that mean they were publicizing it themselves?

I think people called it a PR move cause the original "WWE will pay any ex-WWE wrestler for rehab" report was sent out in press releases and news outlets and made into a big deal. This could be an extention of it.

Im just assessing the situation in a very pessimistic (or dare I say, realisitc) way.

This could be an extention of it. While at the same time saying they would publicly humiliate those on the current roster who violate the drug testing by posting their names on the website. They followed through on that and now they're following through on the press release regarding former wrestlers. I mean, I understand the logic in thinking it's just a PR move, but to me the PR move was releasing the press release initially. The fact that they're not gloating about this case seems to nullify the idea of this simply being a PR move.

Quick thought:
Maybe WWE did this for the mere fact that they want to see one of their alumnus get better, regardless of whatever PR they may or may not receive from it. Maybe they did it because they don't want to see another former superstar die, so that another superstar doesn't end up on Marc Mero's list, and Nancy Grace doesn't find herself asking, "Did Jake Roberts die because he was depressed from his demotion from WCW's Halloween Havoc to a loss in the 1996 King of the Ring finals?"

If this is all true, I do not care for the reason, I hope to see Jake roberts healthy again.

I dont know why Vince wants to waste his money on a lost cause like Jake Roberts. +1. it's kind of sad the WWE now feels responsible for a complete waste of a life like Jake Roberts. Haven't they paid for his rehab before? Even sadder that people are actually criticizing them for it. Find me one other junkie that's still being supported by former employers he had 10+ years ago. Some people's pure hatred of the WWE and everything they do is pretty disturbing.

Let me make sure I have this right:
WWE doesnt do anything: They're evil and heartless. They need to be held accountable because it's clearly their fault.
WWE sends someone to rehab: It's a PR move!!!! They dont really care!
Look, Im not going to sit here and try to claim that Vince McMahon is a saint by any means. The guy can be a total dick sometimes. But it's really disheartening to see that even when he does do anything good (Paying for former employees' funerals, rehab for past employees, and the Iraq shows every chirstmas) people refuse to give him or the company any credit. It's always an angle. There's no way he can do any good.
Are we really that f***ing cynical?

I remember when Regal was having trouble and it wasn't until the E sent him to rehab that he cleaned up completely. They have the money to get the absolute best and I'm glad they're helping Jake

goddamn people, cant we just wish jake a healthy recovery, hopefully for the final time... and leave it at that? or do you all have to f***ing argue about everything. even things you've got NO CLUE about at all?
are any of you working for WWE's PR department? oh... what's that? No? Well then stop acting like you do. none of you know if it was done for PR or not.
jesus christ...
i hope he gets better. even if he never wrestles again, i just hope he gets better for his family and for maybe adding a nice ending to his legacy...

Good on WWE no matter the motive, and hopefully Jake himself wants to clean up, cuz he's the only one who can make himself.

Does anyone have a link to the original article? I don't recall hearing about this and would love to see what they said in the release. As for Jake, I hope like hell he can come out of this a better person. I remember when he showed up on Raw to face off against Orton, and it was absolute magic.

Just how every post so far has been about PR and crap. It's shocking that I, a pessimist, am the only one that actually read that and thought it was a great thing. But all I'm seeing is "PR move" posts. I do think it's a good thing, and I think it's good that these men (and women) have a chance to turn their lives around. But ask yourself one thing: Do you honestly think this rehab opportunity would be there for Jake and the rest had the whole Benoit thing never gone down?
