After the WWE almost got into trouble with the Trump buying Raw storyline, I don't see them tempting it again. They're announcing the resignation of someone high up in the company. It's not a work, because as a traded company they could get into trouble for misleading investors. This is the same company who thought it would be an awesome idea to air a terrorist angle on the day of an actual terrorist attack. That was completely UPN's fault. That segment was filmed days in advance, and the tape was already in the hands of UPN when the attacks happened. UPN could have edited it out, but instead aired it as is. They then threw the WWE under the bus for it.

My assumption would be that he's leaving to pursue some other business venture unrelated to wrestling, and is thus resigning for some combination of legal/tax reasons, a lack of time to contribute both to this and to WWE, and/or the perceived need to disassociate himself from wrestling to be taken seriously in any other sort of business.
Regardless, I wouldn't be at all surprised if he's given back a VP position within WWE within the next couple of years.

TNA? ROH? UFC? Nah. I'm waiting to see Shane on Monday Night Football. He's gonna be the guy that jumps off the lights and parachutes down into the field.
All jokes aside, this probably does have some major implications for WWE and North American pro wrestling as a whole. And yeah, it might set off the events that kill the company. So we just have to wait for 1/1/10 to come around and then I bet ya we'll have a better idea of how and why this happened...

It's always been said that Shane WOULD NOT take over the company when Vince stepped down, and that Stephanie (and with that, Triple H) would head the show. I think Linda will eventually come back once she doesn't get this Senate seat (I read somewhere she's a long shot for even party nomination).
I really WANTED Shane to take over things instead of Stephanie because he seems more level-headed than her. I'm afraid, DEATHLY AFRAID, that one day WWE will be sold one day down the road to a bunch of foregin investors. The personal interest in the product by it's owners will be nonexistant, and they will be more inclined to shut things down if we go through anything close to the early 90's.

Maybe Shane's one of the few people that understands when they've made enough money and he's going to spend time with the kids? I have an Uncle that did something similar, retired from a stupidly good job because "I made enough money for a couple lifetimes, so it's time I enjoyed the life I have left"That's what I'm maybe thinking it could be. He's seems like he'd be that kinda guy. Nevertheless, still really bizarre. Kinda shocked, honestly.

This is the same company who completely ignored the REAL death of a WWE Hall of Famer (Sheri Martel), to run a tasteless angle in which Vince McMahon died. Keeping in mind this was their main storyline that had already been running for several weeks that they'd already put all of their eggs in one basket for, with presumed intent to push Mr. Kennedy. They're not just going to drop everything and retcon their biggest storyline in years because someone, somewhere died rather unceremoniously. Now when Benoit happened, then they knew when to pull the plug. So yeah, not sure what your point is - I'd agree that they're no angels, sure; but these examples are falling a bit flat. Especially in regards to behind-the-scenes goings on that likely won't even be referenced on the actual TV product. It could be a work, but as mentioned they just did something similar with Donald Trump and didn't get the best results in regards to confused-stock-holders. This isn't on a TV show therefore they have no reason to believe it's a work this time.

Very surprising news - I could only imagine he's moving into a different industry from wrestling, maybe into MMA.

It had always been said that Shane wasn't too interested in inheriting Vince's job (which is why he was doing the website/media stuff) but I never thought he'd leave. Wow.

It really says something about the current product if Shane chooses now of all times to quit.

I was always hoping that Shane would take over someday, or at least stick around to play some key role in a Steph/HHH run WWE because by all accounts, the talent is usually pretty complimentary of Shane McMahon.
Honestly, I think some people are being to quick to dismiss this as simply 'Shane being ready to move on'. Granted, I don't see him going to TNA or starting up a massive MMA company, but I'm thinking that there has to be some rhyme or reason for his sudden resignation.

It's true, he might've just moved on to do something different for a change. I mean, he's been working with the company probably since he was legally old enough to work - if not longer. Steph herself said she worked for the WWE in many different roles before she started up the Corporate Ladder. He's getting on in age. It isn't a far-fetched thing to think he might just wanna try doing other stuff before he gets stuck with the company just because until he has to retire.

I'm surprised. Then again, he is a UFC fan and he said he wasn't really interested in taking pover WWE. Guess it could be another big loss to WWE and a huge gain to UFC. Unless it's Vince's secret plan to kill UFC like when Russo joined WCW.
