To rebate over the guys about Mario Galaxy
I do understand that it's not too challenging, but that's not why it's good to me.
For me, Galaxy is GOTY because it's seperate from any other game in the market. Every major game people nominated was a shoot-em-up. Halo 3, Bioshock, The Orange Box, COD4, all major shoot-em-ups.
Mario Galaxy is a great game not because of the challenge, but because I had fun playing it. I loved going through every level, I loved shooting up from one planet to another, I loved facing the bosses and I loved the reward you got from getting Grand Stars and unlocking Observatories. I don't get that buzz with just shooting people and seeing their blood on the floor or my screen turn red as I got hit. I don't get a buzz from getting a Rocket Launcher and blowing aliens with it (except on Halo 3's multiplayer, which is the best I've played this year IMO.).
To me, it was great because it gave me a different experience. I was using the numbchuck to move Mario around and the Wiimote to grab starbits and it felt great. I didn't have my hands constantly pressing buttons on the controller, I was moving around, shaking the remote, pushing Mario around on a mantiray. All of it was different and all of it I loved.
In a generation full of games with Hard, Expert and Legendary modes full of complex storylines with many twists, it's great for me to just pick up a game, know what happens and just go. Mario goes to Space to save Peach from Bowser. It's all there in one sentence. It's the same with movies. Sometimes a great movie is simple to understand.
It's not about the length. It's about the experience. Super Mario Galaxy gave me the experience. And that's why I think it's Game of the Year.

Super Mario Galaxy ;D
I haven't had this much fun playing a game since Super Mario 64 or SMB 3. This is a great game from start to finish and easily the best I've played all year.

Galaxy starts easy, but just try getting 120 stars. those purple coin stars are torture. The game is made for various difficulties. Getting 60 stars is meant to be easy, Nintendo wants any one to be able to beat there game, which is really smart, however for the hardcore, they have 60 other stars, not all of which are easy.
The game just has so much the others don't, as one said it isn't a shooter, like so many of the other good games this year, which really makes it stand out.
The graphics are a work of art The music is phenomenal The control is perfect The gravitational effects are revolutionary(the fact it offers something other games really haven't that is the most important thing)
The over all package is just sensational.

I think maybe I'm just not getting into this generation of games. I've become somewhat of a video game smark now. Definately don't care for the motion sensor aspect of the Wii either. I still like Galaxy, but Mario 64 still remains the best Mario title, to me.

Toss up between Bioshock and Mario Galaxy. Both are amazing games.

Wish I could change my vote... Ratchet & Clank Future Tools of Destruction is the best game i've played in all of 2007, by far. I seriously think if more people who liked Mario Galaxy had PS3s tried this game out, they'd be in love with it. The game is hilarious, cute, and fun, it has such a deep system of weapons, yet doesn't do an over-the-top fighting system most kids wouldn't understand. The interaction between Ratchet and Clank are as good as Sam and Max, and god the graphics. Some will say Bioshock, but I say Ratchet and Clank's unique look is the most amazing graphics experience of 2007, the first level has so much organized chaos going on at once in the massively colorful city.

I have it and love it, and its graphics are only surpassed by Uncahrted(and artistically, Mario Galaxy), though the water looks awful. However as a fan of the series since day one, the game felt lacking compared to Going Commando and Up Your Arsenal, in fact it felt bare bones and stripped back. The weapons weren't as clever either. Plus it shipped with a huge bug that kept many people from even being able to play it. Luckily that is fixed, and has an easy non patch fix. Anyway, it is a good game, but it doesn't live up to the others in the series. It is damned gorgeous though.

Portal was the most fun I had with a video game in years, sure it was short, but it's better than playing a long game that sucks.

I really need to get Orange Box, if not just for Portal and TF2, but my brother really wants to play COD4 with me.

Fire Pro Wrestling Returns. 327 wrestlers, 500 CAW slots, phenomenal gameplay system and AI, for $20.00, this game (In my opinion) is as great a purchase as the Orange Box, possibly even better! I've been sooooooo curious about this one. I've never played a Fire Pro game and typically think of No Mercy as the best wrestling game so far, though I've dug some of the customizable and graphic aspects of later games. I think the graphics and unknown gameplay are what have held me back on this one. Anyone have a more elaborate/detailed approach as to why I should/shouldn't get it?

You should get it because it's the second best wrestling game of all time. KoC2 is the best, but FPR is more accessible and more sandbox. It's got the second best engine, and it FARR surpasses No Mercy, No Mercy is overrated because it's the only good wrestling game we've had in years.

Most games expand your knowledge, buy Fire Pro and I bet you'll start getting into puro.
