Is Bret Hart's book worth buying?
The Hitman will be coming to my town to do a book signing, but I was wondering if the book is worth purchasing in the first place. I'm a huge fan of Bret's work as a wrestler, and have enjoyed both of Foley's autobiographical works, if that tells you anything about my tastes. I'm not interested in autobiographies that are written in kayfabe, like the Rock's - although given how synonymous Bret Hart the person and Bret Hart the performer can be, I guess some kayfabe is to be expected.

So no one's picked up Hart's book, or has gotten far enough into it to make a recommendation?

I bought the other day, and personally I think it's fantastic. As good as, if not better than Have A Nice Day. Its not as funny as the Foley books, but the honesty and in debth accounts of various moments of his career are great. It's also nice knowing that the book was written without any axes to grind, and without any asses to kiss looking for a job. I can't recommend this book enough

I bought the book and am glad I did. It was a very interesting, intriguing read. There were times when I had to force myself to put it down so I could go to work or bed.

Thanks for the responses, guys.
I remember reading a thread in which someone said he was expecting to meet the Hitman at a book signing, and was planning to ask Bret about his El Dandy promo.
I have a simple, 'a-one-sentence-answer-will-suffice' question I'd like to ask Bret. I'm not going to mention it now, as I don't want someone to steal my question and 'beat me to the punch.'
Perhaps we should start a list of questions that we, the Wrestlecrappers, have asked the Hitman throughout his book signing. It would be useful since it would reduce the risk the Bret gets asked the same question by more than one Crapper, and so that we can get a wider range of answers.

Just thought of something: Maybe I should go to the book signing wearing a Shawn Michaels-type outfit circa 1995 - You know, just to see what kind of a reaction I'd get from all of The Hitman's loyal fans.
(I side with Bret when it comes to the Montreal Screwjob, by the way)

I strongly suggest buying it. Like a previous poster I couldn't put it down and I'm still reading. Some moments in the book are truly touching and gave this reader a lump in his throat at times. It's easily the best book I've read and is better written and paced than Foley's books which are also well written IMO. Forget the stupid Shawn crap though buddy if you go to get it signed and just thank him for even bothering to turn up to your town. I'm in Scotland and paid about $50 to get this book imported over and would jump at the chance to see my hero and get him to sign my copy.
Also a npte to other posters in this thread, namely whiteyfats. If you have an opinion on the book then share it but guys lets stop bringing up the screwjob or your opinion on it in EVERY thread. It's beyond old...

It's the best book-written-by-a-wrestler I've ever read. Beats "Have a Nice Day" even. Bret's got a great sense of humor, and other parts actually made me tear up (death of Owen and Stu).

Couldn't happen to a nicer guy Let's say you and me are both wrestlers. Then lets say you're the champ. Then let's say the boss says you're going to lose to me at the next PPV. And you do. Then lets fast forward a year. Lets say you've got the belt back, and the boss says you're going to lose it to me again. Let's say I tell you "Even though you're going to drop it to me AGAIN, I wouldn't do the same for you" and then I storm out of the room like an asshole. Would you job the belt to me with a smile on your face?

I side with bret in the screwjob too. but I've also heard a ton of people say the whole thing was a work. who knows really? Give me a break! The hatred between Vince and Bret got so bad that after Bret's little brother died -- for real -- Vince said publically that Bret didn't even care about Owen, and cared only about Montreal. That is legitamate hatred, people. Nobody says a thing like that about someone to protect a 'work' or wrestling storyline. In fact, I often suspect that's the whole reason Vince made the "Mr. MacMahon" character and constantly repeats the events of Montreal with popular wrestlers -- He does it so people will think, "Maybe Montreal wasn't real" and think "Maybe Vince isn't so bad in real life if it's all fake!" He blurs the line between fantasy and reality to conceal what his business practices really are. I can tell you, if my brother died, and my former employer publically stated that I didn't care about him, just to weaken a potential lawsuit I'd be enraged.

Why do people get off on attacking Bret? Is he bitter? Yeah I would imagine. Was he wrong for not wanting to putting Shawn over? Business wise yes but who would have wanted to put Shawn over given what had gone down between them? The old HBK wouldn't have even shown up if the positions had been reversed. If you don't like Bret fine but who's to tell him not to being angry over Montreal considering Montreal more or less ended his career.

Bret Hart was not wrong in the situation, he had creative control for the last 30 days and chose to exercise that. He said he would put over anyone the week before except Shawn Michaels, seeing as Michaels told him to his face he wouldn't do the job back for him.
