The Wall Street Journal has posted an article that reveals that the Superman franchise is confirmed to be rebooting with the news of Warner Brothers' new film strategy, which will include the release of another Batman film, a restart to the Superman franchise, and two new DC character films.
Warner Bros. also put on hold plans for another movie starring multiple superheroes -- known as "Batman vs. Superman" -- after the $215 million "Superman Returns," which had disappointing box-office returns, didn't please executives. "'Superman' didn't quite work as a film in the way that we wanted it to," says Warner Bros. Pictures Group President Jeff Robinov. "It didn't position the character the way he needed to be positioned." "Had 'Superman' worked in 2006, we would have had a movie for Christmas of this year or 2009," he adds. "But now the plan is just to reintroduce Superman without regard to a Batman and Superman movie at all."

Personally, I'm a little disappointed. I liked Brandon Routh, and I have a feeling they'll want someone different in order to disassociate with SR. Plus, I was interested in seeing where the series could've gone.
Ah well. I'm just happy there'll be another film. Someday.

Hooray!
I personally really hated Superman Returns and how they held on to the camp aspects of the 80s for no apparent reason as well as introduced an absurd subplot in the form of the superbrat. The only thing I liked was the opening concept about Superman being away for awhile on some space mission and then coming back. However that concept they even managed to make underwhelming by their execution.

All I have to say is thank goodness. Now we can get a real man of steel movie. Get rid of Singer and bring in someone who isnt afraid for their Superman to stand for truth, justice and the American way. As much as it hurts me to say I think Micheal Bay could do a good job. As for the writer? Paul Dini needs a crack at a script for a comicbook movie.

They can do whatever they want, as long as they don't add a giant spider to the franchise.(I wonder how many people will actually get that)

Boo....I'd rather see a real ending to the Superman film series from 1978-2006...with a new director

I liked Superman Returns. It had its flaws, but I still enjoyed it. Personally, I think if they're intending on making Superman a "badass," they're making a mistake. The one thing that sets Superman apart from every other superhero out there is that he's NOT a badass and doesn't want to be. Despite that he's easily the biggest badass on the planet, he takes great pains to just be a normal person looking for love and happiness. I've heard executives say they want to "invoke the image of an angry god," which isn't very encouraging for me, either. Sure it's an interesting concept, but it's not Superman. They can do whatever they want, as long as they don't add a giant spider to the franchise.(I wonder how many people will actually get that) Kevin Smith applauds you, sir.

Somehow they'll mess it up, and somehow It'll be another story involving a Lex Luthor land grab scheme. Maybe this time he'll try to make a moon base out of Kryptonite, that'll be a change.

Still, back on topic, I'll enjoy any Superman movie they release, provided it's not some hackjob from the likes of Michael Bay (I can't express enough my hatred for this man) involving giant spiders or a battle with Doomsday in a subway station or aerial kung fu with Lex Luthor on the planet Krypton.

On retrospect Superman Returns probably could have used a scene where Superman fights a giant robot spider, or fights anything actually.

Please, please, please let the villain be someone not named Lex Luthor.
Also we don't need an origin story as everyone knows who Superman is.

Wow, I sure do look forward to seeing the Orgin story, again. And meeting Lex Luthor, again. Oh, and wondering what the hell Clark sees in Lois* when Lana is ready, willing and able, again. And seeing green glowing rock, again.
* Seriously, what's up with that?

Please, please, please let the villain be someone not named Lex Luthor. Also we don't need an origin story as everyone knows who Superman is. That's my biggest gripe with a reboot. Superman's first nemesis has always been Lex Luthor. (Technically, it was the Ultra-Humanite if you're a REALLY big dork, like me, but most don't know or care about him.) And a reboot almost demands that Lex be the primary enemy before you star introducing new, more powerful villains like Bizarro or Brainiac or even Doomsday. I dunno. I just think this was a mistake on WB's part. All the sets from SR are still ready to use. They could save a ton of money making a sequel utilizing all of those sets, lower the cost of production, and actually make quite a bit of money. SR's problem wasn't that it didn't make money (it made a ton), it was that they spent too damn much making it.

Maybe we'll be lucky and they'll do the origin with Brainiac?
