He was much better when he was the "Professor" on WCW. Tenay as lead announcer is a bit too much. Agreed. Although I still prefer him over others. **CoughJIMROSSCough**

not to just take shots at the wwe but i still prefer west and tenay to jr and king. maybe not jr and king when they were good but as of now especially with the way they are made to repeat the same phrases over and over making every event feel like it's being commentated by the smackdown vs raw games.

wow really? The Wrestling God the American HE-RO If he didn't wreste in WWF in the late 80s, WCW and ECW in the late 90s or TNA and ROH since 2005 I would never have been exposed to him. Wrestling tends to turn crappy so I tend to quit watching for between 5-7 years. When I come back there's always new companies to enjoy.

If there's a heel mic wise i'd compare to JBL
it'd probably be Hollywood Hogan.

He's a heel commentator? Then I wouldn't like him. I think the entire idea of 'face' and 'heel' commentators is ridiculous and I have since I was eight years old.
WWF's commentary in the late 80s is one of the things that convinced me I was too old for wrestling and it was time to give it up. Vince MacMahon's saccarine sweet babyface announcer made me sick.
My favorite commentator ever was Heenan in WCW. He poked fun at the faces and espoused the 'win at any cost' mentality but he didn't support the nWo or all heels and trash every babyface. He gave credit to Hennig when Hennig wrestled well and credit to DDP when he did.
I think it was because he focused on making the produce more entertaining rather then focusing on informing the fans who they should be cheering. He let the wrestlers do that.
Announcers should put over BOTH wrestlers, like Lance Storm said promos should do. I hated listening to Jesse Ventura tell me every babyface wrestler was pathetic until the moment they turned heel, then they were an amazing talent before they even *did* anything as a heel.

I like Tenay and West althought maybe putting someone like Nash (who is still good on the mike) in with Tenay would help the product. I also think that people are so used to hearing JR that anyone else just isn't as good right now. However, since WWE's product absolutelys sucks right now, it is hard to listen to JR and the King because they have to shill a bad product. I would keep West on TNA Today because I like it when he goes all out for his deal of the day. And maybe one day when TNA becomes a bigger promotion, we will get to hear the dream team of Don West and Will Ferrell as Don West doing the deal of the day. That would be classic.

But leaving that aside, calling Went and Tenay the best in the business just seems absurd to me when there are clearly so many out there that outperform them on so many levels (even leaving Prazak out). I know, but all your opinions seem absurd to me. You're me from the evil, mirror universe, remember? Hmm ... Starrcade '97: "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan vs. Sting. CrapCade '07: Hollywood vs. The Stinger? BOOK IT!

eh, hes not bad, its west who's the spawn of Satan all those great talkers doing nothing, and WEST is in the damn booth? Please, if anything Tenay brings West down. I personally think he handled the rest of the show quite fine with Tenay's absence. West deserves more time as the play-by-play announcer and not just as Tenay's Ed McMahon.

In all seriousness, UltraMantis Black may be the best commentator in any wrestling promotion today.

How old are you gramps?

jeez too old for wrestling in the eighties? How old are you gramps? I turned twenty-nine last week. Part of it is that I was getting older, and WWF was getting kiddified. Hogan and prayers, the training and vitamins were one thing -- less than a year I quit there was Doink and Repo Man and Zanta Claus. About two years later Vince got on his famous "Wrestlecrap" riff of every wrestler having some profession (garbage man, plumber, hockey player, race car driver). The last 'new' wrestler I saw debut in MacMahon-land that got over was the Undertaker. And I've never looked back.

So i guess you gave up wrestling as a whole? I've given up wrestling twice in my life. After WWF became unwatchable I didn't watch wrestling from 1990 to 1997 when I became a fan again due to the nWo angle. Then after ECW and WCW ceased to exist I didn't watch wrestling for the next five years until a show called TNA impact debuted on Spike TV. After a few months I learned that my favorites like Austin Aries, Alex Shelley and Samoa Joe got their start in something called 'ROH' and the rest is history. So everytime wrestling loses it's appeal to me, I just quit. I come back in a few years to find new companies and new favorite wrestlers.

I wanted to bump this because besides all the other usual complaints about Mike Tenay, I've noticed that all of his commentary sounds like he's reading off a script (and based on the infamous "camera blooper", he is). But still, can he at least pretend that he's commenting off-the-cuff and be surprised instead of knowing what's happening ahead of time? There are even points where he'll call a move before the guy even hits it. And because it made me laugh, I need to do this: I hate Tenay and love West. Why? I don't know. He's just lovable. This is EXACTLY how I feel. Don West reminds me of Uncle Ted from Bobby's World. Just a goofy bastard that tries. IT'S TIME FOR NOOGIES, MIKE TENAY!! RIGHT IN THE FAAAAACE!!!

The last 'new' wrestler I saw debut in MacMahon-land that got over was the Undertaker. And I've never looked back. That's too bad, because you've missed some incredible matches with him over the years. But I really don't blame you - mid-90's wrestling was pathetic.
