Wasn't the best movie I saw at the cinema, but it was the best movie experience. The only movie date I've been to to this day.

It gets slack because its the #1 box-office champion. It aint easy.
I would say I liked it. Amazing technical scope and grand scale that despite this age of "blockbusters," few have really pulled off on the big screen like say Titanic or LOTR or even the original Star Wars.
Funny how in James Cameron's water movie (The Abyss), the love story is more involving and moving than the one in Titanic. Abyss flopped, yet Titanic wins the Oscars.

It's a fantastic film, especially from a technical aspect. But honestly, I just don't care for it. If that makes any sense

It totally does.
I still trying to figure out how it became so ridiculously successful.

It totally does. I still trying to figure out how it became so ridiculously successful. Easy: The same way TWILIGHT is doing it. Only difference is, TITANIC appealed to a far broader audience. But the groundswell of it WAS due to the teenyboppers lining up to see *swoon*.....Leo Dicaprio.

Asides from Luhrman's Romeo + Juliet, why didn't the girls come for Leo's later movies, especially The Beach?
Its a factor, but surely there is more to explain the success than girls "growing up."
Its a cliche, but maybe it was the very basic (bland) story format why it did gangbusters world-wide. I mean girl and boy fall in love, everyone from Tehran to Toronto can relate to that. Girl falling in love with boy while matched to another man for money, hey traditional melodrama conflict! Social class conflict divide, most cultures can definately relate because what low/middle class chap don't hate those rich snobs?
Rorschach though, you might be onto half of it. Leo* and Kate Winslet were very much young people of that generation. So matched right in casting, they even parlayed that memorable match-up in Revolutionary Road, that "domesticated grown up" couple picture.
Add major SFX CGI scenes, a good laugh when that one passenger falls and hits the propellor.
*=Just imagine, Christian Bale was supposed to do that part before Leo.

I was always disappointed that this won the Oscar for best picture over L.A. Confidential (love that movie). That being said, it seems it's become cool to hate this movie. I have no problem admitting it is a great movie. It's well acted with breathtaking effects. Was it worth all the hype? I don't know but it made like a zillion dollars so somone obviously liked it.

If it had dropped the love crap, it would have been an awesome film. As it is, I quite like it, but spend most of the film wishing it would hurry the hell up.

I always have liked the movie, being a history buff, a fan of the story of Titanic and Kate Winslet is easy on the eyes too.
Probably in my personal top three of favorite movies. Yes, it can be a bit long and the script isn't always the best, but I still enjoy it. Fun to watch and share with someone you love.

I actually thought the movie was gonan be about, you know, the FREAKING boat and its' tragedy. So I went to see it (I hadn't seen the trailer or really bothered reading about it) and I was so disappointed. I was like "A crappy LOVE STORY!?! THAT'S WHAT WE GET!? SON OF A B...."
