After hearing Joey Styles, JBL, Ultra Mantis Black, Larry Sweeney, Bryce Ramsburg, and Dave Prazak, I'm forced to strongly disagree. I used to like Joey Styles and I don't know the others. Unless they are the listless bored-sounding ROH announcers. Prazak is ROH's best announcer, head and shoulders above any other they've had (except CM Punk, of course). He gave us "DANGEROUSSSS!!!" among other things. He's no Heenan or Monsoon, but he blows Tenay and West out of the water. All the others do commentary for Chikara, IWA-MS, CZW (I think) and a number of others. And they're all far more entertaining and better than Tenay and West. |

Well you and very rarely agree on anything at all, so I'm not surprised you think ROH has good commentating.
The company does a lot right but..... no.

Well you and very rarely agree on anything at all, so I'm not surprised you think ROH has good commentating. The company does a lot right but..... no. Lenny Leonard is average at best. Jimmy Bower, or whatever the hell Gabe's calling himself these days, is atrocious. But if you think Dave Prazak sucks, you clearly haven't watched ROH in a while. But leaving that aside, calling Went and Tenay the best in the business just seems absurd to me when there are clearly so many out there that outperform them on so many levels (even leaving Prazak out). |

Prazak is head and shoulders better then Gabe, who I only recently found out was Jimmy Bower. I have a difficult time watching the older ROH dvds, just because his voice is so damn grating.

I mostly think Tenay and West are head and shoulders about the WSX, ROH and WWE commentary I've heard. Beyond that, I can't speak about CZW or Chikara which I've never seen. One thing I'll say about every other announcer, including the worst of ROH, none of them ever cut off a wrestler while he was cutting a promo, and they all actually call the matches rather than talk about everything but the matches. And while all but Prazak in the ROH booth definitely sounded bored and listless (you're definitely right on that one), neither they nor the other guys I mentioned ever scream with over-the-top, forced excitement. "OH MY GOD, ARE YOU FRIKKIN' KIDDING ME!!!" (I'm still wondering if you've heard Prazak's commentary, like on ROH's first PPVs, to try and suggest that he sounds bored, though.) |

He does scream with over-the-top forced exitement (and so did a WSX guy I mentioned.) I never mentioned Jim Ross because I'm willing to accept that Tenay/West are better than him and Lawler. I haven't liked them in years. I only listed the people I think are better than TNA's announcers. Much like Babyface Lawler is the cancerous limb of the Raw team, Don West is the cancerous limb of Impact. I know he's trying his best, but still...
Tenay's not my favorite, but I don't hate him.

I meant best in the mainstream television announcing business. That's why I didn't bring up ROH until after you mentioned Pazak specifically. Then again, I do have a goatee. After having heard WSX and WWE announcers a few times, I'm forced to conclude that Tenay and West are currently the best announcers in the wrestling business. It's been years since I heard commentating on the level of Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan, the best ever. Even Jesse Ventura, who I considered very overrated was better than most of the guys doing it today. JBL is pretty much top dawg |

I don't hate Mike Tenay, but he's not the first person I want at the announcer's table if you were to ask me.
