Mickey Rourke likes to say the f-word.
That is so badass.

I think strongly think the only actor that could've pulled off the level of commitment that Rourke put in, and still come off as a believable down on his luck, past his prime 80s wrestler in the 2000s is Daniel Day Lewis, and the reason I say this is cause we've seen Lewis play plenty aging down on their luck guys, and knowing how Lewis gets into character, he probably would've became one hell of a ring worker. i agree with this. daniel day lewis is pretty much amazing.

Jan 16th, but I have a bad feeling it'll be playing at Fox Tower, which is a bitch and half to get to. For this film I'll make the effort.

Everything that I've read about the work the Rourke put into this role has made me think he is the only person suited to have played this role.
One of the things that helps Rourke out is that he HAS been where his character has been. Once a superstar, then lost everything. Plus Rourke is one hell of an actor. And he was a boxer. He was perfect for this role.

I really hope that Rourke gets a ton of praise for this. He really is a great actor, and there are plenty of roles that a guy like he could play.

Interesting thing to note is, any of those films can win the Oscar for Best Picture. I mean that is pretty much a list of options for nominees alone.

I watched the review of it from "At The Movies" and they're claiming it's the best movie to come out this year....and that Rourke and Tomai *sp?* deserve Oscars.....

Rourke bladed!
Mickey Rourke spilled blood in his latest movie role as a wrestler - by deliberately cutting himself with a blade during a fight scene.
The Angel Heart star taped a razor blade to his wrist and sliced his face as the cameras rolled, to make his part in upcoming film The Wrestler more realistic.
His co-star Wass Stevens tells the New York Daily News that Rourke took the drastic action after hearing how real-life fighters sometimes faked injury - to the delight of fans watching.
Wass says, "So Mickey taped a blade to his forearm, and when the time was right, sliced his forehead."

He should totally get an Oscar now.

I thought I post the trailer, for those who want to watch again or haven't seen it. This looks like a damn good movie. It's refreshing to see a movie that doesn't seem to be mocking the wrestling business. Agreed. Perhaps we should return the favor by not wearing any John Cena t-shirts and bringing up any homemade signs to hold up to the projectioner.

I just saw a screening of it at The Landmark Sunshine in NYC. Awesome film, the best part was seeing myself, brother, Dad and best friend in the audience of the final scene when Randy the Ram is cutting a promo.
Just a terrific movie all around, it was emotional, had action, had heart and was just a fun ride from start to finish. Plus Marissa Tomei is naked in it quite a bit and damn she looks good.
Mickey Rourke is so believable in the movie and I think everyone on this board will enjoy it.
Plus, Bobby Dempsey is in it sitting on a couch and I marked hard for that.

Dude, I'm not even sure Daniel Day Lewis would go that far for realism! *remembers how DDL prepared for movies like There Will Be Blood and Gangs of New York, doing such things as refusing medicine when he caught pneumonia on the set of Gangs of New York because there was no medicine for that in the 1860s* Never mind, he would so totally do that. However, still Rourke is badass for doing that.

Some show on E! is covering it tomorrow. This is the only movie all year that I have wanted to actually wanted to go and watch so bad. Now I find out that my area might not be getting it? For shame Fox Searchlight, for shame.
