“WSX will join Freaks & Geeks, Undeclared, Firefly and other TV greats in the pantheon of shows Americans were too stupid to ‘get’.” – Derek Burgan of F4Wonline.com
In January of 2007, the pro wrestling industry was shaken to its core when MTV launched “Wrestling Society X.” Rumors ran rampant throughout the industry about the front offices of other wrestling promotions fearing what would happen if this hip new take on their business filled with younger, more entertaining, more spectacular wrestlers and matches caught on. Luckily for them, like all great revolutions, it was misunderstood by many, including the very network that stood to benefit most from it’s success.
But, for 9 glorious episodes (and one absolutely unbelievably %$@#* crazy season finale that never aired) WSX change the way people thought wrestling HAD to be presented. Those who “got it,” loved it! Those who didn’t still could not believe the quality of the matches compared to what was being offered by the established wrestling companies.
WSX offered the best in high flying, no limits, aerial assaults with a new generation of wrestling stars including “The Aerial Emperor” Jack Evans, “The Cocky Coverboy” Matt Sydal with his main squeeze Lizzy Valentine, and “The P-I-M-P of W-S-X” the Human Tornado. WSX offered the best tag team division in the world including The Filth & The Fury, Los Pochos Guapos, D.I.F.H., Luke Hawx & Alkatrazz, K.I.G., and The Cartel. And, WSX offered the most brutal bouts over the WSX Championship imaginable as Vampiro, Sean “6-Pac” Waltman, and Ricky Banderas sacrificed flesh and blood and limbs battling throughout the WSX Bunker and with light tubes, barbed wire, and exploding coffins, to prove who was worthy of being champion!
Plus, each episode features a special guest band joining hosts Kris Kloss and Bret Ernst at the broadcast table including Three-6 Mafia, New Found Glory, Good Charlotte, Pitbull, Zakk Wylde, Clipse, Jibbs, Styles P, Sparta, and Quietdrive!
This COLLECTOR’S EDITION DVD set features over 10 HOURS of WSX action on 4 DISKS packed with ALL 9 EPISODES WHICH AIRED ON MTV, the NEVER BEFORE AIRED SEASON FINALE featuring a PIRANHA DEATHMATCH and an EXPLODING STEEL CAGE TIMEBOMB DEATHMATCH, 10 WSXtra Bonus Shows, Deleted/Unaired Scenes, Alternate Commentary featuring the cast and crew, all 15 WSX Virtual Trading Cards, casting tapes/matches of stars before they were in WSX, music videos, Lizzy Valentine and Lacey bikini videos, Featurettes including “The Transformation of Fabian Kaelin: World’s Most Hated Announcer,” photo galleries, script galleries (YES SCRIPTS), and MORE!!!!! This is your ALL ACCESS pass inside the meteoric rise and fall of an international wrestling phenomenon. There has never been a DVD release like it before and most likely will never be again. . .Oh yes, Wrestling Society X: The Complete First (and Last) Season is coming to a store near YOU on November 13th. It was wacky, ridiculous, and just plain fun. I heard an interview with Kevin Kleinrock on F4W and I have high hopes. One of the things that interests me the most is the fact that it has a "Marathon Mode". This is basically on each DVD has the episodes and WSXtra in chronological order. I am completely stoked and like the CHIKARA lovers, I will shamelessly whore this product in a thread! So please, buy this DVD. If not for me.... then buy it to help Matt Classic live in the 21st Century.

I like the fact that it's treated like a legit TV series DVD. Scripts, casting tapes, and such.

That is the most gloriously entertaining BSPR(Bullshit public relations) press release I've ever read. I doubt "the front offices" of WWE and TNA ever thought about WSX longer than "Wow, we've got nothing to worry about".

I nearly forgot about WSX. And yes, Firefly and Freaks and Geeks were way too go for the average person. Along with Arrested Development.
EDIT: One way or another I will get this due to Jimmy Jacobs. HUSS HUSS HUSS HUSS HUSS HUSS!

You know back when WSX was on TV, I didnt really watch it. But in retrospect, I commend them for at least trying something different. Wrestling in general has gotten so stale nowadays, and it is going to take some outside-the-box thinking to bring wrestling back again. I don't know that piranhas and cameramen with ADD is the way to do it, but I commend them for at least trying something new.

I remember a story about guys from TNA calling WSX for spots cause they were unhappy and people making a big deal out of it, thinking there was gonna be a mass exodus from the company to the next big thing, and TNA was gonna be in the middle of a crisis. Then WSX got cancelled. The, a few months later, I remembered it and laughed. And I like WSX, BTW.

Did the guy who ran the promotion write that press release? Sheesh. Anything that includes "Shaken to the core" is BS. I never watched it, just think the press release is overboard. Guess it needed to be

This is where you're wrong! MTV would've censored it and there'd be weird ass pixels over the explosion.

yeah the WSX champ had like mystical powers and such. Then a nonmystical ladder and table took him out. Also, comparing WSX to Firefly is like comparing Blair Witch II: Book of Shadows, to Friday the 13th Part II.

I guess I must have been too stupid to get it. I suppose it can be one of those "It's so bad that it's good" kind of things, but I don't know.

I think had WSX been on a different network than MTV....it'd still be around today. MTV has become the network for 13 year old girls, and not too many 13 year old girls want to watch crazy wrestling.
