I'm actually a little surprised by how many people choose Demolition over LOD sometimes. Not that I mind because I really liked both teams even if one was used as a model for the other.
I actually watched Demolition first in the early to mid 90s when I rented old WWF videos from Blockbuster and saw LOD later when they went back to WWF in late 96 or early 97.
I think overall LOD was the better but you have to give a lot of credit to Demolition for getting over and pulling off the gimmick almost just as well.

Demolition by a mile.
LOD had the look, the steroid physique. The Hawk promo about "The Natural Disasters like to throw their weight around. Well, we like to throw their weight around, too!" Tanned, greased up, awesome finisher.
But Demolition...man...they looked like they would beat the hell out of you just for kicks. Hell, they beat the shit out of each other at the Rumble in 1990. I loved everything about Demolition, even when they were heels, because of Mr. Fuji. I think part of it was that Demolition brawled like professional wrestlers. They had great psychology, could make Colossal Connection or the Rockers look great. Did more for me as wrestlers.

Both teams are totally awesome, but I gotta go with the Road Warriors.
I actually got to high five Animal during a superstars taping or a house show. It was when LOD had a match with the Beverly Brothers and the Genius. Now at that time I was a stupid 8 year old mark that loved LOD and hated the Beverly Sisters.... Long story short (Too late) I went crazy mark out mode on Lanny Poffo and hit him with my Animal doll. My family was about to get kicked out when Animal came over and put his hand up.

I remember renting that Royal Rumble where they started it all out. That was awesome. They brawled like hell. I forgot all about that. I'm gonna have to watch that again.

Demoliton all the way. I think overall LOD was the better but you have to give a lot of credit to Demolition for getting over and pulling off the gimmick almost just as well. "Almost as well"? Have you watched Wrestlemania VI lately? When Demolition defeated the Colossal Connection at that event to win the WWF tag titles for the 3rd time, they got just as big of an ovation as Hogan and Warrior did! There's a reason for that, and the words "almost as well" aren't in the reason. In fact, most of the time during the Hogan/Warrior regime, Demolition had better matches than the main event wrestlers did. Demolition and the Hart Foundation easily stole the show at Summerslams 1988 and 1990. Demolition as tag champions would often be in the main event of house shows and TV tapings, sometimes with Hogan wrestling before them. As others have said, Demolition could actually wrestle. The Road Warriors just wanted to go in there and pull an Ultimate Warrior and overpower you and not actually work the match. (Hmmm, was it purely coincidental that LOD ended up teaming up with Warrior when they first arrived in the WWF?) Consequentially, Demolition had overall better, more memorable matches than the Road Warriors, no matter which team they faced. I admit I was also never a fan of any organization other than the WWF, and the Legion of Doom never did all that well in the WWF, while Demolition dominated the company. Hell, when Legion of Doom entered the WWF, they looked like the imitators since they hadn't been established there, and Demolition had. Besides, just because you are the originator of a gimmick doesn't mean that you're the best at it. But Demolition...man... they beat the excretory matter out of each other at the Rumble in 1990. That was the 1989 Rumble where Ax and Smash faced off at the beginning.

Tough choice, like choosing between a a Ferrari and a Lamborgini, but I have to go with LOD, by an inch or two. I was a HUGE fan of both teams, and even though Demolition were considered the knockoff team, they were like a modified version of LOD. LOD and Demolition are the most ImIetal wrestlers ever, besides Jerry Lynn and Chris Jericho.

Prefer LOD they are one of my faverioute teams of all time. Athough Demolion were a cool team LOD just sounds and looks better. Also the whole S And M gimmick Demoliotn had going never really done it for me. They were an out of shape dressed up in kinky gear version of LOD.

Another Sophie's Choice senario....I'd have to say the Road Warriors for their NWA stuff, but Demolition were badass too.

I like both teams, but Demolition were a ripoff of the Road Warriors, so I have to go with the Warriors. However, I would put both teams above the Powers of Pain, which were an even bigger Road Warrior ripoff than Demoltion. Plus how many World Tag Titles the the POP have now?

Demolition.
I consider the Roid Warriors the most overrated workers in history, hands down. Just a couple of big lugs with face paint, and for the guy who said Demolition didn't age as well...how cool are those Roid Warrior red plastic shoulder pads with plastic spikes looking to you now? Like a dollar store halloween costume? Thought so. Hawk was a great interview though, I will say that.
Demolition on the other hand were much better in the ring, and Bill Eadie could definitely give Hawk a run for his money on the mic.
EDIT: This thread would've also been perfect for the Gorilla Monsoon flying headscissors joke, but I just did it in the Goldberg/Warrior thread. ;D

Demolition.
I only watched the WWF at the time, so I'm biased, but LOD's WWF run was very boring, and I never really saw them in any other promotion in the 80's.
Plus, maybe it was youth, but I was always excited when Demolition faced an established team (like the Hart Foundation or Rockers or Brain Busters, or POP, etc). I never said "hey, it's LOD vs. the Orient Express...I have to watch that", but I would get excited to see Demolition.
Of course, if I saw LOD/RW in the 80's pre-WWF, I might have a different opinion.

I go Demolition. It may have been S&M gear to some, but to me, it always looked like they were executioners. They had one of the greatest theme songs EVER. And Smash was probably the best in-ring trash talker ever.

As for the Shoulder pads they had real deal metal spikes that could unscrew, they even used them as weapons in many matches. The Road Warriors were ground breaking innovators.

True, I've never seen their Japan stuff, and only a little of the NWA stuff. I kinda thought they were cool when I was a kid I guess.

Can't I like both seperately and equally?
I think Demolition put on far better matches, but I liked LOD's crushing power style more
Plus they had different looks, Demolition were some weird dominatrix guys, and LOD were Leathermen Bikers from the future.

Not much of a competition in my view, especially if you consider Road Warrior's work in Georgia, the AWA, and in the NWA. Demolition had about two and half good years in WWE, but the Road Warriors had a much longer career.

I liked The Roadwarriors/LOD better. Especially because as a kid I thought those spiked shoulder pads were badass.

Demolition, The Roadies were Powerslam, Clothesline, Shoulder Block, Doomsday Device, Pin. The Demos had more variety, and had Bill Eadie which is worth a million points.
