Okay I finally got what I had a problem with Joe.
He's fat, but he's not fat enough and he doesn't have enough muscle bulk to really stand out as a beast like VAder.
I mean even Hashimoto for as fat as he was, he was still pretty bulky and had a sumo wrestler body.
I mean Joe has to either get as big as Bam Bam Bigeloe...who's size didn't hamper his physical abilities. And build more muscle to wrestle a more physical style.
i don't mean become a roid head. I mean crap look at Vader, Quake, Bam Bam Bigelow, Rikishi...though they might not have looked it they were very quick.
I mean they also had the imposing size and look, but they had athleticism to go with it.
Joe's too fat to be looked at as a regular type of main event guy, but not fat enough to really be considered a monster or a beast.
I know Dusty Rhodes or Abdullah will be brought up, but they were fat enough to also be jolly...didn't see people body slam Dusty Rhodes...

i think thats one of the things that makes joe unique. he's a big guy, but he's not too big to do a tope or things like that. if he got as big as bigelow or quake then he'd just be another fat guy. right now, he's got a unique shape. it's more intemidating because he's huge but he can also come off the top and smurf you up

I just think, as much as I love Samoa Joe, he goes to quick some times and barely makes his moves look painful, in fact, sometimes he barely "hits" them.
I have no problem with his body size.

The problem is that Joe is a lot shorter than the guys you're comparing him to. However, he's also really agile and can give off a badass vibe very well, so I'm not sure if that's really a problem as long as he's booked as a badass.

I like Joe because he's the big man's quick, smaller man, and the quick smaller man's big man.

Maybe you don't, but Joe seems to be doing just fine in TNA and in ROH. I know you don't like him, but the guy is way over and doesn't have to have a six pack or anything.

I don't know if I buy Joe as fat but what's he gonna do? He's Samoan. Yes, I did crib that from Pulp Fiction...
While I think he has gotten bigger (just look back to when he debuted against Low Ki in ROH), I think he may be better served working on his cardio/endurance.
It is obvious he works an intense style but there are some matches he's been in where you can tell he's completely out of breath not that far into the contest.
I like Joe. I've seen him live. He doesn't need to bulk up anymore.

Queue the theory of relativity speech. Abyss was a believable monster in TNA for a significant amount of time because there were so many X-Division guys and <250lb guys who made him seem big, even when we knew he wasn't a real "monster." He never had to deal with Hernandez, for example, who would have put a damper on the monster thing. Put him in WWE in a match with Mark Henry, BDV, Kane and Khali, and he looks like Mick Foley but taller.
Christian Cage can main event in TNA at 6'1" 235lbs because so many of the main guys are, like AJ and Daniels and Jarrett, also that same size. The Tomkos and Abysses are the exception. In WWE, on the other hand, he was on the small side and had been a comedy gimmick for so long that he didn't have the chance to be like Jericho or the Hart brothers.
So where does this leave Samoa Joe? He's the same height as the X-Division guys. He's the same weight as Steiner or Tomko or Hernandez, but without the freak physique. Joe was able to squash the X-Division for so long because of his size. But his rise to the heavyweight division coincided roughly with the arrival of Kurt Angle. You've also now got Sting and Booker, who have some size and build.
So it isn't that easy to be a monster in TNA anymore. Hell, two of the biggest guys (Outsiders) are not in-ring talent, per se.
Joe cannot be compared to anyone in terms of the theory of relativity in a positive way. He's too big to be in the X-Division. He's too fat to be believable against Angle or Booker or whoever. Whatever the unfair comparison. If you had other non-traditional talents booked opposite him, then he'd be fine. For example, if they'd used Homicide as an X-talent or actually put Senshi over Joe rather than having him drop the X-belt in a 3-way...then the character would be more interesting.
By the way, Angle is the god of wrestling and TNA. Christian has his coalition, of which AJ is the goofy hillbilly hick. Storm is an alcoholic who for some reason is allowed to compete. EY is a paranoiac. Abyss is a comic book character who can't participate in believable feuds so his are pulled from the mid90s WWF. VKM are bitter misogynists. Daniels has auditory hallucinations. The MCMGs want respect and gold. Lethal's gimmick is that he has to work a gimmick to get over.
what the heck is Joe's gimmick? It's like he's just Samoa Joe, professional wrestler. Fat Samoan who kicks ass every which way possible. It's like he's the straight man to all the other guys' gimmicks and storylines. I'm not saying he is poorly booked or not. I'm just saying that, since I don't get to see TNA often, I know all this about other characters but little about Joe. Maybe that's the issue. It's like they are trying to see how far Just Joe can go.
And I commend them for that.

I've HONESTLY never seen that much in it. It's probably my fault for not looking hard enough, but from what i have seen of him, its been good, but more a "that's it?" kind've feel.
I don't really see him as intimidating at all, and it sucks.. Because i want too.
