Maybe we'll be lucky and they'll do the origin with Brainiac? It'd be interesting, but Lex NEEDS to be in the movie as at least a strong supporting role, even if he isn't actively a villain. Play up the regular businessman angle for the first movie, building to a more outwardly evil character in the next. Superman and Lex are connected even more the Batman and the Joker, and in many ways have a much more complex relationship. As suck of people seeing Lex in movies may be, he's arguably tied as the most vital supporting character in the superman mythos. Hell, Metropolis is HIS city!

If they were to do that I'd rather they save the evil turn for a third movie, have Darkseid show up and have Le slyly conspire with him and go full evil in the third Supes film or in the JLA movie.

I'm not sure what movies to throw who in where...
But I'd be interested in seeing Lex operate behind the scenes as the puppet master of sorts for all of the super-powered villains Superman confronts--like Metallo, Parasite, or Bizarro. Where the front men take the falls, and Lex keeps getting away scott free until the finale.

Even thats fine, I just think too many people want to brush him off from being a major player, but his continued roll in the DCU proves he's somebody that should have his finger in a lot of the stuff thats going to happen in Metropolis, despite not constantly trying to kill Superman. The Lex from the late 80's/to mid to late 90's would be an excellent model, as it was on the Superman Animated series.

They can do whatever they want, as long as they don't add a giant spider to the franchise.(I wonder how many people will actually get that) Yeah, but Superman has to have bodyguards. And get him out of that suit. It's too pink and fruity. And he doesn't need to fly either.

MY basic idea of how it should be done is that at the end of the movie with Darksied is that Lex gets ahold of the Anti Life Equation, kill Darksied with it, take control of Superman then have the lesser hero's who make up the JLA be the ones to stop him.

It's a shame WB is viewing Superman Returns the same way Marvel viewed the Hulk movie in 2003.
Both movies had both its good and bad. And its too early for an Superman Reboot. I guess WB wants Superman to be as dark as "Batman". It does that and the Superman movie will fail.

Maybe this time the Jesus guy can play his rightful role of Superman.

I would be quite happy without Lex in any shape at all. We have seen him before in all the Superman films (Even the one where Zod was the villain!) and tv shows. Enough is enough, move on ... I mean c'mon even James Bond moved on from Blofeld and Spectre.
I'd like to see the Ultra-Humanite or Doomsday.

They're looking to pull a "Hulk" here. Venom aside, I hope they come up with something decent. The last effort was killed by the atrocious story, a lack of giving the actors (good actors) something to do, and trying to incoporate stuff from the original Superman into the movie.
I hate "re-booted" movies, but in this case, I say go for it.

Maybe this time the Jesus guy can play his rightful role of Superman. If Carlito's ex-bodyguard is going to be in the title role, then logically Cena should be Metallo.

I seriously don't see how some of the stuff that went in Superman Returns got greenlighted.
First off, you're dealing with a dormant franchise that suddenly gets resurected after a lot of misfires and you decide to do a loose sequel on the 2nd film in the series three decades later? On top of that, you hamfist a child into the equation, miscast nearly every part and hire Bryan Singer to do another analogy for one of the early trials and tribulations of his youth through his film....about Superman (at least we didn't have to see Clark "come out" to Martha with his newfound powers....)?
Seriously, I don't know if it was the fact next to nothing happened in the movie, Superman became a mute underwear model or any of the other disasters that bestowed my eyes, but reboot may be another word for "Burried under 30 feet of concrete" and I still would think they haven't done enough to move forward from that mistake. Excuse the excitement and hyperbole, but that movie is not in good standings with me.
That said, the whole move to "being dark" could work, but I hope its not in the way Batman is in so much as a dark and brooding character who walks a fine line. Explore some of the inner conflicts of being nearly invincible, having all the power in the world, but still deciding to suffer immensely to protect those that don't always accept you. I know the whole "boyscout" angle just doesn't fly with audiences anymore, especially in a world with many shades of gray and no more black and white, so maybe some ambiguity in the character and his actions may work (as long as its not played out in the form of sulking/brooding/spying on your one night stand).

I'm disappointed that the WB is going to do the reboot. For one I liked Superman Returns, and secondly Donner did the perfect origin story. They won't be able to top Donner's origin story of Supes.
You've got to have Lex Luthor. As was said before Metropolis is his city, plus this is a guy that was elected President of the United States.
And please for casting give Tom Welling and Michael Rosenbaum shots to play their roles on the big screen. They've done a good job with the shit writing they've gotten at times on Smallville, so they should be able to do a good job with good writing. Also Rachel McAdams as Lois Lane.

Please don't go the dark well, Supes isn't dark and thats what makes him great. I've had enough of everything having to get darker, just once I'd love a sequel to come out that's billed as being lighter.

I think the studios have cried wolf a little too quickly with this one. I think they should have just moved on with the franchise. Now we've got to sit through yet another origins story. Look... I know it worked for Batman, but Batman is far more complex than Superman. You want an origins story? Smurfing tell it over top the open credits, everyone already knows the backstory.
As for Lex. He's possibly one of my favorite villains of all time. But even I'm tired of seeing Superman fight Lex Luthor. We've seen that. Like 17 times before. Give us something new. Anything. I don't care what. Maybe Superman has to travel back in time to stop Old Biff from giving Young Biff a Grays Sports Almanac. It doesn't matter what he does. So long as it feels different from the same old some old the character has been given.
I liked Superman Returns but it still felt like a forced origins story to me. I'm tired of hearing where Superman came from and why he's here. They should just give the franchise to Kevin Smith... at least something interesting would happen with it.

Brandon Routh was decent, they just never gave him shit to do. He was all like this: for over TWO hours. I knew he was an okay fit for the role when he delivered that "flying is the safest way to travel" line at the beginning, but he didn't do shit after the plane scene except stare at Lois and Cyclops.
