HMark, I'm right there with ya in the 'attempt at reading the book, so as not to s*** on something I haven't even looked at thing'.. my lil sister urged me to give it a read, and since like eighty percent of the women I know currently rave about this thing, I thought, eh give it a shot. I've struggled through the first hundred pages of this, every few pages thinking and sometimes even saying out loud-- This, this is terrible! Within the first few pages where every guy in this chicks school apparently has the hots for her even though it states she's pretty ordinary I was thinking, Wha? It's went from there. I'm gonna finish it, as I said I would, but I don't look forward to it; nor the arguments I'm likely to get into when asked my opinion on it. Unrelated sidenote, two hundred pages into a book I've been workin on awhile ( fingers crossed it'll someday be available... tis my dream); and while reading this I keep thinking.. s*** I hope my stuff isn't this damned hackneyed and terrible. Stephanie Meyer is to writing as Ed Wood is to movie making. They are the measuring stick of suckitude. Who honestly hasn't watched an Ed Wood movie and got the urge to make a film just because they knew they could better? Same applies to Meyer. Read her writing, and you'll suddenly want to write something because you know it won't be as bad.

Part of my motivation in this year's NaNoWriMo is to write a vampire-related novel, mostly due to me reading Twilight a few months ago.
It's pretty much a 50k word story done in one month, and it's still going to be better than Twilight~! *shakes fist*

Heh probably true, though in fairness, I already had this story in me for quite some time before I subjected myself to this terrible book.

First film wasn't THAT bad. I'll second this. I didn't like it, but I didn't hate it. It's not my cup of tea. So, instead of getting up in arms about the sequel, I just won't see it.

I mean, sure the movies were bad, but they were bad in that "at least I'm having fun laughing at it" sort of way. Meyer, on the other hand, lacks the ability to give scaled discriptions. Everything is the most beautiful or the most spectacular, or any pain is deeper than one can fathom. By showing everything as an extreme it only cheapens the moments that should evoke such feelings. Sadly, Meyer never learned that.

Yes, Pauly Shore could be playing Robert Patterson's part.

It's not so much the films that rile me (They do suck though), it's the fanbase.

I said she achieved the impossible, since I hated the main character but found the background characters who she never gave enough depth to fascinating and wanted to know more about them. Apparently I missed the point, and someone writing four noels of Mary Sue fic is literary genius and the kind of pure poetry that I, a humbe human, could never possibly understand.

And that one of them ends up being the "soul mate" to her unborn weirdo child. Wait, what? T'is true. {Spoiler}The series goes all kindsa creepy. The thought is that the wolves all "imprint" on someone without any say-so on who it is. One of them imprints on a freakin three year old and spends all his time with the kid, determined that when the kid grows up they'll be together. Ew.
Jacob, the wolf dude taht's all in love with Bella for God knows what reason (mopey, love struck emo goth chicks FTW, I guess) finally gets rejected and, after Bella's kid thing is born, Jacob is leaving all dejected and sad-like, sees the kid and realizes he's in love. Yeah.
I guess there's no Were-Chris Hansen out there, otherwise he'd be super busy.
