This is kinda hard, but with certain stars you could point to a particular match in their careers of which in retrospect, turned their career paradigm, all for the better and greater successes.
A cliche might be the first Clash of the Champions in 1988, when in direct competition with Wrestlemania IV, former tag teamer Sting worked a classic with Ric Flair to a 45 minute draw for the NWA World strap. The first of many main events to come.
Or not? You tell me.

The Hardy/Taker Ladder Match is the first that comes to my mind. Really made Jeff seem like a star and sure fire Champ.

Shelton's matches with HHH & HBK on RAW. Well, in most cases, that would've made the wrestler a star.
...How the hell could Shelton not skyrocket after those matches!? The HBK match alone should've taken him to that next level!

Taker/Jeff ladder match did wonders for Jeff's career and popularity, especially when Taker raised Jeff's hand at the end as a sign of respect. Keep in mind Taker was a heel too. |

A slightly obscure one, but the first Christian vs. Zack Ryder match. Zack opened a lot of eyes that night.
And if Kendrick hadn't been his own worst enemy, that Scramble Match could've really done wonders for him. He was the WWE Champion!*

I think the last-minute had-to-happen Rey Mysterio vs. John Morrison match from Smackdown! on September 3rd will be remembered as the match where Morrison upped his game and really cemented himself as a true star.

Mick Foley was already a pretty big star in WWE, but King of the Ring '98 with Undertaker took him to the next level leading to a few championships and top programs.

For me, I think Undertaker's feud with Yokozuna took him to a new level. I know he had become champion before that, but his battle with Yokozuna introduced the supernatural elements that made him more than a mere wrestler, but an attraction as Andre had been. |

I have to disagree with the Taker/Hardy ladder match. The whole feud was Taker beating the living shit out of Jeff every night only Jeff was too stupid to stay down. I get what they weere going for with Jeff continuing to get back up and Taker shaking his hand but ultimately it meant nothing and Jeff went right back to the midcard merry-go-round and wrestling sloppy matches until his inivetiable release.
